Just wanted to point out the pots inside my radio that may be similar to yours if you have one.
I love these simple, excellent receive, rugged CB radio. No wonder the Jeep community used them for so long before switching to GMRS.

Yeah , I know. When I was green with cb and not a ham I looked into the mods. But now I’m a ham. And only use CB for 5 miles for local I stick with the 4 watts system. I really don’t need anything more on fm or am and the 12 watts limit on SSB. When you’re a ham DX talking is so much easier. And honestly I usually use 100 watts or less on the ham bands. Mostly less. But like I said with 11. Running 4 watts on AM or FM. I see nothing wrong with adjusting the modulation to 90-95 percent. Most stock radios modulation is set around 78-85 percent. But that is just what I have experienced. It’s good to have a NanoVNA and or oscilloscope if you plan on adjusting modulation. So you don’t accidentally flattop your RF wave. Nobody wants to hear a splatter box radio out there. And there are plenty of them. Sometimes not even bothering with adjusting is the way to go as well. Cause you’ll still sound great. 73. The TX Power doesnt adjust modge, it adjust the led 4 light meter on the front of the radio. Just an FYI. You can turn it all the way up or all the way down. Only changes the amout of lights you light up when modging. Not the actual modge out of the radio.

But yes L203 will adjust deadkey wattage

But if you put the radio on a power meter when adjusting, you can see that the dead key will go up or down. Unfortunately, I do not have a oscilloscope to adjust modulation that’s the equipment that would be needed to make sure you are not flat topping.

@@4Serviceplan nope it’s a stock radio. It’s about 11 years old so maybe they have changed something. I’m pretty sure they have made them in multiple different countries

PSA never stick your fingers in a open radio when the power is to the radio. This radio was not powered and caps should of been discharged. But extreme harm can come to one who meddles with electricity.

I have the same radio and lately it started receiving intermittently. I transmit fine, what could be the reason?

Could be the rf gain pot, check your antenna connections inside and out just to make sure. Not really sure what else

Same as the 510 only difference is 520 has rf gain adjustment on front of radio to reduce skip if you run open squelch 😊
