Absolutely brilliant help; I have now replaced my old spare tyre; with your clear and simple video. Bit more tricky putting tyre back onto carrier as unable to extend the carrier bars fully outside edge of caravan. So had to scramble part underneath to lower the new tyre into place for fixing

Great video, thank you - I can't understand why more caravan manufacturers didn't go with the Avondale idea of the spare wheel stored inside the caravan under a floor hatch. Much cleaner and easier all round!!

Yes...would be easier lots of motorhomes have in floor storage... However I know the automotive manufactures are taking spare wheels out of car boots... The fumes of the rubber is bad for your health... Im sure they could put a foam seal around it mind

Yes thanks for the great video, it's a stupid idea to start with. I know it's to keep the nose weight down. On thing to mention in case new caravaners are watching is the tool you used is to wind your legs down with & you wouldn't get enough torque on your wheel nuts using that. Being a new caravan you should have been supplied with a proper wheel brase & don't forget to use a torque wrench

That’s hugely helpful thank you. I have to say it’s yet another example of just how far away caravan designers are from user needs based design. Anybody who goes through your experience is a blooming hero - you have to buy a Jack and jacking point !!! That’s insane. Regardless of space, keeping it either in your car boot or locker where it’s clean and ready to go is the only reasonable solution until they start to design based on user need - rant over!

You are correct Chris I just checked mine and the previous owner had obviously hit something rendering mine totally unmovable. I had to cut it out with a grinder! After going through the whole tool box , at home I may add thank god, I managed to get the wheel of . It's now in the boot with all the fittings to replace if I need. But yeah utterly crap design and not anywhere near practical for the side of any road to be shaping at.

Great video for what is a ridiculous way of storing the spare wheel. If you had a nearside blowout you'd be struggling to get that wheel out from under the van. Mines in a wheel bag in the boot nice and dry ready to go and easy to check the pressure before you go away. I suspect on many older caravans with that system it's very unlikely the wheels been checked for years.

How Ironic. I had Kwik Fit come and fit two new tyres on the van today and I discussed how this works because I’ve never had to do it (luckily) so really useful video. The Kwik Fit Fitter did say though that it’s not easy, especially on an older van because it can be very hard to move the carrier if it’s not been moved for years. Also it’s fitted on the kerbside which means you have to jack it up to remove it. Thanks for sharing this, really helpful. 😊

Cheers hope it helped.... when you get 5 remove the wheel and spray some wd40 on it as its a nightmare to slide in and out and mine was a week old

No it’s a nightmare... wd49 on bars that slide in might help also try and stop them bending as you are pushing
