This is a true story: When I was 18, we said goodbye to Layne, and I was really sad. I read that layne had a foundation made in his name. I wrote a small letter to them, explaining how much Layne meant to all of us, and a lot of our youth struggles with drugs, depression, etc. I wrote that I was an addict too. Since I was 15. I also sent $1. I was definitely not expecting a letter written back to me from Layne's mom. Her name is Nancy McCullum, and she runs the foundation. She sent me a poster of aic from the Moore Theater, some stickers, and in solemn disbelief, the program from Laynes celebration of life (or funeral) The program had the names Chris Cornell, Mark Lanagan from Screaming Trees, and Nancy and Ann Wilson from Heart. Chris Cornell and Heart did a cover of "Ring them Bells" written by Bob Dylan, and Mark Lanagan read a poem Layne had written. Anyway, I never thought that sending $1 to Laynes foundation would merit anything! Nancy, Laynes mom said encouraging words to me in regards to my opiate dependency. After years of on again off again substance abuse, I'm finally 150 days sober. It gets better. Thank you Nancy, Laynes mom, for the awesome keepsakes, and for giving birth and raising my favorite singer. God bless and take life one day at a time.

They were the best rock band of the 90s, and the best of grunge. Alice In Chains was cool because it had Layne Stanlley and today Jerry Cantrell can't hold it together, SoundGarden is one of those bands that with RARELY exceptions ALL the members are top level musicians, just like the Beatles or PinkFloyd, where all the members were talented and multifaceted. The bassist (Ben Shepherd) is a monster, the drummer (Matt Cameron) is a killer, the guitarist (Kim Thayil) is breathtaking in the tuning and complexity of the riffs, and Cornell sings like a God of Olympus, as well as playing very well, it's a band that has everything in terms of music, composition, chords, sonority, it's like a classical music show where the Maestro is rock n roll.

100% agree. Just sucks what happened to him man. It’s also funny how a lot of people and groups didn’t respect the grunge era. A lot of people also just focused on groups like Pearl Jam and nirvana and never gave AIC the love they deserved.

I'm a 53 year old man and I am still baffled how we have not come across an artist such as Layne Staley. His vocals are absolutely amazing, and I'm still grieving his loss. He was such an ambassador of grunge music and I am so honored to have been alive when he was in his prime. I still can't believe him, Kurt and Chris are gone.....but yet, I am so thankful to have been around when they were still putting out iconic music. When I play my guitar to these songs, I get tears in my eyes because I feel so blessed to play them. Godspeed to you Layne, Chris and Kurt. Thoughts and Prayers to our current generation......you will never see a better period than this.

I think it's because of the music industry, the record companies, they still determined who gets a contract, who gets played on the radio... it's so sad! But at least a happiness when a band has made it anyway. And Alice is one of the greatest; once you've been a fan, you'll always be a fan! They are just great. Who is capable of such music, can't be an average person.

It's haunting to see Layne look right into the camera, singing about being trapped in a box in his own sh*t, imploring for someone to come and save him, considering how his own story ended: a recluse in his own condo, trapped in the hell of addiction until he passed. Ok so check this out--- you say they died on the same date 8 yrs apart. Chris and Chester both died the same way and Chester died on Chris' b-day. I seriously think there is something evil linked to a lot these stars deaths. Think about how many rock stars and Hellywood stars that either died young or had someone they were very close to die in a weird way. Such as Eric Clapton's son fell out his apartments high rise window. Many of their loved ones were murdered. Idk, but personally I believe anyone that is allowed to become an Icon has to make a deal with the devil. I think they seriously make an oath of sacrifice. A blood sacrifice. If this seems way too heavy for you then just open your mind and research it all for yourself and make your own decision. Speaking of "Decision" - go watch Alice and Chains video to "It's your decision!" Notice the illuminati sacrifice, sex, and cannibalism clearly portrayed through out the video. Makes ya think..........

@@scottyboy2400 Intelligent people rule NOTHING out. I was recently reconnected with a dude I went to high school with YEARSSSss ago and somehow Nirvana came up and he mentioned how he remembered I was a big fan. We got to talking and he straight up said he didn't think Kurt committed suicide...made me kind of dredge up some past memories of conversations back in the day about how he'd had enough heroin in him to kill an elephant and somehow was able to pull a shotty trigger with his toe? Honestly....I have been a drug fan, an alcohol fan (which is a drug), and if you told me I could win a million dollars if I could position a shotgun into my mouth and pull the trigger with my TOE when I was f_cked up.....there is just no way. You would have to be DETERMINED and completely sober to do this I think. I'm not a police detective, but the evidence and existence of motives by Courtney just obviously imply something else was going on. Ok so let's say Kurt was a straight up suicide...you have great points around the concept that NOT ALL of these deaths could be attributed to just the nature of the beast of rock music... SOMETHING is going on here......
