Fun fact, In the manga version it wasn't just one abnormal titan that somehow killed like 2-4 whole squads by itself, but it was a group of titans. The death of isabel and farlan were a lot more dramatic in there, tho they also managed to solo kill some titans. Levi ended up watching both of them die, after which he lost control and managed to take down the remaining titans from the group all on his own.

😞Poor Levi ps: all the talk around ppl of the underground having weak legs reminded me of levi season 1 episode 21 when he twisted his ankle fighting titan Annie . he's so much shorter and thiner than everyone too because he grew up in the underworld with no sun 😢he's so strong but now we see he also has weaknesses

So, I absolutely love when Erwin and Levi first talk. I think it says a lot about Erwin when he kneeled in the filth he made Levis face touch. He's lowering himself to Levi, and I think that's so in character for him. Obviously you've already figured it out, but Erwin wasn't aware of Levi wanting to kill him when he asked him to join the scouts. He knew he was going to try, but at that moment he wanted Levi for a soldier, not to betray the other guy. Even tho he knows Levi was on a job

Yea, Levi is quite an amazing guy. Depsite everything going against him, he's such a noble person. Also, the underground as far as I know, still is down there. That hasn't changed. I guess since you eat he'd both ova, but wlthe big question is: why weren't the 2 with Levi, in present time? We never saw them. Yea, they get absolutely done dirty. If you notice any similar shots, it's kinda callback reasons. Since season 1 of attack on Titan happened and pretty much nothing else happened, when we did get new anime or episodes, they liked to make small references, either with certain characters, with certain shots, or certain areas. It's nice when its been a while for most people

hey, fyi, there's a few differences between these episodes and the manga. I copied what happens to Furlan and Isabel from the wiki but they were basically ambushed by a lot of Titans rather than just one OP one just and I kinda prefer it since it doesn't make them seem underpowered. Levi is on his horse searching for Erwin. He finds a squad that has been wiped out by titans. Levi sees the footprints of multiple Titans, before realizing they are headed back towards his friends. He forgets his mission to go after Erwin and follows the Titan's footprints. Levi's horse becomes unusable after tripping and falling, so he is forced to run. Levi is unable to make in time to save Isabel from being eaten. Furlan is in danger as well, but once again Levi does not arrive quick enough to save him. Levi slices open the Titan's stomach and pulls what is left of Furlan out, but he is already dead. Blind with rage, Levi ruthlessly kills the four remaining Titans in an instant. Levi is horrified upon finding Isabel's decapitated head, and closes her eyes.

Erwin was kind of weird in the OVA compared to the manga. He wasn't cruel and cold like here. Also what he said to Levi after his friends died, made a lot more sense in the manga to make Levi join him. In the OVA it was always just weird to me, and I thought eh maybe I just don't get it, or its cultural difference and what not, but nah they just changed it. Made sense after I read how they addressed it in the manga. Maybe someone in Patreon can fill you in on that if you want.

Not gonna lie, I wish they were more... loyal to the manga with this one, I feel like they didn't get Erwin's personality right. Manga clearly shows the difference between Commander Erwin and Captain Erwin (who wasn't under so much pressure and wasn't bearing so much responsibility back then). In the manga Erwin is... well, he's nicer to Lewi, I guess. Like, when Levi gets his first titan kill Erwin is really excited about it instead of criticizing him like in the anime. He says "So your wings are the real thing after all, Levi" with a smile on his face. Or their interaction after his friends died, it's different in the manga. Like, Levi blames himself for his friends' deaths and Erwin tells him it wasn't his fault, it was the Titans and humanity needs Levi's strength. Honestly, in the anime I never understood why Levi was so impressed and decided to follow Erwin because his speech is so... meh. In the manga he genuinely convinces Levi that it was the titans who killed Erwin's comrades and Levi's friends and that they should fight them for their freedom and they shouldn't give up etc. I don't know why they chose to make Erwin some kind of cold asshole :/ Canon Erwin: haunted by the deaths of people under his command and his comrades ACWNR Erwin: your friends died? lol Levi is also OOC in anime. Levi in the manga hesitates to kill Erwin because he has no reason to and he doesn't really blame Erwin for Isabel and Furlan's deaths, he blames himself. And Erwin shows him empathy and redirects Levi's anger at titans which explains why he hates Titans so much in canon. I also think anime didn't do justice to Levi's relationship with his friends, in the manga their deaths hit you differently because Levi literally saved Isabel's life, she was left to die among some garbage and he even beat (or murdered? can't remember sadfsad) the guys who cut her hair because she was his little sister :(( he was so protective. Furlan on the other hand hears about Levi's strength, and challenges him with his gang to convince Levi to join them but Levi refuses and in the end Furlan joins him lol ACWNR OVA is good but manga is much, much better.

Eh I think the anime has some of the original points in subtext. His anger towards Erwin is moreso finding out the mission was useless which in turn leaves his friends’ deaths to be with no big meaning.
