you would be better off counting 16 links. marking them with tipex then a dot the same on the gear of the cam. put the chain and tensioner, chain together on the cams on the bench, then assemble both cams chain and tensioner together, you said to put the camshafts in but then took them back out to put the chain on, also it helps alot to have the cam tensioner holding tool

Much easier to deal with the cams and chain and tensioner and link count if you have the tensioner compression tool in place when you're doing that, and do it all on a bench, off the head. Get it all lined up and drop it all in at the same time. The link count and alignment marks on the cam usually drop in correctly the first time that way.

I hate to say it, but it’s very likely that the exhaust cam is off by one tooth, but could be the intake too. Lining up those two sprockets the way you did without the tensioner compression tool, as well as counting the links between the two dots on the gear teeth, will likely end up with it being one tooth off. Get the special tool, compress the tensioner, have the marks straight up, and make sure the link count between the two designated sprocket teeth is correct. Same engine, the whole thing, the cam chain is one tooth off, and how nj short cutted the fix, without the right tool.

It’s hard to find these sometimes, would be nice if there was an entire catalog of every car. I haven’t found that yet but I’m still looking.

Do to this do you HAVE to remove the head? My intake cam is at the 1 and my exhaust cam is at the 12. Could this cause a no start?

There's no way your car should run in the first place. But if your timing is that far off you may have bent valves.

Absurdly so wrong I'm embarrassed to comment. You are required to have 16 links in between both marks. Actually go watch a video with someone who knows how to do this so you won't bend your valves.
