I'm Romanian and i experienced the same exploitation when i emigrated in Western Europe in the early 2000 , together with my friends and cousins . The Lowest salary when worked hard labour in agriculture and construction with extra hours not payed . This problem exists throughout Western Europe and in the U.S and comes together with human trafficking and drug trafficking

Thanks for sheding light into this topic. More than ever, it's important to discuss this because of the rise of anti inmigrant nationalism across the global north, and the lack of opportunities in developing economies. Hundreds of thousands of migrants leave their families and loved ones behind for promises of a better life, and instead are faced with debt, discrimination and alienation, and exploitation.

I was very happy to see the news you published. I am also currently working in Romania. In the current situation, the service facilities as determined by the government are not provided to the workers coming from outside Romania. And in addition, many workers have been forced to return to their country and also have to go from this country to another country illegally because the employer did not make the temporary resident card of the workers on time..

I'm Romanian and I was actually shocked a couple years ago and I noticed the lowest end employees at music festivals were Nepalese guys. The shocking part was that they were being paid very very little money. But then again this same phenomena occurred and still occurs in the West as well. I worked for all sorts of companies in the UK, Austria, and Denmark and there's exploitation of foreigners everywhere. This is a broader problem that goes to the core of our society. Until we've fixed capitalism and inequality this is going to keep happening over and over again

Same in Malta, but we also have from South America, Africa, the Balkans, and some Ukrainians. They are the modern-day slaves that keep businesses running. The locals' advantage is that we work government jobs or positions where you need to be qualified, or good company or work schemes or business owners who rely on migrant workers for cheap labour and thus more profit. Adding to this, we live in our own country, and some of us don't have rent or even loans to pay.

According to the law of supply and demand, a labor shortage should lead to higher pay and better working conditions to attract workers. Perhaps the problem has more to do with modern day slavery and human trafficking?
@virupakshawalla573410 ай бұрын
That is why they bring immigrants to keep wages down by increasing supply
@Kalimdor199Menegroth10 ай бұрын
Yes, this is more of a case of some criminal organizations doing shady things. Higher pay in Romania has been the case for years, as a shortage of labor gave us workers more negotiating space. Basically companies need to rack up more attractive wages and better conditions, or extra benefits to keep us from leaving to the competition. However, the lower paid jobs are no longer being handled by many Romanians. So these are outsourced to foreigners. However, not every foreigner immigrant in Romania is going through this. These people fell into the schemes of some criminal organizations masquerading as intermediaries for Romanian job offers.

You forget a very important thing. We overtax productive people in order to subsidize the unproductive. And I'm not talking about pensioners. Romania (like most of the EU) could cut the number state employees in half.

Just so you know currently and for years now in Romania the Rromani don't pay taxes for the house and also receive allowances from which they survive. During ceausescus time they were equal in getting education and jobs because that's how his system worked everyone got schooled for free and got an assured job. Right now all the country is suffering economically because of Iliescu who killed Ceausescu on December 25th 1989, and he also ruined our economy sold our factories to foreigners who sold our machinery for scrap metal and left them in ruins. Unfortunately half of the Rromani people in my town that I see often don't look for a job and rely on child support. This is consistent with them getting a job at my exes factory ( in another city) getting the money for the whole month and only working for a week and using up his vacation for the rest of the month and then they come back and do the same thing again. I understand they were enslaved that was a long time ago but they also at least half of them lack the drive to work to have a better life, they don't pay taxes they rely on child support and sometimes don't feed their kids and make them beg because people take more pity on kids and they receive a lot. I've had like at least 10 instances where I or mom bought these kids food and they chowed down the food like they were starving and it's not exclusive to my city. There are also ngos working and educating those less fortunate right now so I am hoping the situation will get better for them all.

Almost all the World was aware of big workers exploitation during World Football Cup. Many people protested against these exploitations in Qatar! Haven't you seen?! On the other hand, information about Romania is (thinking about an European country) is hardly few. Here in South America we almost have NO information about Romania. So, in this sense, this video is HUGELY interesting.

@@emmabarbu7548 Not anymore though. Large section of the country have similar standard of living as many parts of Western Europe. Salaries seem small, but you have to take into account that they are adjusted based on cost of living. A lot of Romanians have the impression that Westerners are rich because of the wages they get there and the purchasing power they gain when they return back with the wage to Romania. But if they had to live there like the average Westerner, they would realize that the standard of living is not that different. As a Romanian, I have worked in 6 Western European states prior to returning to Romania. Italy, Spain, Germany, Belgium, UK and Denmark. When I returned with the money I saved to Romania from these places, I lived like a king. But the amount of money I earned there had little value if I had to live there like an ordinary citizen. I would be very poor.
@emmabarbu754810 ай бұрын
@@Kalimdor199Menegroth So you're saying Romania isn't poor, even though you worked abroad in order to have a good life here? Romanians spend a quarter of their income just on food, Austrians spend 10% for example. High prices, mediocre salaries
@Kalimdor199Menegroth10 ай бұрын
@@emmabarbu7548 It is no longer poor. I worked abroad about 15 years ago. And yeah, back then it was poor. Nowadays I pretty much live the same live I lived when I worked in London or Munich. As for that quarter, there are other reasons. Romanians love to stockpile food. A negative remnant from the food shortages and famine back in the 80s. We like to buy more than what we need. Which is not my case. And that explains why you see so many Romanians with carts full of food at supermarket.
