Star Wars was the first movie to use actual computer generated graphics on screen as the wire frame technical readout of the Death Star we see during the Battle of Yavin briefing scene. Interesting side note. In the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, the computer HAL features a wire frame graphic of the AE-35 antenna that turns and rotates during a pivotal scene. That "computer graphic" is actually hand drawn cell animation that was created by building an actual model of the antenna out of wire, painted white and filmed in front of a black cloth while it was turned and rotated. This was then used to rotoscope the animated cells with the blue background that we see in the finished film.

So the company they work for, Weyland-Yutani, is a megacorporation with interests in a lot of things, including mining, manufacturing, and all kinds of technology. The whole clause in their contracts about having to investigate any possible signs of intelligent life wasn't because they were planning on having the Nostromo go find this alien, it's a standard clause in the contracts of everyone serving on one of their ships. If a Weyland-Yutani ship finds intelligent alien life and brings it back, odds are extremely good that the corporation would stand to make a ton of money from the discovery: enough that they'd consider the crew expendable if it means they can get their hands on it.

The alien was right in front of the entrance to the life shuttle. So she wanted to stop the self destruct of the nuclear reactor (she removed the cooling rods forcing it super critical) to potentially draw it away first (maybe lock it in a farther part of the ship) and then set off the reactor and leave the ship. But it went down and hid in the shuttle, because it figured out this is the only place that isn’t flashing sirens at me and steam isn’t being let off. Great reaction, as ever. The ship wasn't transporting eggs. The original alien lifecycle as scripted in Alien was that the adult alien would cocoon and genetically infect its victims who would be transformed into eggs. So the eggs in the hold were what's left of the rest of the crew of the alien ship. There is a scene which Ridley cut from the theatrical where Ripley stumbles across the alien's lair as she is running through the ship and finds Dallas in a cocoon who begs her to kill him. The top of the cocoon is reminiscent of the shape of the top of an alien egg. Also in the lair is something which looks far more like an egg which used to be Brett. This scene was restored in the extended cut but to be honest the sculpture of the lair doesn't get the message across unless you know what you're looking for. In Alan Dean Foster's novelisation Dallas explicitly tells Ripley that the egg like thing used to be Brett before asking her to kill him. This whole idea would be retconned in Aliens as it fitted the action narrative better to have the eggs created in a different way but I'm not going to say any more to avoid spoilers. The first alien movie to use much in the way of CGI was Alien³ but sadly the technology wasn't quite up to what they wanted to achieve with it which damaged the overall result. Personally I'm one of the few who quite enjoyed Alien³ as it dared to, again, change genre in the same universe and I don't mind bleak, nihilistic prison drama and have a soft spot for David Fincher. You've actually got a still from Alien³ in your title sequence. Keep up the good work, guys.
@RamblersInc5 күн бұрын
Ooohh it cocoons. I would have liked to see that bit. It's weird. We were deciding between the theatrical and the directors cut, but the directors cut was shorter so we went with the theatrical. If he added the cocoon bit, what did he take out?
@technofilejr34015 күн бұрын
In the original script, Ripley doesn’t survive. The Xenomorph dodges her harpoon and gets back onto the shuttle. It then ends Ripley in a horribly graphic manner. In the final scene, the Xenomorph was supposed to sit down and sends a distress message in Captain Dallas’s voice. This was meant to show that the alien can actually take on aspects of creatures it encounters. However, this movie was released by 20th Century Fox the same company that distributed Star Wars 2 years prior. Some of the executives at 20th probably realized this was the beginning of a new lucrative franchise. So they met with Ridley Scott and persuade him to change the ending. So now 45 years later we are still watching Alien movies.

Having them investigate possible life is not at all like having an Amazon driver investigate a fire. It is basic maritime law. If you are at sea and there is a distress call, it doesnt matter if you are a freighter, you are supposed to investigate. If you were lost in space (or sea), would you not want ANY passing ship to rescue you?

Basically, it's space truckers sent to investigate an alien species, unbeknownst to them due to corporate greed, and quickly die except for one who was making the best/wisest choices from THE BEGINNING. I say, "Listen to the Cat Lady" is the real lesson of the movie!😅😅 I really do love this movie and Aliens too. Many have their opinions of the others that follow. Personally, I'm a fan of the franchise whether some are better than others.

Yes, you must see Aliens. One of the few sequels that is better than the original, which is saying something! Plus there are many classic one liners, you may have heard but not known that they came from " Aliens". Something I missed when I first watched it in the late Seventies. When Sigourney went to stop the countdown, the Film switched to a distant view of the shuttle front and you can just make out the alien going across the window.

Hello gentleman! Congrats on getting thru this OG sci-fi horror/slasher flick.😊 ALIEN & ALIENS are my favorites of the franchise. I like your name for the creature that latches onto Caine, "hand-face thing".😄 I always thought it looked like a spider, or a cross between a spider & a scorpion. So, I used to call it "spider thing" until I learned it's called a "face-hugger". The face-hugger's only purpose is to transfer a xenomorph (alien) egg/embryo into a living host. Once it has done its job, it dies. I do think u should watch PROMETHEUS. I liked it a lot. It's a prequel to ALIEN. It'll explain some stuff that u were questioning in your commentary at the end of your reaction.😊 Ripley is a badass final girl.😊 Anyway, enjoyed the reaction fellas. Waiting to see, what u have for us next.

1) Mother is short for mothership, a computer rulling all (think of motherboard in a computer - the same way of creating a name) 2) the main ship is Nostromo and this is what detached from the big one which is not a ship but their space mine and cargo carrier 3) actually many times we think they're not wise enough is orchestrated by Ash misleading them giving false info plus counting on (what you said) natural curiosity of a 4year old 4) not listening to Ripley - it is a movie dated 1979, women in power, commanding, authority was only a sci-fi thing :) Creating Ripley as such a wise, capable, brave and reliable officer was a novelty, a thing completely invisible for people today - the crew didn't listen to her b/c that was the undercurrent in the story - they triffle with her b/c she's a woman (and are prooved wrong). Today not noticable at all (thankfully!). 5) why isn't it dying ? Well, the idea is the alien is a "perfect creature" - indestructible, indeed. Probably, you could disintegrate it by a solid nuke. If you choose to watch the frachise, you might meet her (!) again.

The chest burst scene is iconic in that the cast were not told it was coming. Their shocked faces are genuine. Also, Ridley Scott told Yaphet Kotto to annoy Sigourney Weaver for an entire day of shooting. When Ripley yells at Parker, that's Weaver genuinely annoyed at Kotto.
@tulinfirenze19905 күн бұрын
Fun fact - In every "Alien" reaction video, at least one person will repeat the fallacy that the cast didn't know what was going to happen during the chestburster scene. This is nonsense. They had all read the script and of course KNEW what was going to happen. It was the ferocity of the effect and the amount of blood and gore that shot out that surprised them. Veronica Cartwright's horrified reaction at the stream of blood was real.

Fun fact, it was later inserted into the sequel that Lambert(Veronica Cartwright) is a transwoman. It’s a tidbit of information that is shown on screen in Lambert’s character very briefly. Due to budgetary constraints, Lambert’s death scene was cobbled together from spare footage of Brett (Harry Dean Stanton) death scene. Her eventual demise is heard not seen. But curiously enough it is briefly shown that Lambert’s body is undressed. Which has lead some to believe the Xenomorph was trying to mate with her. But then discovered they weren’t compatible and ended her.

It's hard to explain how important Ripley's character was to a lot of girls. There just wasn't that many role models in the seventies. Are the 80s for that matter or the 90s or on. She is definitely one of a kind. As I understand it she was originally supposed to be a man, but they took a chance and let her read for the part and they loved her and they decided to go ahead and try it as a girl. Thank goodness they did. In most movies if a woman is an action hero she either acts like a man, is a b****are goes crazy. Paging game of thrones. Ripley was still a woman and still emotional but she still kept it together and saved herself. And Jones who by the way is the real goat. Keep watching and you'll get it. I also always wondered how did Lambert managed to make it into space? She comes to pieces when anything happens. They must not really do any major training or personality testing to let them go out into space, because she probably would have failed.

James Cameron directed the sequel Aliens. He changed the genre to action adventure, but kept and even expanded the horror elements. It's a little easier if you take the first four movies as different genre types. And there are interesting perspectives in all of them. And different Stokes for different folks. For instance, I love Alien Resurrection. Joss Weadon wrote the screenplay, and you can see components that were later developed into Firefly. So the aliens are loosely part of the Buffyverse. The actors and performances are great and there are reworkings of old twists, so there's some fun, some horror, and surprises. That's more than you get out of most movies.

Hi Guys. Alien is my favorite movie series. I know a lot about it. I saw this movie in theatres in '79. it scared everyone. I'd say the only other Most scary movie is Exorcist '73. HA HA. Well you know Signory Weaver was originally cast to play Lambert and Veronica Cartwright was cast for Ripley. The last day before filming Ridley Scott switched their roles. I often wonder what the series would have been like if he haven't. Oh you guys are skipping a lot of the key scenes with key character interactions, I have given ""Dislikes" before for this😡 Remember these guys are just truck drivers.. Well I will tell you to do the movie ""PROMETHEUS" next. it's the prequel to Alien. Be sure you get the ten min cut scene between David and the Engineer and play it at end of movie. U can find it here on KZbin. Then watch the sequel to this movie "ALIENS". Then the sequel to Prometheus , which is "ALIEN COVENANT" as far as the other movies in the series they are junk. Ask me any questions you like I will reply

@@RamblersInc Well thats how it was watched by fans, but if you do it in the order I just told yo, you will understand the series much better. In Prometheus you see who is Weyland and how the LV systems was found and the the first generation of the robot Ash, which is David. in Aliens you will see third generation of robot which is Bishop, just as an example. If you play that cut conversation between David and the Engineer it tells you loads of things about the whole series
