We have one Alpine named Annie and one Boer named Louise. Have not bred either one yet. They lay their heads on us for hugs and so loving. Couldn't live without them. I love your space! We love Chaffhay!

Love your video, especially the silly goats photo bombing in the background. ❤😂 I'm a middle-aged RN in the US, and I'm getting burned out dealing with humans for so many years. I dream of having a small goat dairy farm in Mexico before I get too old.

If you want yellow butter you can grind some dandelion flowers and mix it in your butter. When we were kids we would pick dandelion flowers and mother would mix it in for a fancy butter. That was the only thing that would stick to the butter to color it. I am 70 now so that was a few days ago. Lol

I've found the best mangers for sheep and goats uses a horse panel with 2"x4" openings for them to feed through. I have almost no waste compared to even the usual 4"x6".

This was so cool to watch! Raising goats is a long term goal of mine, but it seemed overwhelming. This video is so clear and articulated that I don't feel nervous anymore. Would it be possible for you to do a video on debudding (I think that's what you said) and cutting the hoofs? If you decide to bottle feed the newborn kids, how do you separate them from the mother? Do you use the mother's milk in the bottles or do you use a formula?
@Alisorganics2 ай бұрын
@@elizabethfriedrichsen4870 I honestly didn’t know how long I would raise goats. Once I got them, I knew it would be forever! I sure can do a video on disbudding and trimming hooves! When babies are born we clean them off and bottle feed within the first 30 minutes with their mother’s milk. I keep the babies in the inside part of the barn for a few nights, longer if it’s really cold, then introduce them back with the herd. They think we are mom at that point and look to us for their food. I keep all of the mornings milk for babies and night milk for us after a week. They get all the first weeks milk, as it has the colostrum. I don’t really like the formula, but If something were to happen to mom and I didn’t have another doe in milk, I would feed formula and I do keep some formula in the freezer, “just in case”.

Ali for your set up how much hay and grain do you buy each year per doe? I would like to build a similar set up and I am trying to calculate how big a hay shed I should build. In total I have about 2000 square feet for the goat yard, shed and hay shed. Thank you for sharing so openly with us. You are my inspiration.

We have chickens and we are dealing with the inevitable problem of excess roosters from each brood that hatches. Roosters are not happy to share and they become aggressive. The need to harvest excess roosters is my least favorite part of having chickens. Makes me wonder how you handle the need to breed your goats regularly to keep them in milk which means more goats. How do you manage this when you have all the goats you can handle?
