Totally! People went nuts every time I saw it in the theater in 1986, which was four or five times. I read that when Paul Reiser (Burke) went to the premiere of the movie, he took his mother with him. He was concerned how his mom would handle his death scene in the movie. When the door opened and the alien was standing there, the entire audience cheered. Paul looked at his mom and she was standing and cheering with everyone else.

Burke is such a memorable villain that a big reason Paul Reiser was cast in "Stranger Things" was because viewers would see him and think, "This guy was Burke, don't trust him" (and then of course, they pull the twist by making his character a decent guy).

Such a great reaction. It's beyond rare to find reactors who offer intelligible commentary without coming off as pretentious or cynical. Very well balanced commentary and both a voice for radio. Audio balancing was near-perfect. No excessive editing either. This movie remains my all-time favourite. Your commentary did it a lot justice. Equally impressed with the amount of care/diligence taken for both reactors and editor. A reaction by authentic people. Very refreshing.

@@OfficialMediaKnights Late to the party, but I want to add that you guys always seem to genuinely go into a movie intent on enjoying it, and watching it as a movie without too many preconceptions. I've seen some reactors who go into a movie expecting it to be bad, and make fun of it from the get go, but I much prefer it when people just watch the movie, and not immediately criticise or mock it. Especially if it's a movie that wasn't intended as a funny or bad movie, and wasn't seen that way when it came out. I don't need everyone to love every movie, not every movie is for every person, but for a reaction channel, going into it with an open mind is kind of important in my opinion, and you guys do that, at least the videos I've seen. 😊

Ironically, they watched the Special Edition which spoils that tension building by having the Facehugger reveal so early. @@theveteransergeant - I agree. But, at least it was just a facehugger early on, not a full-on xenomorph. The moment the one on the wall behind Vasquez starts to move, and the audience realizes JUST how closely surrounded they are… still very impactful, even with the facehugger scene early on.

@@theveteransergeant100% agree. In the theatrical cut there’s a mystery as to the fate of the colonists right up until the brutal cocoon reveal; this version undercuts that mystery and the tension that comes with it. From my experience, Directors Cuts only work when excessive studio interference caused cuts that were detrimental to the director’s vision. More often than not, however, cuts that were made were done because of pacing issues and are generally proven to have been correct decisions.

Supposedly, the script was originally titled "Mother". James Cameron says that he wrote scripts for fun and came up with an idea for space marines marooned on a desert planet with hive-like space bugs. The title "Mother" was in reference to a human mother who lost her child against the space bug "mother" as you point out. Supposedly, when Cameron was offered the sequel to Alien, he was asked if he had any ideas to which Cameron said, "I have a few" pulled out the script for "Mother" changed the names and reconfigured the main character to be Ripley and turned it in.

The nest-scene is my favourite scene in the whole movie. It communicates an extraordinary amount, with zero words, with Ripley basically bargaining for her and Newts safe passage out of there, and the alien queen actually agreeing to let her go... Ripleys head tilt as the egg opens is just a fantastic insert. The only ones that can't be trusted to honor an agreement are the babies, who operate on pure instinct, and that head tilt just says "Well, shit...", and after that all bets are off!

I was looking for someone to comment on this. They said "defence mechanism", like he fell asleep out of fear/chock from the drop. But it's quite the opposite. Hicks sleeping is, just like you said, common military "strategy", to get some shut eye any chance you're given, and it also shows how much experience he has of these things (in comparison to the scared-shitless Gorman). He is able to sleep in the chaos, the noise and the shaking - because he's done it so many time before.

I was 19 when I saw this in a theater in 1986. I was completely physically, mentally, and emotionally drained when it was over. I don't think I moved for 10 minutes after the film ended. "How have they not built a Alien theme attraction already" They did in London. Pepsi-Max Theatre. It was called "Alien War". It was opened by Sigourney Weaver herself, as well as Lance Henriksen and a Couple of Alien 3 actors ... and they tried it out... they said they was terrified. It featured Marines evacuating civilians through a invested colony. It had people in Xenomorph suits and holograms. I went there as a teenager and was traumatised... the acting was on point and the effects were amazing... i was scared out of my skin. I also tripped at the end of the tour and fell behind... so much so that the actors in Xenomorph suits had to improvise and started grabbing us and pulling us back into the "Hive"... i ran out crying my eyes off. Best experience ever... especially since i have always been a fan of the franchise. Also Alien 3 is worth a watch. It's not as good as 1 or 2 and is depressing and controversial. Fun Fact: @ 11:37 when Bishop does the knife trick on Bill Paxton, no one on set told Bill about it so when they do the scene, Bill's reaction is a legitamitely fearful one and was scared out of his mind

I love how much Halo CE was inspired by Aliens, the marine's looks, spaceships, facehuggers being the flood pod infectors, etc

Thank you for reacting to the Director's Cut. The big difference is that none of the footage of the colony before the attack was in the original cut. None of Newt's family, none of the management, none of it. At least a good 10 minutes with a completely different storyline. Thanks for sharing your reaction!

I've been a Director's Cut stan since it was released (probably seriously upwards of 300 times, if not more) but watching the theatrical is still special. I think the flow of the whole cut is tighter and more intense, especially without the extra colony and sentry gun scenes. DC is the best but the theatrical cut is worth a rewatch.

@@chrisguthrie4099 Agree with the colony and sentry gun scenes, but cutting the part about Ripley's daughter was terrible. Unlike the colony and sentry gun, that was a major plot point. It only lasted a couple of minutes, so they could have squeezed that in. For those of you who are wondering why they had to cut the length: 1984 was in the era before multiplexes, so most theaters just had one screen. If the movie was long, that limited the number of times a movie could be played in a day and its profitability.

As a kid and even into adulthood, the xenomorph has terrified me and haunted my dreams. Even so, this is one of my all time favorite sequels of any franchise and one of my top 5 movies from my childhood. It's amazing how well this film still holds up all these years later.

The situation with the woman and the chest burster is sadder than what you see. The fact that she is still alive when they get there means she lasted a long time like Newt, and except for bad luck, she almost could have survived. Don't know if she and Newt teamed up at all, though. Even sadder if they did.

This video was absolutely brilliant!! I watched Aliens, which is my favourite ever film, in the cinema way back in 86 as a teenager, and I saw it 6 times within a couple of months, and the atmosphere in the theatre was electric! Every single show was sold out and this is what we’re missing today, that feeling of togetherness with everyone watching a film instead of streaming it! It was a real pleasure seeing two people watching the best sequel ever made for the very first time- I loved this! Top marks!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Thanks for watching the extended version! Shame they never made any more Aliens movies, but at least it ended beautifully. Definitely no other installments in the franchise that could ruin this.

Jokes aside, yeah that franchise went down hard. Alien 3 is a crap film (unceremoniously kills of Newt and Hicks off screen, never explains how and why Ripley got an Alien in her and much more). To its defense? The set design was on point (creepy, industrial, forbiding, apocolyptic atmosphere), and production trouble was so bad it's actually a testament to the Director's talent (same guy who did Seven and Fight Club). A testement in the fact they managed to get anything out at all. Still a crap film though...though not near as bad as Weadon's wank fest, nor Ridley Scott's prequels (I swear those 2 films are made by a AI script bot that was exposed to too many euphoric atheist reddit threads). If you want a GOOD Alien 3? Darkhorse published the unused William Gibson (father of the Cyberpunk genre) script as a comic, and they latter made that into an audio drama. In the Audio Drama Lance Henrickson and Michael Bien both represent their roles.

You can rewatch the original many times, but there's no mystery. You can enjoy the acting, etc, but the tension of not knowing what's going to happen next is gone. This one, you can rewatch for the action, which is just as powerful the last time as the first.

@@miller-joel yes, Alien is a suspense horror scifi movie, and on rewatching lots of the suspense simply can't be experienced a second time while the movie itself is still enjoyable as a classic (i can't count how often i watched it during all the decades; but i really enjoyed every single time when reactors watched it for the first time); and Aliens is an action scifi horror movie that can be rewatched over and over because of many reasons and thus is my choice if i nowadays want to see any "Alien" movie. Alien³ is "just another sequel" to make money with a trilogy (it isn't really completely bad, even when it can't catch up to the first two by far), and i take part 4 more of something "interesting" and "have to watch" only to complete my collection of 6 A, 5 P and 2 AvP movies ... i probably could watch all those additional sequels a few more times, not because they are so good, but i maybe can see them as a series, and barely can remember them even after seeing them a few times :-) just like Tremors, Terminator, Jurassic and many other multi-logies (good parts 1&2, rest "interesting")

@@Anson_AKB Aliens made a ridiculous amount of profits for the studio (low budget, high return), so they definitely wanted to make another one and didn't care if it was complete garbage. That's basically what they told the director, David Fincher.

The Alien Queen's design was based on H. R. Giger's design for the Xenomorph, of course, but it was James Cameron who designed his own character the Queen (he's a pretty amazing designer), and the legendary Stan Winston who made the actual life-size Alien Queen puppet. Three puppeteers were inside that puppet, which also had to be held up by cables like the power loader.
