I feel so lucky to have grown up watching peak Warne. He was a once in a lifetime artist who single-handedly revived a dying art form, at least in Australia. So many kids tried to be the next Warne, none of them came even close, in terms of his mastery of flight, turn, dip, bounce, creativity, guile. Zampa is good at what he does. Rashid Khan is very good. But I miss the days of real leg spin test spells, of see-sawing battles between bat and ball about survival, where balls are pitched way out past leg stump, only to go whizzing by the off stump bail! Rest In Peace Warnie.

I remember Damien Martyn told a funny story how he was relaxing having a beer in a small town pub after one of these tests and was suddenly recognised, but everyone gathering around him wanted him to talk about Warne and what he's like. Laughing as he said a bloke with a 50odd test average was too boring and just didnt warrant attention by comparison to Warne.
