What a masterpiece! And what a performance! She gets the Ameria (my favorite of the suite) like no other pianist I've heard, every nuance perfectly shaped, exactly the right tempo and dynamics at every turn. Oh, to have been there! Sadly, I didn't come to Albeniz until much later in life so wouldn't have appreciated it then. I certainly do now! Thanks to all who made it possible to hear this.

I think at the time of this recital, her playing was the best anyone in the world could offer (and perhaps the best anyone prior or since as well). It's amazing.

This is far her best recorded version in terms of sound and acoustics of the hall (not to mention those fantastic fingers), surpassing her three commercial recordings…but I have a hard time believing that it was recorded from the audience, because it sounds like it was captured by microphones placed on the stage…but the performance is about as good as one could ever expect to hear…beyond stellar…

It's a staggering achievement - these are brutal pieces for the fingers and on the page a veritable "coal-field" of notes. I was recently listening to another (fabulously gifted) pianist playing Book 3 as I couldn't locate my CDs of Alicia, but no-one matches her. I often think of Claudio Arrau saying: a good physical build makes some pianists, others are driven by the power of spirit. And Alicia's spirit comes through in one of the most bracingly ecstatic passages: 1:22:28

Es muy difícil hacer, a estas alturas, un elogio del "pianísmo" de Alicia de Larrocha y de sus interpretaciones de la suite "Iberia" de Albéniz, ya sean las grabadas en disco ya sean las procedentes de sus interpretaciones "en vivo", como es el caso de la que aquí tenemos el inmenso placer de disfrutar .Siempre se escuchan como en un éxtasis y finalizan con la sensación de que hubiésemos sido silenciosos testigos de un milagro. Y eso es lo que, una vez más, ocurre con este concierto. Por suerte, podemos volver a disfrutarlo una y otra vez. Sólo hay que pulsar en la tecla oportuna y volver a soñar. Hay que agradecérselo eternamente a "pianistas clásicos".
