Kai Tangata literally means “man flesh” or “man eater” depending on the context. The band (who are also of Māori decent), are from the north of New Zealand, and more specifically from the Ngā Puhi tribe. Ngā Puhi we’re the first to gain firearms and subsequently went on massive rampages through the central North Island of New Zealand. The phrase “kai tangata” was attributed to Ngā after this as they slaughtered so many of their rival tribes. The phrase that they keep singing “He mahi a Tūmatauenga” means “the work of the god of war”.

Kia ora korua, although there's a lot more growth in regards to the combination creating something rare and unique. Tumatauenga is the deity of man and war. Alien weaponry refers to the introduction of the musket. Traditional weaponry was hand to hand, eye to eye, footwork, speed, strength and agility. Similar to other cultures, death in battle was considered an honor. For a small population, we do punch above class as a western democratic society that dares to be different.
