This looks wonderful! I'm an (almost) 50 year-old woman and I can't seem to get camping out of my head. Unfortunately my husband isn't keen so I've been looking at options I could do on my own. I've considered tent camping, but I'd really like something like this so much better. It's encouraging to see how well it all went for you. I think I'm going to start a A-liner savings account and maybe in a year or two I'll be out on the road too!

Hello there and thanks for posting! Single 51 yo female here. Been tent camping all my life. Just did my first solo trip this summer and it was great! I just recently started considering upgrading from a tent to an Aliner. I'm a bit apprehensive about towing one and the maintenance on all the systems. I do know the basics but need to learn more. I have a full size Ford van that would pull one easily and serves as my rec vehicle...able to put my kayak, bike and all my camping gear in. Thanks so much for posting! Didn't realize there was a whole community of single, over 50, camping women out there!

I have camped my whole life, I am 56 and single with grown kids. , so looking forward to to being on my own!! I have never towed a trailer, but so ready to do it!! You're doing great! Just a few tips... Put some wire sheathing around your power cable going to the car. If it rubs then just the sheath gets damaged. It's cheap, maybe $10 for 10 feet. Also, there are usually plenty of holes through your vehicle frame that aren't used for anything. Add an eye-bolt to connect your breakaway cable. Try moving your gray water tank a few feet over so it's downhill, it'll drain better and not back up into your sink. Open the power vent a bit at night and put your fan on the lowest setting and it'll cut down the condensation.
@ruthtrips73912 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tips! They are always welcome. I’ve learned a lot since my maiden voyage but your tip on the the wire sheath is a new one. I will also look around under my car for a place to put an eyebolt!!!! Thanks 🙏🏻 Happy camping!

I am just getting my first suv (Corolla Cross Hybrid) in a few days. In my mind I want to be able to take trips during the week up the California Coast from the SF Bay area, up to Oregon and out to Denver. I will be going solo. I love the idea of the A liner. I like that it is flat but pops up with a hard top. I was looking at a 2006 used one that looked very clean and has updates in 2023 on a lot of the bigger things. It was $7800. I'm not sure if that is a lot or not. Biggest hurdle besides $ is fear of flying! I'm just scared to do corners, traffic, park for groceries etc. That really is my biggest issue.
@ruthtrips7391Ай бұрын
Hi, I understand your fears. I felt them too. As far as corners, I really can’t tell a difference when towing mine. You can see it but it’s so lightweight. Parking isn’t too bad in grocery stores because the lots are so big you can usually just pull through a space and take up two perpendicularly. Then you don’t have to back out. You do have to practice parking though. And it takes practice! But it can be learned. I did it so you can too! I paid $7500 for my 2010 in 2021. Mine was in almost new condition and I still felt like I overpaid but love it so much it was totally worth it. Just be sure to have a good look around to make sure there’s no water damage anywhere. I wish you the best of luck!!!

I know that it's been some months ago since you made this and I just came across this as I'm researching getting an A-liner and learning how to set it up. I just bought a used pop-up camper a couple of weeks ago with the canvas pull out bunks only to discover after the fact that it was going to be too much trouble and difficulty setting up on my own. I appreciate your video. I'm hoping the A-liner will be easier. It looks like it. And it's nice to see another solo female traveler doing it. BTW next time landscape mode. You have the same floor plan I'm considering. The microfiber cloth is a great idea for the condensation but to reach the high areas I think I would need to put it on one of those Swiffer handles.

ruthtrips ! How you practice backup with trailer? Very hard for me
@ruthtrips73913 жыл бұрын
Yelena I hooked her up and drove around my block and practiced backing her into my driveway MANY MANY times! I’m not going to lie, it was frustrating, but I was determined to learn it for myself. I watched all the men videos on backing up a trailer. None of those really helped but one lady said she learned by watching her side mirrors, when backing up turn towards the mirror you want the trailer OUT of. That’s is the only advice that I retained and use every time. I will make a video on back up 😊 Don’t give up. Just keep practicing and remember to get out and look.

Thank you for sharing. I’ve been lookin at Aliners lately. Scout Lite and Ranger 10 in particular. I have a 2000lb towing capacity. I really appreciate you doing this video. I learned alot and I actually feel pretty confident now that the Aliner is the right fit for me. The Ranger 10 has all the bells and whistles and the Scout Lite has basically none. With the Scout Lite I like the fact that the trailer would require very minimal maintenance. I’d have to purchase my own fridge, heater, portable water container and camping stove as it doesn’t come with any of those. But it does come with an optional air conditioner and optional high wind assist. I also really can’t handle any cold. The main reason I would want the Ranger 10 is for the built in heater. Also I am a bells and whistles type of person so I’m concerned that I’ll be unhappy with the Aliner Scout Lite and wish that I would have purchased the Aliner Ranger 10. Any feedback on that would be helpful. Thanks Again.
@ruthtrips739111 ай бұрын
Hi Erica, thanks for the positive feedback! Now you have a big decision to make. You could go either way, but I’ll give you my experience and maybe it will help you decide. It’s nice having the fridge, stove, running water and heater. I used them all the first few times I took her out. And sometimes still do. There really isn’t a lot of maintenance required. Sometimes it’s nice to be self contained and not have to pack everything separately. However, over time I ended up getting a Little Buddy heater because it’s so much quieter than the furnace. I bring my Coleman campstove to set up on a picnic table so I don’t have the cooking mess inside, and an electric ice chest and Bluetti charging station to keep my refrigerator stuff outside the trailer for convenience and not constantly tracking in and out. Basically, I love to camp. I love setting up my picnic area and cooking outside. Having everything inside is STILL nice for those times I’m traveling to places that don’t have water, electricity, or picnic areas, like when I go visit family and park in their yard 😊 If you can get it and not use it I think it’s better than needing it and not having it 👍🏻 I’m sure you’ll do your research and make the best decision for you. Happy camping!

The breakaway cable should be slack, but shorter than the chains. If the hitch happens to come off the ball, you would want the breakaway cable to activate the brakes just before the chains get tight....

After watching further, we also had condensation in our Aliner. We ran the fantastic fan while also running heater and that helped with the condensation.... another pro trip for you, if you are camping with hook-ups save your propane and buy a small electric space heater...

Thanks for the feedback Dwight, I did buy a small electric heater, I haven’t tested it yet to see if it trips the breaker yet!

I’ve been out once with my Aliner. These videos have been quite helpful for me! I’d like to see how you do the front stabilizers (jacks) thanks
@ruthtrips73912 жыл бұрын
Sandy that’s awesome to hear!!! Glad I could help. My Aliner didn’t come with front stabilizing jacks so I purchased the little jack stands, they are metal but shaped like cones. They come in a 2-pack on Amazon. I just place them in front under the frame and twist the bolt into place. They work great! Happy camping!

Hi Jessy, thank you so much for the kind words! No, I’m not part of the Facebook page. I was for a bit and loved all the female support but felt there was too much emphasis on making camping look-good. I would rather keep my focus on the feel good and be more practical, you know what I mean? I love the remodeled trailers and glamorous camp setups but I just want to keep it simple and enjoy nature 🙏🏻

Hi Ruth. Great tips! I found the black cap adaptor that fits to the gray water drain, but can you please tell me where you purchased the bladder & the black tube? Going crazy trying to search for it. Would make my camping trip so much easier. Thank you, Susan
@ruthtrips73912 жыл бұрын
Hi Susan, would you believe it came with the trailer? I bought the Aliner from a couple in Washington that bought it from Apache Trailer Sales. They may have got it there at the RV store. I really don’t use it anymore after I saw another camper using one and the visual was disgusting, not sure what they were putting down their sink but the bladder is clear so now I prefer a small discreet 2 gallon bucket to drain my sink. It’s actually much easier. Happy camping!

Great video! Just went to a Rv Show here in WA, and fell in love with the Aliners. Have you resolved the condensation issue? If so, what was the solution?
@ruthtrips73912 жыл бұрын
Thank you Beth, I only had the condensation that one time while camping during freezing temps. I would probably lower the heat and crack the window a little wider. I didn’t know how to control the furnace back then, being on my very first trip out, but I do now! Thanks for watching 😊

Thank you so much Mish, my Ford Edge came from the factory with the tow package so it was set up to tow up to 3500lbs. I didn’t have to do any mods. Very lucky to have it.

@@ruthtrips7391 My Edge also came with the towing package🤔 I am going to have to see what that entails!! I know it has a hitch. A video explaining in-depth what a person needs to do to tow with a SUV would be helpful. I noticed you had chains that cross over and some kind of wire 🤣 I think I have a long way to go to figure this out. And, is there something under the Edge to hook up the tail lights for the camper? You are very inspirational!! Keep making videos! I think I binged-watched them all yesterday🤣🤣

Hey Ruth! I’m shopping for a A-liner now. I had a mini max little guy last year but hated pulling it. I also had to keep putting down the dinette to put to a bed. Are you in California too? I’m 55 yrs old and last year I pulled first time too. I think the A liner is a better choice for me and I have a new Honda Pilot already with the hitch so I’m just looking for my A-liner now. I like that I can drive and see normally out my back window while pulling it. I am headed up through Oregon and Washington in June so I’m wondering if it’s cheaper to buy in Washington with no sales tax. Or is that Oregon? Nice video!
@ruthtrips73912 жыл бұрын
Hi Mari! I’m in Oregon. I bought mine in Washington just because that was the only used Aliner I could find (and afford!) I found it on RV Trader. Good job being brave! It has never been my strong suit but the older I get the less I have to lose! I hope you find what you’re looking for! Happy camping!!!

Mari, I don't know about Ca, however I'm in Michigan and if I purchase any vehicle from another state, they hit me up for the sales tax from that other state, if it's titled out of that state. If you are titling it out of Washington, then I suppose you are fine. Let me know how it goes !

Crack a window for ventilation or get a small dehumidifier for the condensation

Do you still have this camper? How do you store yours between trips? I've seen a lot of debate on storing it popped up or closed down because of tension on the lift springs.
@ruthtrips73912 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes I keep her popped up inside my garage. I’ve heard the same things. I’m doing what I can to preserve the integrity of my Aliner frame 🙏🏻🍀. It’s a good question and I don’t know the answer. It makes sense to keep her up though. Good luck, happy camping n storing!

Yes, and thanks for watching. I keep it set up inside my garage, I’m very lucky to be able to do that. It definitely prevents stress on the springs.

I was wondering if you had to purchase a brake controller for your car? Also is the condensation something that happens with most Aliners and if so, how have you dealt with it over the months and other trips? Thanks so Much!
@ruthtrips73913 жыл бұрын
Great question Ken, the condensation only happened the one time when I camped during the cold weather and I used the heater. During the other trips it was warm so I slept with the windows open and didn’t see much condensation. As for a brake controller no, my Aliner is only 1100 lbs so I don’t use a brake controller. Happy camping!
@nickviner1225 Жыл бұрын
Re the brake controller I have just bought a 2010 aliner . I also bought an in van break controller, it stays in the avan . You have to mess around a bit to dial in the brake dial knob a little till you have the correct setting then leave it at that setting. Here in Australia it cost $120.00. This saves the cost of getting the car messed up with screws in your dashboard etc.

You open the valve on the propane tank too fast and you should always spray for leaks also before you fire anything up
