I was a tech lead at Amazon with a principal engineer that was doing some of the things you talked about. From the lower level engineers its an awful experience, we would invite our pe to meetings and they would decline or leave early. Our questions never got answered, he never really understood what we were even working on. He got high ratings by playing politics not by providing value. I dont know quite how well that strategy really works outside of Amazon to be honest. An Amazon pe is kind of a perfect role for a person to fade away and act busy in.

I hate to say this but we are all just players. And the problem is the game not the player.

OH yeah you have to keep in mind this guy came from Amazon. It's a toxic cesspit. The real world doesn't always work that way. So glad I didn't even up going there. If I hadn't gotten another offer, I'd probably be in Zon hell.

Thank you for mentioning your wife in the video. During the whole video I was thinking about probably your wife helps you a lot, and it was very sweet and very thoughful that you mentioned her. My mom is a very big reason for my father's success but he never mentions her, that is a shame.

Luck is where preparation and opportunity meet. This is what my father taught me so that is actual advice we can prepare and always be on the lookout for opportunities.

Your videos are priceless. Thank you. I’m a faang senior swe but I still struggle with time / energy management and juggling side projects. Trading money for time is good advice but cooking is a personal hobby for me so I like doing it. However it’s important not to waste too much time doing these routine tasks. I realized that cooking is a luxury for me and sometimes it’s not worth it or practical to do it every day. Sometimes I’d spend 2 hours in the kitchen then be exhausted after everything is cleaned up and put away. Meal prep in advance and eat at work if possible.

Crazy timing - I'm exactly there with the side hustles and work and I was working on a side project before going to work TODAY I've reached similar but not-as-well-formed conclusions, so it's incredibly helpful to see them like this Thanks a lot!

Everytime you say "My goal is to help 1 million people", aligns me back to what I am suppose to do. When I first heard you say it, I learned a very important lesson on how to set goals. Now everytime I hear it, it serves as a reminder. What other such gems have helped you do what you do that is very actionable?

james clear offers great advice for stuff like this. - try to make a plan with small, achievable, concrete goals - do stuff little by little and consistently - if you fail, analyse why and restart with small goals and actions

It is so true. Able to get a good partner makes biggest difference in success and failure (burned out personal life & left with smelly bag at the end of life)... But who said life is a fair game? 😔

Before watching video: my guesses are 1) have enough money to not feel perpetual, impending doom of hustle modernity 2) have life partner to help. edit: lmfao pretty much hit the nail on the head, except I forgot to add 3) execute on popular productivity techniques we all know. I'm just giving real feedback here. I watch your channel because I also seek to 'engineer' my life. I have read atomic habits and deep work like everyone else that is interested in productivity hacking. I might just not be your proper audience, but a lot of this is borderline insulting fluff. It was about 7m in before you got to any real substance and that was after an advertisement. A couple of your videos have come off this way. I have to unsub when videos feel like a waste of my time.

@@bigbigdog I didn't insult his hustle, but I'm also not here just to waste time. Like I said, maybe I'm not his target audience but I did expect more technical and nuanced content from 'A Life Engineered'. I mostly wanted a glimpse into big tech from someone with a lot of experience, not popular productivity hacks.

Well first you need a job where you can work only 35-40 hours and not get fired. At my job if I work only 40 hours a week, I will be late on my tasks and get fired.

I'm questioning your remark with respect to a "normal" person allocates 80% of their conscious effort towards work and only 20% to personal life. That feels more towards unhealthy work/life balance. Did I misunderstand that?
@calebhensley1267
@calebhensley1267 4 ай бұрын
@@ImperiousVideos that’s what he’s saying, when he says “normal”I think he means “average”, indicating that you simply have to go out of your way to plan for and create a better balance.
