I love this review, I bought Aurora R13 with the RTX 3090. this made me feel alot better about what i've done. I was a console player but since then moved on and haven't desired to move back. I was first using a 1440p alienware 27" monitor. But since I've bumped it up to a Samsung Odyssey Ark 1st gen. For good measure and I'm not the smartest man in the world when it comes to gaming values. But after I watched this review from start to finish. I really liked and enjoyed the non bs review and helpful tactile tips. I'm going to keep following and hopeful that my future gaming and electronic consumerism are still sound strong. Thank you, so very much for being apart of the community. ❤

Just saw this review. Really enjoyed it. As a console gamer my whole life, I've been looking into getting a pc for quite some time. I recently made the plunge and went prebuilt. Purchased an Aurora R15 with an AMD Ryzen 9 7900X cpu and 4090 gpu. Have been really enjoying it. I honestly can't believe how good this thing is. Runs like a dream. Have yet to get a monitor setup yet, but I will soon. Until then, I'll just have to settle for my C1 OLED.

@cheapshot7244 thanks! I know it is one of the best of the best (at least for a few more months). I've been doing a lot of research for a while now, and the insane deal I got for the prebuit was unreal. I couldn't pass it up. Imagine getting a 4090 for the price of a 4070 super. That's about how good of a deal I'm talking.

I just bought this pc based in part on this review. Dell had a smoking deal on this 4090 setup… $2400, plus a 10% off coupon, along with $70 in Dell rewards and $375 cashback from Rakuten. Can’t wait to put this to work on my streams over my current 2080 Super rig. Thanks!

Just pulled the trigger on this 4090 model since they have it on sale for $3k. Feels like a great deal. Was between the LG C4 and the 32" Alienware OLED screen. Both very close in price. Went with the C4 and hoping I enjoy more as my gaming has moved more towards single player immersion.

I am still running an Aurora R9, and my top priority is low noise. I don’t game at all, but I’m a software engineer and also a podcaster, so video and audio work is heavy as well as code compilation, builds, and automated tests. GPU strain is moderate, but I/O speeds are my current limiting factor. I’m interested in this R16 because of its strength in noise. My office is my recording studio and a loud PC has no place there. I would never be able to build my own PC and get it quieter than the R16, so that’s my reason to go prebuilt.

Hey there. I've been a fan of the Alienware line of PCs for a long time. If you know their limitations going into the purchase, they are great. I personally like picking up the older units (R10 / R12) and setting them with decent CPUs/GPUs. You can buy them for a fraction of the cost of new and there's nothing at all wrong with a 5600x and a 3060 12gb for most use cases including content creation and games. I've been looking at the new R16 and almost pulled the trigger a couple of times on one. I'm excited to see Dell take things in a better direction. I don't mind the proprietary nature of things. They've improved cooling and noise and that's what was missing on the older units. I look forward to getting an R16 at some point. I'm currently running a 12900K / RTX 4070 TI custom rig. I mostly use it for amin and content creation work so it's more than adequate. But I'm still looking forward to the R16 being on my desk at some point in time. Thanks for the great video. Cheers Rick

Phenomenal review. I purchased the R16 on a whim from a DELL advertisement last night. Glancing at the specs for CPU, GPU, M.2 capacity, and RAM specs.....I scratched my head when I saw the DELL online price! Like....is this a http site or https?! LOL. I ordered. Literally watched to see the USB Gen Specs for the rear, but was blown away by your presentation and in depth Desktop review. Again, phenomenal, keep it up nerd brother!

Alienware is the best imo. Not just talking about the PC but the WARRANTY is amazing. They'll literally drive to your house and fix your computer no matter where you live in the US. When my SSD went out, they sent me two SSDs for whatever reason. Replaced my screen for free when my dog bumped into it and a few other minor things that got fixed. Like the RGB lights going out on the front of the laptop. Plus I like aliens.

Dell is too stubborn to make a good case. Even back when I was in the IT world, HP servers and workstations were levels above Dell in design, quality and a look, especially on the case. HP back in 2003, 20 years ago used a Coolermaster Case for their gaming PC, it was called the X09 and I built my first gaming PC copying what they did. Maybe some day Dell will spend the money and make a decent gaming PC with a case from Corsair or Coolermaster?

@@moop111 Alienware cases has always looked good, that is their thing. But the r16, r15, plus al the older models, and all dell workstation pc's use the same case. They just change out the plastics/outer shell of the case. On the inside it has been the same for 10-15 years. And that limits them alot. in fan suport, how many and witch size fans you can fit, cable management, storage suport. Same with AIO suport, max one 240 ( when my Phanteks p600s case fits one 420 in front plus one 360 on top). Also with the motherbords, witch all have to be proprietary. So yes, I love how it looks, and have always liked the way alienware system have looked, BUT, that does not change the fact that it is still an 15 year old case that has been given a new plastic shell and made to look fresh. But is still horibly outdated. PS I have dyslexia so sorry for all the spelling mistakes.

Absolutely beautiful pc. It handles any game i run at 150+ fps, **ON ULTRA GRAPHICS** It's really easy to clean, and despite what many people say, if you maintain it, it really isn't loud at all. Obviously dust intake, etc would make it louder In general it's worth the money (I added a 2080 TI and intel i9, worth the investment)

Finally someone who has something good to say about this setup. I'm a gamer who has no interest in building a computer and who doesn't care if the motherboard has usb ports attached to it, or I can't buy another power supply or upgrade my motherboard. Dell has the best warranty of any of them and provides the best choice of options. When Corsair or any of the other pre-built computer companies drive 300 km. to my house to replace a motherboard under warranty like Dell did, I'll take a look at them. Till then.....I'm with Alienware.

just wanted to drop a note and say that you really nailed it when it comes to people like myself who just go the pre built route. Back in the day, when my eyes worked 100% and I had the time and energy, taking apart, building, upgrading my computers(even back in the old Commodore Amiga days) was enjoyable. Now, I'm paying for the convivence and for someone else to figure out and build a modern PC for me. Hence, having watched all your pre built review vids to date(great stuff) as i am currently in the market to upgrade my Alienware R9, to see if I should just stick with Alienware as they have never failed me in the past, or take the plunge and give someone else a shot!

Totally agree. I liked that section of the video. I don't get why people make so much of this. The same logic would apply to many things in life- house cleaning, gardening, bringing lunch to work instead of eating out, making coffee at home. We all make these choices for ourselves. For me building or upgrading would be a chore not a joy. Others enjoys it. Great.

Exact specs are going to depend on what your doing but in general AMD is kicking Intel in everything: better performance per watt (more zoom for less power), overall performance (the E cores are only about 40% of a P core. Stack enough and they have some heavy duty power, but suddenly '24 cores' looks a bit less impressive when the 8 P cores beat the 16 E cores. And AMD is all 'P core'. And if your mostly gaming, the X3D is silly good. No one benchmarks with the OG 5800X3D because it sits around the middle of the pack. So about on par with chips 2 generations newer and on a 5+ year old socket. Its sort of too good. And the new ones are even better. With an exception or 2, at worst they are tied with Intel and the rest of the AMD CPUs. They can be quite a bit better. As for where to get one? X3D builds are a bit rare but look at not Alienware. Too many 'good reviews' that are "of the review system provided to us by Dell". Aka If we don't like your review, you don't get another review sample. When you do find a legitimate "we paid $$$ for this", suddenly the tune changes: AW is lucky to tie, it often falls well short of 'off the shelf' hardware. Then pair with 'knows what they are doing' and $1800 Alienware gets clobbered by $1800 'Custom' build. Strictly "it works as it should out of the box, no fiddling at all required" is quite rare. Builders are a little too loose and sloppy with builds (a 'test' may be to run a benchmark: CPU @ 100C and 4k points short "what seems to be the problem?" Umm your thermal throttling the heck out of the system? Check the cooler/paste?) But if your willing to do a '5 minute poke around': check XMP, shift a fan, etc. then a good system in a box isn't too hard to find. I think Skytek got good marks, ABS (except they are Newegg house brand, blachk). Gamers Nexus has a good series with 'works to spec out of the box' as the pass/fail criteria. Worth at least skimming that playlist. Nothing wrong with going prebuilt, just not Alienware.

Yeeah ive had several of their laptops but no desktops. Their laptops have always been tanks and the most powerful compared to the competition. But their desktops seem cheaply made with cheap proprietary internals, which i have a problem with. I got their AW Graphics amplifier and they dont support it anymore. So theyre not perfect, but i still like their laptops.

Did you use the FURY BEAST RGB 64GB DDR5-5600 Dual Channel RAM Kit, 2x 32GB, C40, Black (Part #KF556C40BBAK2-64)? Will it work for the R16 Intel 14th gen i9 @ 5600mhz out of the box? The manual doesn't say it supports 64GB 5600mhz ram setup. This video didn't mention the size and speed of the Fury Beast kit that was used either. Is XMP profile now enabled in the latest bios?

I really am puzzled at not maintaining an interior lighting. Btw at 10:10, if you study the charts I think it’s worth noting CyberPower, AW, etc. traded CPU temps at a more-than-adequate 75c for substantially lower GPU thermals which is considerably better for gaming than the other extreme. At 10:47 it’s no surprise the AW sits dead middle for 4K which is why it has excellent 4K performance. It’s by design to be a 4K targeted system.

Would this be better for performance over all having separate files 1 drive for gaming 1 for miscellaneous? or all files in 1 drive? (Or add in the sata as 2nd storage be more useful?) Gamer's Nexus took theirs apart and really did a great job showing all the problems with Alienware (still). Alienware has officially exited their strange yet bold designs. I prefer the R15 and prior models, and before that I preferred the old/ original Area 51s that were sort of 1940s looking and then the one after that, in 2010, the Area 51 ALX with the i7 980 Core Extreme CPUs. They had the slanted/ vented tops that looked really neat. Nowadays they look uninteresting and basic...like I can build one of these using any damn MATX case at NewEgg. They've become so traditional looking. I'm happy with my R15/ 4080 and plan to keep the case going as long as I can lol. I'll even eventually see if it can fit an R17 or 18 mobo in it, when comes time to upgrade. Alienware does weird best and I'm going to miss that. Even the 2015 Area 51 was neat and different. Whichever one that was that was octagonal shaped.

The most clever thing that dell has done on r15 and 16 is they move the CPU radiator to the top instead of in the rear. Therefore CPU won't eat up all the hot exhaust from GPU. It cost how many years to make them realize that?

@anthonylifrieri7 yeah I would definitely go with a new rig from an R8. A 4080 will not get the full benefits of the latest PCIe 5.0 technology since the R8 has PCIe gen 3. Also a 4080 would not pair well with a 9700k

@@anthonylifrieri7 Real world difference between gen3 and gen4 for a GPU: 2, maybe 3%. To put that in terms of FPS, your going from 120 to maybe 123. It will show up on benchmarks, its probably going to be hanging around in the manger of error. And given the 40 series are Gen4 cards, putting them in a gen5 slot will do nothing. There is a slight concern due to Dell only wiring the slots in the pre R13 with x8, so you will be loosing a little. PCIe bandwidth doubles if you double the lanes or go up a generation. So Gen3x16=Gen4x8. So a Gen4x16 GPU running at Gen3x8 is taking a double hit. Not much, Probably ~5%, not 10%. Its also going to matter what your doing. High resolution (1440, better 4k) with maxed out setting (better full raytracing) and even a 4090 is going to chug. Even if you pair it with a MUCH older CPU. Also on the topic of selling people new systems on 'the new bigger number', aka PCIe 4/5/whatever. In terms of storage gen 4 drives are not that much better than gen3 drives. Yes the bandwidth doubled, but the real limiting factor is the SSD controller and how it handles random IO. That really hasn't gotten better. Benchmarks for that is rare, but a well built high end system shows ~1.3s (gen4) vs ~1.7s (gen3) load times with direct storage. Its easy to see in a benchmark if you zoom in a bunch with the number and the bars right next to each other. Real world? Good SSD go ZOom! So no real issues with the core hardware, issues from Alienware: case size (they are small inside) and the PSU (4080 isn't as bad as the 3090, but they still chug power) 850W? Also cooling. Power in = heat out, and those cases and airflow...
