Aliens: Colonial Marines is a video game developed by Gearbox Software and published by Sega for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Wii U and Xbox 360. It is the third Aliens title that Sega has produced: the first was Aliens vs. Predator in 2010, and the second was Aliens Infestation in 2011. Events will take place after the death of Ellen Ripley in Alien3, with the USCMC sending a new detachment of marines to investigate the incident on LV-426, leading them to the ruined colony of Hadley's Hope, the abandoned USS Sulaco and the Derelict Ship on the planet's surface. Another location rumoured as appearing in the game, at least in early drafts, is Fiorina 161, although it remains to be seen if this has actually been included in the final release.
Aliens: Colonial Marines is a sci-fi/horror first-person shooter which puts the player in the role of a United States Colonial Marine as seen in the film Aliens. The player will have access to iconic weapons from the movie such as the Flamethrower, Pulse Rifle, Smartgun, pistol, RPGs, and robot sentry turrets. Players will also be able to use welding torches to seal doors and motion trackers to detect unseen enemies.
In 2179 a USCM force was dispatched on board the USS Sulaco to the Hadley's Hope on LV-426 to destroy a Xenomorph infestation.
All contact with the Sulaco and its crew was lost.
The USCM dispatched the USS Sephora with a battalion sized force and a full compliment of surface bound nuclear warheads to secure the situation once and for all.
Described as a true sequel to James Cameron's film, the story of Aliens: Colonial Marines takes place after the events of the third film Alien3. Much of the main plot was written by re-imagined Battlestar Galactica writers Bradley Thompson and David Weddle. The story is told through the eyes of Winter, a Colonial Marine that is part of a search and rescue team sent to investigate the USS Sulaco in search of Ellen Ripley, Corporal Dwayne Hicks, and the rest of the missing Marines who were dispatched to LV-426. The Sulaco, LV-426, and the derelict alien spacecraft from Alien all serve as environments in the game, as well as other locations yet to be detailed.
Gearbox has stated that they were invited to speak with Ridley Scott and view the script for his "Alien prequel" Prometheus, insinuating that there may be connections or references to the events of Prometheus in Aliens: Colonial Marines.

***** Yeah it would be cool. I did replay through Aliens C-marines again on the hardest settings and it was still far to easy. If there was a really hard setting that at the very least could have made it worth a play through. For me the main thing i did not like was the Aliens themselves, they were pathetic, how they behaved, how they looked, and there simply wasn't enough of em. I thought all the in game weapons were pretty spot on though, if you turn the volume up. I'm a big fan of Aliens v predator 3. I know lots of people didn't like that game either, but on toughest settings its pretty good. Its worth owning just for the Survivor mode. I play that a lot. The Tempest D,L,C, pack has a great map in it where you're outside in the rain. Survivor mode really works because the aliens just keep coming and growing in numbers until you can't hold them off any longer. The aliens themselves are well animated, move well, and sound great too. At least they actually run at you, lol. unlike in Aliens C-marines

Did anyone make the connection between this and the game Aliens vs Predator (2010). At the end of the Alien campaign, 6 (the alien you play as) is captured and taken onto a ship, where the cutscene reveals the bodies of the crew on the transport in that very hanger in this game. At the end of the cutscene, we see that 6 has become a queen and so the Alien queen here is 6. Think about this. Cool.

Yeah, I also think the game is crap but the multiplayer is kind of fun although broken when you play the xenos. The multiplayer is not even made by gbx so it explains why it's better... All in all the game is not as bad as people make it out to be, but it's a huge missed opportunity considering how easily it could have been made right with the source material available. Randy Pitchford did a complete 180 on this one when he said that this game is not like those quick cash grabs that licenced games usually are. Because it's evident that this project started serious but down the line of borderlands success became an afterthought and received exactly the lackluster treatment so often seen in games that rely on licenced sales of famous ip's. Michael Biehn in an interview confirmed that there was no passion in the collaboration with the team making the game.

Thankfully Alien Isolation while not perfect, did justice to the source material, saving the franchise from being doomed in the eyes of the consumer. Too bad it's sales were heavily affected by people being cheated on colonial Marines and simply not trust that an alien game could be any good.

I just finished Alien Isolation, and I was extremely surprised how much I enjoyed it. I'm a huge fan of the movies. And isolation captures the feels of the first movie. Where as this one seems like it does a good job of replicating the sequel movie. Definitely wanna play this.

A:CM wasn't just bad, it was am outright lie. A lie! Everything they promised was completely thrown away over the how ever many years of development, and Randy Pitchford kept saying, hey man, we love Aliens, we respect the franchise, this is going to be our love letter to Aliens and Aliens fans! And then it launched and no. No, it was not. It was a slap to the face to waiting Aliens fans. There's a difference between supporting a company, mind you, and trusting a company. I'm willing to support Gearbox. But I'm far less inclined to trust Gearbox now. I'm less inclined to listen when Randy Pitchford next says he's going to give fans what they've asked for. I'm less inclined to pre-order a game of theirs. Trust between Gearbox and its audience has been breached... and that takes a hell of a long-ass time to build back up.

I suppose i should correct myself now, its not a burst gun, but there is a burst setting, as it was said in the movie aliens, someone did say the rifles where on low ammo, so use short controled bursts...so lets just assume this has a mode to switch from auto fire to burst, though im not sure why you cant use the gun in full auto mode...

Of course the machine gun is supposed to sound like that, haven´t you seen Aliens? That's the fucking sound of the fucking machine gun (and one of my favorite futuristic weapons sound, btw). And yes, it's after both, aliens and alien3, but it's more accurate to say it's after aliens, because fucking Dwayne Hicks' call is what starts the mission... isn't it? yeah I was actually INCREDIBLY impressed with the sound assets in this game. The rifle sounds exactly like it did in the movie. Along with the motion tracker pings, It's pretty much the audio calling card of the franchise and they hit the nail on the head.

it was a good game, what was bad was the performance from their graphic engine, specially on console. damn i remember how ugly was water drop on screen when it was raining in the game. multiplayer was a joke, their alien versus human was boring. isolation have better graphic perf, but seem to be boring...

slythers I personally loved isolation but that's because survival horror is my fav. Genre. However from sales point of view I agree that an action title in the style of aliens would have sold a lot better if it had been done by creative assembly. Gearbox simply was not the right developers for acm. In that sense it's sad to see how badly Sega managed it. In my eyes they are equally responsible as they could have pulled out of the deal with gbx when the project hit the shits and collab with another studio. They just gave too much into gbx, even when they could see it's not turning out well.

Alien Isolation and Aliens Colonial Marines are 2 of the best games ever. They both sold well over a million copies. If ACM was on PS4 and Xbox One, it would have sold 2 million copies. I played and dominated both and hold all Playstation world records. The ACM DLC campaign is awesome and I was thrilled to see the missing story behind Hicks. The ACM weapons were a dream come true because they were never in any other Alien franchise game until ACM. They were only mentioned in the movie Aliens. Alien Isolation is a perfect side story from the movie Alien. The voice acting from the lady who played Amanda Ripley is perfect. The sound of Alien Isolation is the most intense and heart pumping sound that I've ever experienced in games or movies.

I'm currently looking at an issue of X360 Magazine from April 2008 for Aliens: Colonial Marines. This game should have been released before AVP years ago, this is just a failed project released 5 years later unfinished. To avoid disappointment just download the Demo, it's free and better quality. All negative comments aside, TheRadBrad does not disappoint when it comes a decent walkthrough.
