I always wondered why she only made one film. John Hughes films were huge, talking about a "big break"! I thought she was going to be the America's newest sweetheart after that debut, perhaps the next Shirley Temple! Her performance was better than average actually, she was a natural, I assumed she was an experienced child actor, had no singing was her first love, even tho she sung a little bit in it. Great movie. It's one of my favorites....I would've loved to have seen her in more films.

To answer your other comment, when she appeared as a contestant on The Voice, she talked about starring in Curly Sue, but said that acting wasn’t really her passion. She always wanted to be a singer.
