Thank you Stan Winston! No one can ever bring the creatures from our worst nightmares to life quite like you do! You earned that damn Oscar!

Great insider views! I would guess that not many people realize the amount of design and test work that goes into each short scene in a major movie. Thanks for the show :-)

I didn't see Aliens in its theatrical release for an obvious reason. But I watch it at least once a year, every year and I love it everytime! I don't love a movie as much as I love this one. Aliens has everything that a good movie should have and it's too bad that it's not recognized by many people. Thanks for your comments rekunta!

All I remember is when I first saw the film, I was like "omgmgmgmg this is awesome" I think "Alien" was scary! Today, it is still a great thriller! "Aliens" was exciting to me. But after seeing the movies so many times, I started to notice their techniques and visual effects. This is what still makes me admire these films to this day!

in college as a mechanical engineering major, and one thing i realized that i like thinking about is how they make all these animatronics and whatnot. i'm even playing around with my own ideas, but i don't think cgi should be bashed. if it weren't for the fact that i can't draw worth jack, i'd have tried getting into cgi animation. both have their pros and cons, their expanses and their limits, so in the end, i think both are pretty damn cool.

The work that USED to go into movies like this. Nowadays people rely on computer graphics. Nothing inherently wrong with that, but there's no hard work going into animatronic pieces like this anymore. And I'm not trying to imply people don't work hard on computer graphics either, but you don't have to think as creatively as these guys.

Oh definitely. The effects in the later movies weren't particularly bad, they just were written and/or directed in a very interesting way.

The queen is from the facehugger that attached itself to Newt's father. All xenomorph's have the ability to create eggs, and molt into queens. It just takes much longer.

This is why CGI should be saved for things that absolutely *cannot* be done with practical effects. This damn movie is nearly 30 years old and the Alien Queen still looks convincing as fuck.

Looks good when it's standing or walking, looks wonky when it starts running. Still, bad cgi would have been worse.

@4cellar2door0 what are you talking about I saw the movie recently and I didnt see any wires and strings. You put the footage in a computer and edit it to remove that stuff from the scenes.

people who bash cgi should know that it ain't a choice sometimes, it's just a way to make some things that can't be made practically, and most importanlty, its saves a lot of money, some good films wouldn't be out if it wasn't for CGI.

did you ever wonder where the queen came from in the movie? since it lays all the facehuggers? which came first the facehugger or the queen?

There's nothing wrong with CGI itself, the problem is the studios wanting to push profit margins to the limit. Before CGI the special FX team would have an astonishing task of trying to produce the best looking shots they can possibly get while staying inside the budget of the film. Now the special FX budget (unless its cutting edge CGI akin to Avatar) can be cut in half and have anything done. Unfortunately that run-of-the-mill CGI is not putting anything better than what we saw in 1998.
@balrog1357115 жыл бұрын
Yeah I mean I loved Tom and Alec's work (they were the only ones I gave any credit to in Ressurection and Requiem besides Weaver of course) and CGI can come out good, but I think there was something far better about the Alien queen without it. The way she moves is slower, but it's more horrifying and suspensful and calls for more work. Well it's all fun stuff. But the Aliens looked amazing in this movie.
@jodroboxes14 жыл бұрын
this is so cool.. in those day's CGI was aweful.
@KuntaKinteToby11 жыл бұрын
CGI itself isn't the problem. The problem is the use of 'cheap and easy CGI' and by that I mean simply throwing any and all special FX at the CGI team and letting them have their fill. If CGI was used as the tool it should be it would be awesome and the way it should be. Good CGI is CGI you can't tell was CGI. Jurassic Park is 20 years old and CGI on the T-Rex is still the same - not noticeable. While most of it is robotic some is CGI and you can't tell which is which. That's good CGI.

@trollcrusher242 I should know this because I added the tracks to the clips... but I no longer has this video in my files, so I can't remember which soundtrack numbers I added. Also, at 3:54 it ends and a new track begins: it sounds to me like it is track 3 from OST: New's horror.

Most all films today are just whiz bang effects (*cough Star Trek cough*). Who needs a good script, compelling characters and competent acting when you can just bombard people with flash? Fun while it lasts but utterly forgettable once out of the theatre. NOT like Aliens. I really wish I could've seen Aliens in its theatrical release. We're probably never going to see such a great movie again. CGI has ruined the Sci-Fi genre. It should complement the story, not the other way around.
