@@HerondalesAngel That is because Ben doesn't really play the villain right from the beginning, but the antagonist and they are not the same. I'll give you an example of what I mean: the antagonist is the character that opposes the protagonist, but that is a circumstance (for example in this show Aleksander opposes Alina because he wants to save his people not because he wants to destroy her) while the villain is set on destroying the protagonist (in Batman, Joker wants Batman dead). I don't know if you read the books, but this is one of the main differences the show brought in, changing the villain to an antagonist. The main role of the antagonist is to help the protagonist grow through different trials. The antagonist can be a person, nature its self, etc.. In the show Ben is playing the antagonist that grows to be the villain. Actually this is how he kind of plays the villains and this is why they grow on us. Sorry for the long comment! ☺️

This was brilliant!!! Oh man, I've got goosebumps. I genuinely don't understand how Alina and the Darkling aren't together. They are friggin soulmates, darkness and light, yin and yang. Hell, even Ben Barnes said it himself. Just because Mal is the good guy does not mean he and Alina belong together. The Darkling and Alina they defy each other, they challenge each other, it's so interesting. Yes, the Darkling is manipulative and he is violent, and it can become scary, but that's what he was taught in order to survive, in order to get Grisha to where they are. I mean tbh I think Zlatan is more of a bastard, letting Fjerdans in, so they can raid the docks and kidnap and kill Grisha, no wonder the Darkling wants to kill them. If the Fold was gone there's no stopping the Ravkans, Shu Han, Fjerdans etc from repeating history again with a mass slaughter of Grisha. Throughout the decades the Darkling has only had himself for company, to make decisions, and he's become colder and crueller because well, of time. With Alina, he doesn't feel alone anymore, he feels like he could spend forever with her. That moment where she touches his hand and the light just exploded, his face! His face said it all. It's like he's saying I've finally found someone, and Alina could really be his balance. I feel like when she said to him that he didn't give her a choice, neither did she. When Baghra took her, she should've went back and gotten the truth out of the Darkling, she knows him better than bloody Baghra, he would've told her I think, and she could decide from there. She doesn't get how much the Grisha had to suffer and maybe he could've told her that so she could understand. I feel like he really wants to protect Alina as she is the only one like him, and, if they got the chance, the other side would try to kill her. I swear, there is literally so much potential with these two they're really interesting and complex characters. I hope Netflix realises because God knows I'm going to fucking lose it if they don't.

I genuinly believe that the showrunners had a deeper meaning when making the Darkling more soft in the show than in the books. I am pretty sure they are going for a character arc and that they keep their options open for Alina and Darkling to be endgame. (I haven't read the books so I don't know how close the first season stuck to the original source, but the resonance of the book fans was quite good since the show seems to come off with a modern feminist touch - so maybe we will not get the ending of the third book.) I agree to everything you say. The Darkling is a really deep character which is one of the hardest things to do as a writer. To create villains is the easiest thing, but to create good villains - powerful ones, manipulative ones, ones that we still love because they have a human touch - is really hard. The casting of Ben Barnes of course does serve the show very well; he delivers every line with so much passion, every view at Alina with so much admiration and love - his search for the one person that will live as long as he does and could become his equal is over... Ben Barnes himself is a powerful cast. I can't wait for season two even though it seems like they are gonna go for a dark Darkling now. And of course there will be Nicolaj and Mal so I'm not so sure if we Darklina shippers get that many scenes as we would hope for

Nice video as usual. The song goes well with Aleksander and Alina. The series gives full meaning to the characters. Ben Barnes gives us a perfect and deep Darkling. Can't wait for season 2 to see what it will inspire you. Belle vidéo comme d'habitude. La chanson va bien à Aleksander et Alina. La série donne tout son sens aux personnages. Ben Barnes nous donne un Darkling parfait et profond. Vivement la saison 2 pour voir ce qu'elle t'inspirera.

I love it. Darklina is my OTP in the book. But i hate how the show makes him the obvious bad guy cause while reading i had the feeling of him really wanting to be with Alina and to share everything with her. But he is to broken to trust in her right now. I wished and hoped that the show would concentrate more on this hidden Part of him. But i love the vibes of them
@vergissmeinnicht_16922 жыл бұрын
Well, I didn't read the books and from the very first moment on Ben Barnes appeared on the screen I KNEW he wanted Alina for for than just her powers. He was keen to protect her and she said just about all the right things to give him some comfort even though she coudln't possibly understand what he has gone through for centuries. So I don't know how the books are handeling those two - but as I said, I don't know them and I felt his admiration and love towards her every second in the series. (Even though it can be that this isn't due to the writers but due to Ben Barnes.) He was the obvious bad guy to me because this is how this genre works - but I still was a Darklina shipper from minute one because he's fucking ADORABLE the whole time.
