Outstanding - best cover of this song I've ever heard (which is a lot). But I expect nothing less from you mate, every song I've heard is incredible. Especially the RUSH covers, which is something very few people should ever try but you did a great job. Just great man, great. And THANK YOU. Lately it feels like the music died and not just losing Neil. Your work - it lifts my spirit. Thank you.

great pick! after listing to it for years in the 80s, this song about 15yrs ago eluded me constantly with no Shazam or Soundhound to help me sniff out the song name, or iTunes to collect simple minds songs, all i could ever hum and hear in my head was the groovy drum line with the lady singing the hay hays in the background...and then one crazy day about 10yrs ago(i still hadn't heard it on the radio since the 80s), that never ending loop of no lyrics and only melody opened up to ALIVE AND KICKING! ...and i was overjoyed! lol it was so crazy and cool. frustrating for years but cool to have the memory regenerate itself. side note: Don't You Forget About Me was instrumental in inspiring me to play drums. still one of the best groove drum lines.

No doubt its a great cover though 2 things slightly just slightly detract it from the original but then again this is their version & not Simple Minds, so good on you... As a fellow member of the Rythmn Section of a band it nails it, though the bass should be more prominent in this mix & drums are just too flat, especially the snare drum, as the drums should reverberate around that room & does not need to be held back by any dampening... The singer has a great voice as does the lovely backing singer & both hit the range of vocals needed but the lead singers voice is just too smooth & needs to be gruffier with a more raspy sound & tone, all the while still reaching the higher levels that a voice can reach... Definitely for a cover of one of the great late 70s & into the 80s onwards bands that not only did well in the UK/Europe but even broke into the American charts & I don't think there's any 80s movies by American Film Director " John Hughes " always had Simple Minds songs & of hit songs of that decade in every single movie... Even with my added very very slight detractions i'd give this cover an easy no brainer score of 10/10 as the other sound & the vocals aren't as simple as you'd think.. Yes most hit songs are constructed & written in quite an easy fashion but what made them stand out was how these solo acts performed with brilliant vocals & a very distinctive sound that you easily recognise that or any particular band because of the way had their own unique sound & in the thats how solo acts & bands become hit makers because only those solo acts or bands created a sound that was unique to them only & they have/had a very recognisable overall sound that was undeniably there's & this is what you needed to make it in the Music Industry, sure they are hundreds & thousands of acts from all the many decades could be called a rock band/funk,pop, jazz fusion or just a good old fashioned pop sound but it was always the solo acts & bands that fitted into their usual genres specific genre sound but it was their overall sound & delivery of their music that made them stand out from the rest of the pact & back when the Music Industry was this giant behemoth of a music making hit factory that we thought would need never end, it still meant that you could be a rock or a funk band but you better make it a progressive sound that is unique to the band you were in as thats just how the music industry worked as there were countless amounts of bands playing the same genre of music as so many other already established hit bands & hence those bands had to have their own signature sound that as soon as you heard about 30 to 60 seconds of their song you know exactly who that band was... Its such a pity that at least 2 generations of young music fans hsve missed out on all the many various so acts & bands i grew up listening to as the music industry is all but dead compared to its glory days of never ending amazing solo acts & bands in each new decade... Sure there are some new solo acts that have climbed to the top of this current version of the music industry but there definitely is not the massive amount of constantly brilliant solo acts & bands that were just too many that you couldn't put a number on the amount there was during each decade & onwards & now we have acts that are a mere shadow of the constantly ongoing brilliant solo acts & bands that were constantly discovered & signed to a record label but for those mere shadow of the amount of solo acts & bands that are still out there but in lesser numbers I say good one you & keep it up or music will vanish forever & will be spoken about fondly in the past tense as there no new acts keeping music alive... As for Simple Minds & being a fellow Scot I've seen Simple Minds alot of times back here in Glasgow Scotland & we knew the lads & lasses in these bands that were in these bands were going to be huge as they had a very distinctive/overall tight professional & polished sound that was uniquely theres just like other scottish bands like Big Country/Deacon Blue/Hue & Cry/Wet Wet Wet/Runrig/Texas/H20/Gun & many more... During the mid 70s into the 80s the UK owned the Charts & the music scene as far as the sheer amount of various new genre making solo acts & bands that kept being discovered & coming out of a small country like the UK... Im not saying they were better than American or European bands but instead for such a small country the UK has given birth to so many varied & eclectic range of bands with their own style than any other country & thats quite something for a such small country... I know everyone tends to think of America as the mecca of music & hence why many European acts wanted to break into the US Charts but this was s 2 fold attack because of USA's huge audience & their love of music that came out of the USA that even certain Americans hadn't listened to yet or judt didnt like it, like the Blues ... As Country & Western music is basically white cultures own take of the Blues... Country & Western basically came from old Celtic songs that travelled with settlers moving from Ireland & Scotland over to America & over time in was transformed in Country & Western music... Of course many of us in the UK loved the various artists & music through the decades that came out of America as mine come from their also but to define the sound of the mid 70s & 80s that evokes the sound & feelings we have of those times of the mid 70s & 80s i'd say you'd have to cross the pond to the UK as no other country at that time had such a large & diverse range of new sounds solo acts & bands... I love world music & that encompasses every country on the planet which includes many European acts that i dodnt speak or understand their language but thats the beautiful & amazing thing about music it crosses over/& transcends language/social & political barriers & brings so many cultures & countries together with the music that those within the music industry or just folks singing at get together can create... I never new the Italian language but i absolutely loved Luciano Pavarotti & that world of music going back to the Great Caruso/Mario Lanza & Montserrat Caballé & i'd always have ongoing (comical) arguments or strong opinions through many years with my late Uncle as he preferred & loved Placido Domingo & i loved Luciano Pavarotti & we go back.forth arguing as to who was the best & to outsiders outwith Scotland & Glasgow we've got a way of talking to each other as if we are ready to do battle & its hilarious to watch when you know this, but i've had friends from other countries see this happen & they figured murder was close by until i told them its fine as this is how we talk to each other & they are just having a normal chat together & the look on their faces when i said this was priceless... lol I also remember them asking how do you know the difference between friendly banter to that of violence breaking out, i said there would be no talking & just plain & simple old fashioned fighting until the Polis aka the Police arrived to try & prevent it from turning into a case of murder... What can i say as its not just the Irish that like a good fight yet they are known as the Fighting Irish but then i remembered that's where my family originally came from....lol Enough of that & back to music... I love that as much as i love the Blues & Country & Western music which is basically taken from the old Celtic Folk Music that travelled over to the USA via Irish & Scots colonists/pioneers & settlers who left the the British Empire of that time to leave their country men & women behind to start a new life in this new place the New Americas & so did many from all over Europe & the rest of the world... So before you grab your pitch forks & send out a posse of verbal onslaught my way, listen to what i say first carefully " I love all forms of music from all over the world, no matter what language or time it was born " In light of this still ongoing coronavirus outbreak stay safe and healthy wherever you are in this World.... Slainte .....
