Didn't even bother to listen, 800,000 super carriers is just an impossibly large number to build and crew, so don't hold any hope for the story making any more sense

It's not really out of the realm of possibilities. This is far in the future, supposedly when humans would have established colony worlds. So the population would be much bigger than it is now. Right now, in real time with our current human population, there are over 280,000 ships in the world's oceans. So, it's rather easy to imagine a future where we might have that many in space. Also, it's fiction.
