That chicken story just shows how astute Frank Zappa was. He knew a wild story like that is the difference between being just another rock band and being a legend. Aside from that, I always love to listen to Alice being interviewed. He's such a great storyteller, and he's got a seemingly endless supply of wonderful stories to tell. He's like the world's greatest grandpappy. And he still rocks like a motherfucker.

I can't even tell a half-decent story at my age and Alice is lining 'em up and knockin' 'em outta' the park in his 60's.

I am 65 years old and I think I've been his biggest fan. I had his posters in my room and my mom kept saying he was ugly and I argued with her all the time. My brothers saw him in concert many times but I never could, no money, too young. I have his cds and once in a while, I have an Alice Cooper concert, just for me. Love you Alice. Thanks for the memories, me listening to your new albums over and over until I knew all the words. I just bought the Jesus Christ Superstar where you played Herod. You will be forever my idol.

Alice is a great raconteur. The first rock concert I went to was Alice Cooper (that is, the original five great guys, Michael Bruce, Glen Buxton, Alice, Dennis Dunaway, Neal Smith) in February 1972 at the Berkeley Community Theater when I was 15, courtesy of my 16-year-old brother who treated me to the show and drove us in his '56 Buick Special ("The Tank" as we dubbed it). We were at the stage edge, right in front of Alice, great view of everybody on stage, a few feet from the guillotine. Before the executioners led Alice to the guillotine and locked him in the stock, I thought, "That guillotine blade looks really sharp, and solid; and that stock doesn't look thick enough for that blade to fall into and stop and be hidden. How are they going to do this illusion?" So I was really wondering, and watching carefully. Alice was definitely walked to the stock, pushed to his knees, locked in. I didn't even blink, I was so curious how this illusion was performed. I kept my eyes on Alice. The blade dropped, Alice's head appeared to be chopped off and fall into a basket, and I nearly fainted. I never saw them make a switch, and I was watching v-e-r-y carefully. I thought, "My God, they made a mistake and they really cut his head off." I was genuinely fearful. A few minutes later, out came Alice, singing another song. To this day I don't know how they did it. Great show. It became a tradition that my brother and I always went to concerts together, often with him treating me (my hero!): we always saw Alice, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath... Good times, great experiences. I hear the original Alice Cooper group is working on a new album, and I can't wait to buy it and hear it!

I remember I was really scared (like more scared than you're supposed to be) of Alice Cooper when I was a kid because my bother was watching a documentary about him and I heard the chicken story. He also said he cut his arm off on stage or something and little me didn't realize he didn't actually cut his literal physical arm off. Now I love Alice Cooper though. I love everything that scared the shit out of me as a kid.

Greatest concert ever, he did everything, guillotine act, I was very close up front, couldn't believe it, and right after a girl came out picked his head out of the basket and put it up to the mic and it finished singing the song, awesome, so real.
