Juneau is the capital of Alaska and the base for most cruise passengers coming to see Alaska's Glacier Bay. I visited at the end of August to explore this charming coastal city and the wildlife within. I saw my first brown bears on Chichagof Island, followed whales in the sea, and ate some delicious seafood.

Thank you for the effort you put into this video. I was born and raised in Seattle and I've lived in Juneau for almost 30 years now. Seattle's weather is NOT like Juneau's. Downtown Juneau gets 93 inches of rain a year. Seattle gets 36 inches a year, whereas Juneau gets almost three times as much rain which is always in the form of mist or drizzle, so we have way more rainy days in this part of the rain forest. Comparing Juneau's weather to Seattle is like comparing Seattle's weather to Pheonix (which gets 12 inches a year (a third of Seattle's). George Vancouver in 1794 documented the (named 100 yrs later) Mendenhall Glacier pressing up against Douglas Island (completely filling the Mendenhall Valley, covering the airport and filling Gastineau Channel with glacier and extending over to Douglas Island. Nice try though and good shots and hope you enjoyed our town.

Glad you had a wonderful visit to Juneau. Very sorry someone suggested that you take a bus that cost $45.00 round trip from downtown to Mendenhall Glacier when the Captial Transit bus could have got you to the entrance road for a few dollars. The walk from the bus stop to the vistors center only takes 15 to 20 minutes.

@AliceFordAdventures
@AliceFordAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Rylee, This was perfect for the bears. I was just across the river so about 70-200 feet away depending on where they were. It was however not great for whales but my whale shooting experience is limited. A 24-120 would have been better for whales and some of the other wildlife, especially since it was cloudy. I actually rented this lens from Borrow Lenses too which is a great alternative to buying new lenses.

FAIL: 1:50 - "We're not too far from the Tongass National Forest..." Wrong. You are in the heart of the Tongass in Juneau. But you got it right later. 6:20 - "You can hop on a ship to see the [Mendenhall] Glacier." Wrong. The glacier is on a lake. Ships can't get to the lake. And the park service heavily regulates any motorized boats on the lake. 10:50 - "I kept seeing carcass after [salmon] carcass, a reminder of how many bears had just been here..." Most salmon don't die from bears, they die from spawning. 14:29 - dream come true! I saw four bears (holds up five fingers).
