"In Space, No One Can Hear You Scream" This movie is considered iconic. For 1979, the special effects, the alien effect was ahead of it's time. And arguably made Ridley Scott (and Sigorney Weaver) a household name. With not knowing what to expect, sitting in a darkened movie theater, this movie turned up the horror. Oh, and have you watched the Lord of the Rings? The character Ash is Sir Ian Holm, aka, Bilbo Baggins. In fact, the entire cast are seasoned actors. The sequel Aliens was excellent too, not for the horror, but the action.

Besides the Alien and Predator universes crossing over, Aliens and Blade Runner are the same universe. The company in Alien is Weyland-Yutani, the BR company is Tyrell. In the bonus features of Alien 20th Anniversary edition, Dallas' bio states he worked for Tyrell prior to W-Y. And on Prometheus blu-ray, a bonus is part of Peter Weyland's diary in which he wrote about being mentored by Dr. Tyrell and learn to build better, obedient androids by observing Tyrell's mistakes with the Replicants (androids).

Yall not taking this film nearly as seriously as it should be taken. First off this is the first horror film to ever be nominated for an Oscar which is a huge deal and the special effects were revolutionary for the 70s. Second, there are layers to this franchise and the whole story, it's not as simple and clear cut as it may seem. There's a lot more mystery and depth and philosophical twists behind it as the franchise progresses. This is really just an introduction to the Alien universe.

I'm just explaining to them what's up with Alien. It's not just some random horror flick from the 70s. It's the GOAT of horror and scifi, it inspired a whole generation of genres, films, books and even games like Dead Space and revolutionized the film industry forever. People had heart attacks and seizures watching this film in theaters when it first came out, it may seem cheesy to them now, almost 50 years later but at the time it was revolutionary and it's legacy persists to this day. Alien: Romulus came out this year and is being hailed as one of the best films in the franchise since James Cameron's Aliens which is considered one of the best sequel films of any franchise EVER.

It definitely takes a particular eye to really appreciate these kinds of films. The amount of work that went into Alien for its time was exponential considering its low budget. They had to think on their feet with a few things because of the limitations with the budget, so it's definitely worth looking into the making of the film. I love when a film takes its time to introduce us to a place, a setting and the tone of a universe where a film is set - rather than shoving events right at the beginning that don't really hold much meaning to the film and could easily have been cut. I find these days that most films have ridiculous budgets that are wasted on graphics and big name actors, and then the film itself lacks so much substance. Not saying that big budget films can't achieve success, but the film industry is so saturated with them its hard to trust your judgement if a film is going to be good or not these days. Sometimes stripping something down to its bare state is so refreshing and yet reminiscent of a time when good quality films existed consistently throughout the 70s and 80s.

EDit: Y'all got me with that slow fall bit, now I am think of Ezell from Friday. "My neck and back back, I need 150k." We need more crack heeds in space. In space you have less context for velocity, it looks slow and ponderous but consider that even when you are in an air plane looking out the window at the clouds and ground, it doesn't look like it is going fast but the cruising speed for a passenger plane is like 500mph. If you were lower to the ground, you would see mountains and stuff whipping passed but at altitude it is just sliding by. As far as turbulence, breaking from the vacuum of space into atmosphere is very turbulent, its why they have to use so much heat shielding on real world space craft. I think that is also the most common point of failure that has cause the various accidents and disasters, like some heat shielding fails and then some internal fire or mechanical failure happens. Just saying, flying around like Star Wars isn't what should be expected. The TV show the Expanse still has my favorite version of space travel when you have to contend with physics and such.

Thank you , Thank you. In a week full of lies, wars, drones, Hamas, cartels, hurricanes, death and elections, I find myself laughing again. "And you all thought Diddy was bad . . . . " Priceless.

I understand you all have to watch Alien first but I’d strongly suggest watching Aliens next. It’s arguably the greatest sequel of all time. And it isn’t slow paced like Alien.

Alien vs Predator is not canon to the Alien Franchise/Universe. It's a "spoof" film that came out in the early 2000s like Freddy vs Jason or Batman vs Predator comics. It's still a fun film but it directly contradicts established canon from the Alien prequel film Prometheus and it's sequels Alien: Covenant and Alien: Romulus.
