I did the same mistake of directly moving towards UX rather then focusing on UI but when I came into game, I realized UI and UX are both parellerly important. This video is very helpful. And surprisingly, accountability is something very few people tell you about when giving information about design learning and such. This is personally the biggest issue I face. In my self learning journey, my biggest set back has been lack of accountability and it can very quickly pile up and become a roadblock that confuses the heck out of you! The use of a title by companies doesn't validate it. The usage of "UX/UI" didn't begin until about 2012 and has been an underlying cause of poor UX maturity, devaluing of the discipline, and subjects those who hear it to the consequences of embracing misinformation.
