Almost every country in the world treats juveniles who commit murder differently to the United States.
This is particularly true in Tennessee, where the state sentences juvenile offenders to a quasi-life sentence of 51 years.
Fault Lines investigates the case of Almeer Nance, convicted of felony murder for an armed robbery he took part in as a 16-year-old in 1996. He received a sentence of 51 years and has no meaningful opportunity to have a second chance in life to reconnect with his family.

@MIASTOWY REKIN The officer testified, on the stand and under oath that Mr. Nance had not invoked his right to a lawyer. Its in the transcript. Then the lawyer kept insisting that he get his notes. He judge ordered him to do it and whoops, his OWN NOTES said Mr. Nance had asked for an attorney. This is not opinion--its in the court transcript. The cop said one thing then when confronted with his own notes, said different.

Very well put together, and should be utilized to show the corruptness within the Police department. Officer's should be held to a higher standard when they break any rule of Law. I pray this Brother and all the youth that fall under this minimum sentencing of 51yrs.find relief through this story.

@@billwalton4571 I suggest you look at how other countries do it, especially the ones with lower crime rates then you. None of them sends sixteen year olds to prison for murder when they didn't pull the trigger. They made him responsible for something he simply didn't do. There's a big difference between carrying a gun and actually shooting it at a person. Anyone who has ever held one can testify to that. Human rights are for everyone, including prisoners of all kinds. They are inalienable. People can change, they can change a lot. Even adults can reform, especially those who were mostly a product of a bad environment. None of us exist on our own. I read your comments and all I see is anger and hate. Those two rarely lead to justice. Keeping this guy in prison is an injustice.

Normal country? When it comes to violent crime and sentencing I'll take our punitive measures over any other country in the west. This specific example I'm not 100% sure of and I don't like the 16 year olds getting enormous sentences but in general I definitely prefer our punitive sentencing when it comes to violent crime compared to Germany, Canada Great Britain Etc. Let someone close to you be murdered and see their killer get 15 years and then be paroled... you'll change your mind. Once again I'm not referring to this specific example

If you commit a crime or conceals a crime that results in the death of the victim whether you were the person who pulled the trigger or just someone who was there assisting, aiding and abetting or supporting in any meaningful manner, you're lucky to have a 51-year sentence as opposed to life without parole. Everything considered, this person did what he was convicted of. If it were me or mine who was killed, the sentence would be considered lenient.

I lost interest/sympathy when the race baiting began. The girl was sitting in the car, unarmed, when the 20 year old store manager was murdered. The Ameer guy was in the store and holding a gun. Furthermore, the psycho killer and Ameer were friends/associates. The conversation about how Psycho Robert had shot someone else earlier in the day, told Ameer what " I gotta get me some money" meant.

For me it’s not about race but more about the age and clearly juveniles that committed crimes even in 3rd world countries get better treatment than in Tennessee

In protesting my beloved Prophet in India, we gave life in the love of three young prophets of India. Inshallah will be the trial of this murder in Yoho period and the Hereafter. Allah gives you the high tenure of these brothers.

But they don't have these long sentences and that is why there is lower crime rate.
