Olympic Champion Alina Zagitova figure skates to Dear Evan Hansen's "Requiem"
This program is one near and dear to my heart. From the instance I first watched Alina's new gala exhibition, I fell in love with the program. I thought that the performance could likely fit with tons of other beautiful songs, and lo and behold - I tried one of my favorite songs from Dear Evan Hansen and was pleasantly surprised by how well it fit. By virtue of simply her constant movement + transitions, along with the perfect placement of those jumps and spins, and that SPIRAL, I knew I had to share it with others.
Originally, I actually dubbed this to Alina's 2019 NHK performance, but that was quickly blocked in many countries, including the USA, Canada, Japan, and China among others. I ultimately decided to redo it with an unblocked performance so that the video could reach a wider audience. If you are not currently watching this video from any of those countries listed above, you might be able to watch the better quality version here: • Alina Zagitova - REQUI... . Otherwise, thank you for watching! Whether you came here as a FS fan or as a Dear Evan Hansen fan, I hope you enjoyed. :)

ABOUT THE SKATER: Alina ZAGITOVA, best known for being the 2nd youngest lady to ever win the ladies' single figure skating gold medal at the Winter Olympics at 15yo, is now a 17yo figure skater representing Russia. Her accomplishments include winning the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics ladies' single event, the Figure Skating World Championships in 2019, and being the youngest lady (and only one of two) to ever complete the "Career Super Grand Slam" or "Super Slam" in Ladies' Single Figure Skating, winning every major junior- and senior- level international competition throughout her career. She is currently taking a break from figure skating and the 2019-2020 season.

ABOUT THE SONG: "REQUIEM" (solo version sung here by Mallory Bechtel) is a song from the stage musical "Dear Evan Hansen," which made its Broadway debut in December 2016 to critical acclaim. The musical details the story of a 16 year old teenager, Evan Hansen, with social anxiety disorder, who is swept up in a fabricated lie of his own making, regarding his friendship between a deceased (through suicide) classmate--all because he yearns to form a connection with his peers and with the classmate's family. Since then, the musical has gone on to win an accolade of awards, including "Best Musical" and "Best Score," at the 71st Tony Awards, among its 9 nominations and 6 total wins. The musical is currently still being produced on Broadway, along with a National Tour, and a more recent West End production.
