Literally my first 2 games in my life were Doom and Aliens trilogy on the original PS1. I was about 8 years old and too scared to play them alone. I had to wait for my dad to get home from work and we would play together. Absolute CORE memories! He died in 2021 and watching this brought me all the feels. Bravo.

Engine is not an issue, this would not run on any PC of the era. It just doesn't take any restrictions under consideration so it's hard to call it a doom mod at this point.

Check out Selaco. It's a game actually released in GZDoom engine that has pretty insane graphics. It's still got a few more episodes to be released too (Like the old days, episodes lol)

Would you recommend Dark Descent? This one can still scare, those facehuggers can provide plently of jumpscares and I did have a few playthroughs so knew the layout. Those turrets were essential to stop swarms.

@U42R Dark Descent had a pretty tight grip on my pulse, yeah I'd recommend it. Core gameplay's solid, it tells a good story, and the music and sounds are straight out of 1986.

Correction, it's a GZDoom mod, not a "Doom 2" mod. When it requires a specific engine to play, it's no longer a mod for the base game.

Doom + Doom 2? I use the WAD from that. You will need GZDoom and ZDL as well to run the mod, at least that's what I use.

@@seancampbell4904 It's probably best to consult a tutorial video to install them. Here's a brief runthrough; In ZDL, GZdoom goes to the source port box, the Doom 2 WAD to the IWADs box and the external files box is where you place the mods.

Gearbox just dumped it out & moved on to Borderlands 2, after the backlash with the trailer suckering fans they got sued by Sega for false advertising. There is a cool documentary right here on KZbin that goes into the deceptive tactics Gearbox used with shareholders & fans alike.*
