Aliens: Colonial Marines is a video game developed by Gearbox Software and published by Sega for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Wii U and Xbox 360. It is the third Aliens title that Sega has produced: the first was Aliens vs. Predator in 2010, and the second was Aliens Infestation in 2011. Events will take place after the death of Ellen Ripley in Alien3, with the USCMC sending a new detachment of marines to investigate the incident on LV-426, leading them to the ruined colony of Hadley's Hope, the abandoned USS Sulaco and the Derelict Ship on the planet's surface. Another location rumoured as appearing in the game, at least in early drafts, is Fiorina 161, although it remains to be seen if this has actually been included in the final release.
Aliens: Colonial Marines is a sci-fi/horror first-person shooter which puts the player in the role of a United States Colonial Marine as seen in the film Aliens. The player will have access to iconic weapons from the movie such as the Flamethrower, Pulse Rifle, Smartgun, pistol, RPGs, and robot sentry turrets. Players will also be able to use welding torches to seal doors and motion trackers to detect unseen enemies.
In 2179 a USCM force was dispatched on board the USS Sulaco to the Hadley's Hope on LV-426 to destroy a Xenomorph infestation.
All contact with the Sulaco and its crew was lost.
The USCM dispatched the USS Sephora with a battalion sized force and a full compliment of surface bound nuclear warheads to secure the situation once and for all.
Described as a true sequel to James Cameron's film, the story of Aliens: Colonial Marines takes place after the events of the third film Alien3. Much of the main plot was written by re-imagined Battlestar Galactica writers Bradley Thompson and David Weddle. The story is told through the eyes of Winter, a Colonial Marine that is part of a search and rescue team sent to investigate the USS Sulaco in search of Ellen Ripley, Corporal Dwayne Hicks, and the rest of the missing Marines who were dispatched to LV-426. The Sulaco, LV-426, and the derelict alien spacecraft from Alien all serve as environments in the game, as well as other locations yet to be detailed.
Gearbox has stated that they were invited to speak with Ridley Scott and view the script for his "Alien prequel" Prometheus, insinuating that there may be connections or references to the events of Prometheus in Aliens: Colonial Marines.

I liked the gameplay, found the multiplayer fun, I'm fine with the graphics (personally I don't think they look all that bad), I loved the weapon and character customization and I found the campaign relatively enjoyable. There, did I answer your question on why I have an opinion correctly? Just because the "demo" at E3 showed something different doesn't mean that it can't still be enjoyable.

RKan3 I think you're overlooking a big situation here. We have waited for YEARS for this game. We were promised excellent graphics, survival horror gameplay, FUNCTIONAL A.I, character development etc. But we got the exact opposite. The graphics were below average, the multiplayer was enjoyable to an extent, the campaign was repetiive and unienjoyable with a few guilty pleasures like fanserive, characters were wooden and boring, they ruined the story by bringing Hicks back FOR NO RELEVANT REASON. Obviously you're not a hardcore Alien franchise fan like me but this was a real kick to the bollocks for me. The fact that Gearbox made this game half halfheartedly is bad enough. So it's not a matter of what we got is exceptional. It's what we did not bargain for.

Although I'm an alien/Predator/ Terminator aficionado I did find some of the game mechanics disappointing. The aiming was atrocious and some of the weapons like the flame thrower and grenades weren't effective. I like the storyline even though it created some discontinuity but hey I got what I paid. Paid $10 for from Amazon.

After watching this walkthrough i have to say the game is pretty good, even for a shooting gallery game. It was fun to watch at times, while other times it was just too painful to watch Brad fire wildly without hitting anything or wondering where the next objective is after the NPC's just told him. I loved how he kept saying "WHAAAT?!" every time he did something stupid. Then again watching casual players fumble about in FPS games is very amusing. About the gameplay: 1. Don't complain about the graphics if you are gonna play on XBOX. This console was not designed for AAA games with solid gfx and special fx. Watching the texture rendering times was horrible. I don't understand how people play games on XBOX and are content about the quality of the experience. If u wanna make a good looking gameplay video, play it on PC. 2. If you don't install the game you are going to get large loading times. 3. When you find interesting landmarks in levels, spend a few seconds to admire them. Like when you found the Pilot on the Origin ship u didn't even look at it for 2 seconds. That just pissed me off because it was the most interesting landmark in this game. 4. Do a little research about the story of a game before u start a gameplay series. Your lack of knowledge about the Alien universe was frustrating. Then again you did fit the profile of a rookie marine who doesn't know shit about shit, so that was refreshing. All in all it was a decent experience. Thank you for making this series.

This game looks like absolute shit compared to Isolation. One of the things i like about Isolation is the great dialogue and the fact you are surviving by yourself. So there isn't other people in the game you are having to deal with or be around. It is just you and the aliens ....and synthetics :)

For the most part of the game you're encountering only 1 and the same Alien(the one that got out from Foster) , the others will pop out in the last chapters near the end .

the reason this game got so much hate is when it was showed of in a demo. The aliens in the demo had amazing AI using air ducts to get to the player, using flank tactics, ect. however when the full game was released it lost most of that wonderful AI for almost no reason. Obviously there are other reasons but I don't think they matter too much

That's a very bad ending,the queen finale was like an anticlimax. If this game was a movie,it would be worse than the first AVP film. As a diehard Alien buff I wouldn't consider this part of the canon, its too half brained compared to the four Alien movies & Prometheus.

Armored Titan One of the main reasons why I hated it is because *I am a huge Alien/Aliens fan!* This game was such a total wasted opportunity for what could have been an amazing Alien game. The first true Colonial Marines video game! A direct continuation of the Aliens film! ....And it ended up a broken piece of shit. And the worst part is the game's terrible story (which fucks up continuity with it's shitty writing) is apparently supposed to be canon in Alien lore. So, not only does it slap us fans right in the face, it also ends up taking a huge shit on the Alien film itself. Seriously. Just fuck off and die, Gearbox.
