On the bass it's "friends don't let friends get Friends' haircuts" Friends was a - highly popular - sitcom (d'uh!), in which all guys had clean haircuts. But the message is targeting Metallica. Because they did cut their long hair not long before this. IIRC, some Metallica members were in the audience that day. Or at least they were supposed to be. I'm sure someone else will know.

i believe it actually says “Friends don’t let friends get friends haircuts” But i could be mistaken.

​@@agustinavila9780 - this is correct, they were friends with Metallica and Metallica was in NY at the time and came to that performance. So it's a friendly jab at the guys in Metallica. A less friendly jab would be when James Hetfield mocked Layne's heroin addiction after Alice had to cancel a tour with them. Someone in the crowd threw a shoe at James as a result.
