Great video, thanks! One VERY IMPORTANT step that should be addressed in my opinion is the AutoStar "Site" - Latitude - Longitude frustrations that some users experience. Your phone will give you "Decimal Degrees" (D.D.), however the telescope will only accept "Degrees, Minutes, Seconds" (D.M.S.) or to be more specific, just Degrees and Minutes (D.M.). Any value over "60" (Minutes) will give you a beeping warning and will just not work, and this info is not in the user manual. Eg : 45.75° North - 108.50° West (D.D.) from your phone or google maps, will need to be entered into the scope's AutoStar as 45° 45' North - 108° 30' West (D.M.). If your site happens to coincidentally have a DD value of less than 60, then your autostar WILL NOT track accurately UNTIL the DMS conversion is done. The math is easy enough to work out (75/100)x60 = 45 & (50/100)x60 = 30, but there are also numerous websites that can do this conversion for you. I hope this is helpful!

Hey! I'm from the Southern Hemisphere and I work with a LX90, how could I align it? You talk about "point to north", should I just point to South and locate stars from the southern hemisphere?

The problem with the Meade ETX-70ΑΤ that I have is that it does not have a viewfinder so I am having a lot of trouble aligning the stars with the main scope

You can install a 3rd party red dot piggybacked on the tube.

Thanks very much ! Quick feedback question: For e.g. the 12 " LX 200, the HORIZONTAL ORIENTATION of the "CONTROL PANEL" with its cables is NOT ESSENTIAL - right ? Thanks for a brief reply -THX !

Hi there. I have owned the classic LX200 since 1997. I've just been observing all this time with 2-inch eyepieces. I have been getting into DSO astrophotography in the last few years and found polar alignment as a necessary procedure. I have not successfully aligned the LX200 with the super heavy wedge. I would come very close but still not enough accuracy for any exposure longer than 2 minutes. I am incorporating an Off-Axis Guider into the equation and use PHD2. But I still would like to perfect polar alignment on its own with wedge adjustments first before attempting power tools. Most videos online on this subject have been vague and tend to ramble on without substance. I'd like to see a proper polar alignment produced as clearly and explained as thoroughly as this video. Would even be nicer to compare the standard, drift, and iterative methods. Thank you.

I was interested in a 12" LX850 until customer support hung up on me. It seems that getting information about this scope is impossible. I don't think Meade is doing anything to help restore confidence in them. I was hoping they would be at NEAF.

Do these telescopes track as well or will you have to adjust to start on target?
@lazervision26023 жыл бұрын
All goto telescopes track. Once you select an object and it locks onto it, it will track it as long as it is in the viewable sky.

Awesome video. I have a Meade DS-2114ATS telescope. The controller screen is out. I'm going to buy a the Audiostar controller. The upcoming solar eclipse is my viewing goal. How to set up this system in the daytime? There will be no visible stars to align.

You didn't say how to move the scope to center the alignment stars. Should it be pushed around by hand?

Well, having a ATX90 and for 12 years does not work.. they are made for northern parts of the world, not for South America where I live. The go to is going down looking at the floor.. waist of money.. if you know how to correct, much appreciated a reply.
