In an interview, Alison explains how she practices every day in an old abandoned wooden church near her home.; the longest she's ever gone without practicing is two weeks, once, several years ago; and that the nature of being a soloist is the constant travel alone and the inability to sustain a relationship (although she has "best friends all over the world"). She loves Haydn, and explains how Haydn wrote this piece to show off the versatility of a then-new musical instrument, one with valves!

We recently got a new 3 year old male dog but he is not causing any issues and is submissive to our older long term female dog..For many many years I was intimidated by the outstanding female musicians in various band I played. After all I was the first chair trumpet player, and they should know their place. I could easily play faster, higher, with pronounced statute and literally blow them out of the water. Took some 30 plus years till I realized they could play much better than I could. Perhaps not as loud, or high, but professionally better and deserve their recognition. I could ad lib and jam along with most bands I try with, but these girls can read any music and play what is written flawlessly. I only ever learned to "Jam" Can't read well. And quite honestly, at my best could not even play as well as them on my best days. Bravo you girl trumpet players!! I always thought you should stick to woodwinds. I was wrong!!!

She performed this piece brilliantly. Her top notes are simply exquisite, and her phrasing is wonderfully matched to the music. I sometimes wonder how good solo trumpet players' low notes are - they so often have to play as high as possible, do they get much practise down low? In any case, wonderful. I love the timbre of her trumpet for being so mellow - there was a pianissimo in her cadenza that sounded exactly like a flute.
