Upon his defeat rathr than let JoJo kill him or keep him captive, he chose to kill himself rather than waste away, taking joy from being young and handsome one last time. THis goes to show that even dead Dio can inspire people to great evil.

besides that shock factor or humor or both is a great way to actually irl break people out of shock or "wake" people up, if someone witnesses something horrific, not putting full effort in, or is having a panic attack you need to say something strong enough to snap them out of it and go "what ?" even if you won't or even if it doesn't make sense. it's a genuine tactic used in a fair few fields.

I love how Joseph starts taking advantage of Straizo being a vampire almost immediately and exploiting it as a weakness. He used the mirror to trick him because Straizo has no reflection as a vampire, and a normal human would have noticed the weight of all those grenades, but to a vampire with super strength he wouldn't have noticed the extra pounds of weight.

I found it hilarious that Sniper Elite 5 had a random german soldier reference Stroheim here. About how he constantly annoyed the locals about how superior german technology was. Sniper Elite is a ww2 stealth shooter series, spying on enemies via binoculars gives you a tidbit of information about each, like their gear, their name, random trivia. Rudol Von Stroheim popped up on one soldier on the fifth mission and it made me laugh out loud. I left him alive cause he was fated to play a part in this show.

I always like to think that Straizo actually did all of this in order to make sure Joseph was ready to fight the pillar men. He says he (attempted to) kill speedwagon in order make Joseph get angry at him, which imo doesn't make any sense if he actually wants to beat him, and it fits with the part about him testing Joseph's character with if he'd save the woman. Straizo could've easily surprise attacked Joseph or at least make zombie minions or do something that would actually cause harm to the nearby citizens (aside from a tooth being taken out), but he chose not to and only did just enough to ensure Joseph would fight him.

Araki has said that he regrets how he wrote and handled women in his earlier works, and thankfully the gross stuff like reduces a lot over time. By Part 4 that icky dancing-around-consent stuff isn't in the series at all anymore and ever since he's included more cool women characters. It's one of many ways in which JoJo's improves over time.
