When they mate the drones inside explode, which actually can be audible to human ears. He then expires. Side Note: The drones that weren't able to mate get their wings chewed off and kicked out at the end of the season because they are a resource pit.

There is something that, to me, adds an extra layer to this. When Jerry was doing his retirement tour, someone asked him if he would ever do a movie. Jerry's answer was that it was unlikely, because he was worried it would be a bad movie. "if you watch a bad movie, it's two hours. If you're in a bad movie, it's two years." Yet, someone sent him the script to The Bee Movie, he read it, and went, "yeah, this seems like a great movie for me to be in."
