Anastasia is fixated on those mussel shells! .....just as I was (except that I made them to be castanets)! They are just so fun, whether you feed them (as she's doing) or they BITE each other...those "hinges" make the FUN!

I'm jealous...hushpuppies are one of my favorites. I'm so happy the twins enjoyed their introduction to this southern favorite. I can remember my whole family (including aunts, uncles, cousins) having fish fries outdoors and hushpuppies were always on the menu, including corn-on-the-cob, sliced tomatoes, and homemade churned ice cream. Great times! Great dinner Mom and Dad!

Decades ago, my husband and I had friends who owned a sailboat that they docked in NY Harbor. On Sundays they would sail to the Jersey coast and pick us up. At the end of the day we would go to, I think, Long Branch and have dinner at the Crab Shack. It was over the water and had picnic tables and benches. For $12 you could get a bucket of mussels, a whole lobster, cole slaw and hush puppies. We were always very hungry after having been on the water all day and this was such a feast. Oh, for the good ole days!!

It's so good to see Guin feeling much better than yesterday. Anna has (more or less) discovered the best way to pull out the mussels from their shells, using an empty one as pincers. When they are empty, they can then be stacked inside each other, so they takeup less space. I adore freshly cooked mussels! I've never heard of Hush Puppies (except for the comfortable shoes by that name, here in the UK). What sort of fish is used to make them?

Hush puppies are made from a basic batter consisting of yellow cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, buttermilk or milk and eggs.❤️❤️

Oh my goodness! I cannot stand mussels or squid or calamari. But I LOVE HUSHPUPPIES!!! With tartar sauce or butter they are the bomb. I love shrimp but only fried shrimp. And I have just learned that during slavery times, the slave owners would feed shrimp to the slaves because they thought it was not fit for "regular" people! Anyway - glad to see you in NJ enjoying the Hush Puppies as much as we do here in the South. Hope they got something to drink!!! Enjoyed seeing Ana analyze the Mussel shells. Have a great day! Correctly cooked calamari is wonderful and tender. It should never be chewy. it seemed like when Gwen. chewed on it for quite a while and then swallowed a big piece. Wonderful job at introducing them to so many different foods. They’re gonna have great pallets as young ladies.

They are awesome at eating seafood. I may have touched breaded scallops and hush puppies when I was little, but that would have been it. I for sure started loving seafood as I got older. I finally got my shell eating teeth. LOL 🐚🐚🐙🐙
