VERSE 1
You’re the engine that makes all things go
And you’re always in disguise, my hero
I see your light in the dark
Smile in my face when we all know it’s hard
There’s no way to ever pay you back
Bless your heart, know I love you for that
Honest and selfless
I don’t know if this helps it but
CHORUS 1
Good Job
You’re doing a good job
You’re doing a good job
Don’t get too down
The world needs you now
Know that you matter
Matter matter yeah
Good Job
You’re doing a good job
You’re doing a good job
Don’t get too down
The world needs you now
Know that you matter
Matter matter yeah
VERSE 2
Six in the morning
And soon as you walk through that door
Everyone needs you again
The world’s out of order
It’s not as sound
When you’re not around
All day on your feet
Hard to
Keep that energy
I know
When it feels like the end of the road
You don’t let go
You just press forward
You’re the engine that makes all things go
Always in disguise, my hero
I see a light in the dark
Smile in my face
When we all know it’s hard
There is no way to ever pay you back
Bless your heart
Know I love you for that
Honest and selfless
I don’t know if this helps it but
CHORUS 1
Good Job
You’re doing a good job
You’re doing a good job
Don’t get too down
The world needs you now
Know that you matter
Matter matter yeah
Good job
You’re doing a good job
You’re doing a good job
Don’t get too down
The world needs you now
Know that you matter
Matter matter yeah
BRIDGE
The Mothers
The Fathers
The Teachers that reach us
Strangers to friends
That show up in the end
From the bottom to the top
The listeners that hear us
This for you
You make me fearless
VAMP HOOK
You’re doing a good Job
You’re doing a good job
You’re doing a good job
Don’t get too down
The world needs you now
Know that you matter
Matter matter yeah

I am a single mother of an autistic child. No one could ever understand what a parent of a special needs child goes through. It is so hard that you feel your soul draining away. This song made me feel validated like someone gets me. Thank you.

@@ajallgood9339 Both are equally frightening. I think that I may not have enough time to teach her everything she'll need to live without me when I'm gone. I want her to succeed so badly, the feeling is so strong that I can almost touch it. Then I realize that time is an elusive illusion. Breathing in the moment makes it hard to think that, one day, there will be a last breath. But there will and that's when the fear of what happens to her rears its ugly head. At least, you love them enough to have it and they have your love. No matter what, they will be so much better off because of that.

@Quinn Dang if grocery stores closed or no employees showed up to work no one would be able to get groceries and both them and fast food workers are risking their lives for complete strangers that's a hero in my book. And why bring up celebrities no one mentioned one. If you don't like the music or my opinion then don't listen to the music and don't comment on my comment.

Thank you. That second verse got to me a bit as I'm headed to work. I'm in the security field but I da*n sure don't make minimum wage. I take days off with pay, sometimes half-days. I'm also blessed enough to have an emergency fund for times like this. People just like to get on a soapbox to seem holier-than-thou with no clue of how dedicated others are, how much they love their job/careers, or how much they earn or the excellence of the benefits they receive, or their life plan. Heck, I've had teachers become upset when they learn these things about my field. Again, I thank you.

I'm not an essential worker, but I'm battling depression and this song is a literal lifesaver. To everyone fighting depression, know that you matter, you're doing a good job. The world needs you. You're beautiful and amazing and someone loves you.

"I'm not an essential worker"... I do not agree. Your job may not be essential today but might be tomorrow. Your job may not be essential but you are. To your family. To your friends. To your coworkers. To the customer that needs your product or service. And so on. Do not feel sorry to exist, but feel proud to be on Earth. Go accomplish beautiful things, even the smallest ones!

As a mom of 3 small children, one with multiple disabilities, 1 with ADHD & a wild toddler I needed to hear this song. I’m late but this song has restored my faith. You say everything we wish to hear from someone else, but we are never told. Thank you for reminding me that I matter as a mom and that my children need me. ❤️🙏🏼

This song is so sweet is relevant to EVERYONE. I’m a mail carrier and I have two little ones, my mother is a manager at a grocery store and I have a father that’s terminally ill and it’s a struggle not being able to see him during this time. It’s a tough time and I appreciate all workers and my thoughts and prayers are with those who are not able to work. We are all in this together. We should all be spreading love and compassion right now. Thanks Alicia ♥️

Im not a doctor, a nurse, a teacher..Im just a lowly caregiver and guardian. As caregiver to my mom, it's an endless job....its constant...and the hardest part is switching roles with a parent. You spend you hole life them taking care of you and then you have to take care of them seeing their bodies fail...My mother is the reason i live...she is light inside me when all other lights go out...I fear her passing because a great portion if not all of my living spirit feels like it will be extinguished. Loving her, feeding her, making her feel comfortable and happy are my top priorities...all while having a full time job, and looking after my autistic niece....this song hit me like a ton of bricks. Putting off finding love, feeling lonely as hell, hiding my hunger so they can eat. Music is magic. Thank you for writing this. It's just the pat on the back I didn't know I needed.

This song still gets me every time I hear this song. For essential workers out there; doctors, nurses, bankers, police, customer service, grocery store workers, taxi drivers, and everyone else who keeps this country moving. THIS is exactly what should be told to you. It may not be what we want to hear, but it helps. It's beautiful . . . . . I work in a call center for a bank and every day. Fielding hundreds of questions. Panic over COVID related anything. The day that the stimulus check came out it overloaded the online banking systems for multiple financial institutions. That was the day that most of us took over 100 calls in a six hour stretch.

Being a healthcare worker it honestly hasn't been easy especially during this time of the pandemic waking up every morning feeling alright I consider that a gift from God because the uncertainty that comes with one not being sure if you'll be next person to be infected by the virus is not a good feeling you learn to live one day at a time and it's through music that we continue staying hopeful and giving it our all because it's a calling and it's a profession I'll choose over and over again.Good job to my fellow health professionals we are all in this together and together we shall over come.Nice music Alicia keys .

My mom is a child advocate therapist, which means she talks with kids 3-16 about how they’ve been abused and then helps them in court and in their situation and works sometimes 5-10 and is going through her hardest day as I write this and I think of her when I hear this song bc every single day she is literally so incredibly happy and energetic and always does stuff for my dad and I and does everything a mom should do even with her grueling job. To all those who need to hear it as well as anyone who is also in a branch of the medical field, especially right now, or is just going through a hard time, your doing a good job. Thank you for that.

What a way to start a song. The piano start with that one arm around. Then the 1st line. The the 2nd line, is like that other arm wrapped around. To speak from such a place where you can speak from somewhere else. And maybe cause positivity seems like a trend. But somewhere deep down it seems genuine, natural. Cheers to every beauty that is touched by such a slice. Thank you for continuing to share.
