@Elaston3 жыл бұрын
So, I’ve commented about this on some of your other posts. It’s still not clear what you did with the power switch connectors. In this video, you definitely hooked them up to the password clear jumper, and you saw it turn on for a second., and shut off (I’m assuming this is what is supposed to happens when you jump those pins). There is info out there about the pins you actually need to bridge - they on the front LED header. So my question is, are you still using the password clear pins for the power switch? You sort of addressed this at the end. I’m guessing that’s why it is doing the weird reboots at startup.

Yes, sorry. currently have the power switch plugged into what is label reset on the mobo. the case didn't come with instructions for the front button plugs and of course Dell doens't have a proper mobo diagram lol. There are two things I wonder if you could clarify. First, I’ve seen online that without the front IO and the Alienware power switch there are issues at start up. How did you solve these problems? Secondly, how did you end up hooking those RGB fans up at the end? In the video you say they won’t work and will use just the standard fans, you talk about where you’ll put the mesh and then the video cuts and you suddenly have the RGB fans hooked up and running. You say you’re using a SATA cable. Did you get power by tricking the system into think it is powering a hard drive?

with regards to power switch, you just hook up 2 pin pow sw cable to pins 4 and 5 of LED CON port on mobo. Thats how i was able to boot the system without Alienware proprietary power switch when i swapped the cases.

First, thanks for the effort. I do appreciate it. Second, I am a bit disappointed at the results. I was hoping you would use a more conventional case, because it is unclear if the motherboard and power supply would fit in a regular case. It seems that the best bet would be to replace the case, motherboard, power supply, and maybe the cooler. Then move the CPU, GPU, and memory to the motherboard for installation into the new case. I see have seen several stripped Alienware computers on eBay recently, so I guess that is what some are doing.

1. Why on earth did you keep the Aio fan stock? Looks like you even kept the enclosure on? The noise of the top fan (especially) is the worst thing about that case. Replace it with a noctua fan. Or the new Phanteks T30, if that's compatible. 2. You can easily run 2 GPU's on that board, in the original case even, if you take out the hdd brackets underneath. I had it mining 2 rtx 3060's since these cards need x8 PCie slots to run un-nerfed. The slots underneath it are not in the way as the GPU sits away from the mobo a bit. 3. From the looks of it the mobo restrictions make for way too much of a hassle. You can get a decent B550 Micro ATX board for about 50,- nowadays, sounds like a better option here. 4. The sound of that 3080 is quite horrible when the fans ramp up. I would go for a better airflow case for that GPU, preferably with the option for fans underneath your GPU and just more space for airflow. If you're going to put in this much effort you might as well squeeze out every little bit of performance and noise reduction out of it. 5. Thanks for doing this. This PC is pretty horrible imo, the noise especially. This video shows you are probably better off spending a little extra and getting/building something a bit more versatile and quiet with less of a hassle. Even if you change the case, the fans, the mobo and PSU, you are still left with a noisy VRAM overheating GPU.

I bought an open box 1000w evga g+ for $125 (open box, excellent condition) I don’t even think it was taken out of the box. Icue capellix 150 AIO cooler for $167, Asus 550-f for $179, lian li dynamic for $139. It’s definitely quieter and 15+ degrees Celsius cooler. @@ASOGAMERS word, this will likely be a project I do down the line then. It’s a double edged sword, but I purchased a 3 year protection plan with my r10 from micro center so I think it may be better for me to just stick with what I got until everything is out of warranty and then eventually mess with the setup. My cpu has the Alienware liquid cooler so that def helps reduce noise. It’s just hard to make a system that is as quiet as say a new generation console, but that’s a cookie cutter experience that is worth the trade off for a better gaming experience. You created a lovely video and PC. Us DIYers are always up to a good challenge. Before I begin a new project, I consider three considerations: Time, Effort, and Cost. I have some comments concerning your build. When I paint small parts, I use a Lazy Susan. To ensure I don't over-tighten screws, I use an EK-Loop Torque Screwdriver - 0.6Nm. I take photos of everything, internal and external, before disassembling the old case. I that photos of where the cables attach and place address labels on the wires. I use one of the older type ice cube trays to hold small parts and fasteners. I use Verco tape to make sure the tray doesn't move. Before I place the components into the tray, I label the ice containers so that I know where the contents go. I put a bath towel on the workbench in case I drop a small fastener so it won't end up on the floor. If a screw falls into a hard-to-reach recess on the case, I keep a telescoping wand with a magnetic head handy. Since your head can block light and make seeing the inside of the case difficult, I wear an LED headband. I hope some of my comments might assist you and others when doing a project like this.

@TheMustachioedJames8 ай бұрын
- The AIO upgrade you talk about is not as straightforward as you might think, at least as far as the R11 is concerned. From what I understand, the mobo will throw a BIOS error if it's not talking to a Corsair ML120 Pro (no RGB, no LED), and the front lower intake fan will also throw BIOS errors if it doesn't like your fan selection (I believe it prefers, again, the Corsair over Noctua and others and may not like anything over 2400 RPM). The other caveat with the Corsair is, although it may be a noise upgrade, it actually doesn't push as much air as the stock fans and the upgrade may end up actually lowering cooling performance. A few mods I've seen on this chassis have opted for two replacement fans on the AIO in push/pull using a splitter for power. Otherwise, thanks for the thorough instructions, as I bought my R11 at the height of the shortage/aftermath of COVID because it was one of very few places you could get a 3070ti.

Just wondering if you solved some of the issues permanently. I have an R11 and thinking about doing a case swap. But I'd like to know how you fixed some of the boot issues, or are you still dealing with them?
@lordfarquaad17012 жыл бұрын
Boot issues? Like it won’t power on completely? I had the issue and just updated it completely the bios The bios fixed it for me. Try to connect it to direct power outlet if it’s not working

Will it work on a Lian Li case? I have the Aurora R12 and I want to change the case, it limits me a lot to ventilation

Thank you, you can't believe how much this video helped. I'm glad you made this video since you are still the first and only person to tackle it with a complete walk-through. Appreciate it.

I change out the ram to 32 but the speed remains at 4800 instead of 5200??

Awesome job dude!! Both on the teardown/build as well as the video editng! Would you know if any of the PCIe slots (not used by the GPU) are Gen 4.0? I added a gen4 ssd via a pcie adaptor (like you did), however, im only getting gen3 speeds. Dell tech support claims that they are indeed 4.0 but im quite doubtful. I wanna know if I'll need to retiurn this expensive gen 4 ssd, and get a gen3 instead.

This video, and some of your others has convinced me to go back and build my own systems again. I have cases and 1200 watt power supplies and liquid cooling. A new MB, and use the Processor , NVMe drives and GPU from the R11 and retire the chassis. In my experience the proprietary MB and Bios for Alienware are so finicky that even changing a fan upsets it.

You did a great job! I dont have an Aurora but I been thinking of doing an open case similar to your new one for my H510 Elite since its a hotbox in there.

Hey if anyone wants to do this just know that you need to buy a new wifi card because the wifi card inside of it needs antennas to work and the ones in the Alienware aurora r11 are attatched directly to the case and the wifi won’t work without it apart from that great video
@Eif6f6ebv3udyd Жыл бұрын

After doing my aurora 10 swap whichever fan is in the cpu fan spot is spinning a 100 percent. I couldn’t find fan speed options in the bios. You said you could change it with the motherboard settings. Could you tell me how to do it plz.

I’ve seen other ppl post builds on this online but this is the first video I’ve seen for it. Wondering if anyone has simply put the front panel from the Alienware onto the new case to not get those errors??
@josephkarl70803 жыл бұрын
Working on removing alienware front panel now... using an atx case... mb and ps fit fine. Mb uses proprietary connections. They look like miniature or laptop connections.
@fernandomartinez-vo3zu3 жыл бұрын
@@josephkarl7080 do you plan on posting your build on KZbin or Reddit ? I’m going to try to swap my case 1:1 including the front panel. Seems like that’s what gives everyone errors.
