Seeing Kane's lifeless body being unceremoniously sucked into the cold vacuum of space is just so terrifying.

"What are my chances?" > DOES NOT COMPUTE

Around this time 45 years ago, I went and saw 'Alien' in-cinema in Brighton; for me 'the' key moment in the film is when Dallas (Tom Skerrit) seeks help in vain from the ship's main computer about how to deal with the Alien; finally he types in the question: 'What are my chances?' to which the computer replies on it's screen 'Does not compute'; this Jerry Goldsmith empathetic music cue brilliantly underpins the scene as all good film music does, as beautiful to listen to 'stand-alone', as when part of the original scene.

I find that most people who watch 'Alien' absorb the music unconsciously. They will talk about the 'feel' of the movie, but they don't realise that as much as the photography and production design, the music is key to this.

His middle name was King. He most certainly was one as far as music is concerned.

Well said! He proved that with scores like this score,Rambo 1-3, Runaway, Secret of Nihm and definitely Twilight zone the movie. And the list goes on and on.
