Layne is the voice of pain. Jerry's guitar is the sound of encroaching darkness. Their music will never not be relevant. Not in this world. Alice in Chains was and is the best group out of the grunge scene no matter how you define the genre. Best vocalist. Best Guitarist. Best drummer. Best songwriting. F*k the critics and those that discounted Layne for being an addict. They're the same people that admonished Cobain for his singing and playing until he acheived superstar status then lamented his passing to sell magazines. AIC's discography and longevity speaks for itself. Even after Layne, Jerry's still writing killer songs.

Staley and Cornell had the power voices of the 90's. Staley had that voice up until his unfortunate demise. The 'Love Hate Love' live video shows how much raw power.

Lane never lost his voice, just his mind. His off-shoot band Mad Season was also great!

Layne Staley never lost his voice. In the late 90s, he started losing his teeth, which caused a lisp. Laynes voice sounded just as great, if not better live than the studio albums. Alice in Chains live at the Moore Theater, MTV Unplugged, and Mad Season live are great examples of that.

No, he didn't lose his voice. If you watch Love, Hate, Love performance from the Moore Theater 1991, you will be blown away.
