If you deny that, that means, that you don't have a clue, what a safe country is. And trust me that Eastern Europe is way safer, like Montana without guns and crazy ass cops , got it ?

The void of knowledge about Eastern European countries is not just an American thing. It is to be found in most western European countries as well. The iron curtain seperated us far too long and is still found in the mindset of far too many people on my side of the pond.

Hello from Switzerland, well I'm not even close to being a trained expert on Germany, but when it comes to the productivity of Germany (especially in comparison to the USA), do you really think that people who have studied work at the workbenches and production facilities? This is exactly where a big difference to the US comes into play: vocational training, by which I mean several years of training, both practical and theoretical. Such professionals, especially from Germany, Austria and Switzerland (I simply don't know about other nations, so I'll limit myself to these 3), are excellent professionals who know their field of work and everything that has to do with it very well. The result is not only productivity but also quality.

Of those 45, 2 is fixed weekend hollydays, and 3 more is fixed non weekend holidays only 6 is moving Holloway. And those have a 2/7 chans to get on a weekend. And of the other base vacation days, 10 of those are also on hollydays. For parental leave there is a simular situation. With 400 days parental leave. Of what 114 is weekend days and 90 is "minimum" days where you get something like 5%of your normal pay. To me it seams like the system is only made so complicated to make it hard to compare to other nations.

As German, I think all our direct neighbours are wonderful countries whwre you can easily live. Germanies highest attraction is the central position in Europe and the consequently easy accesibility to the most beautiful places around. You can spend a life to discolver the beauties of Germany alone, but you can upgrade that by taking advantage of this unique situation. From Munich, where I live, you take a train to Kopenhagen in 11h, to Amsterdamin 8h, to Straßburg in 4h, to Venice in 7h, to Vienna or Prague less than 4 h and you can go to the alps in less than 1 1/2h. So, within less a day, some time half a day, you cab reach out to your favourite destinatios for sailing, skiing, hiking or justv enjoying thec lifestyle of our neighboring coutnries. With a lot of free time, without a car or airplane, just taking the Bus in front of your home, the world is yours. This attitude of life is not to be outweighted by any means. Just a remark to the GDP figures. Those provide only very limited information without the corresponding Gini-coefficient (distribution of income), something what is not very popular in the USA, for some reason. For Ireland the GDP is very misleading, because the majority of the population does not benefit from the high average income, that remains in the hands of the international corporations, but have finally to pay the prices in their daily life for that. Saying that, being a tax haven (Luxemburg Liechtenstein, Channel Islands, Ireland... Delaware for the USA) is not a desirable form of government.

Good comment. I'm German, originally from Nürnberg, and I live in Switzerland. It's number 1 emigration country (Auswanderungsland) of Germans. I prefer Switzerland over Germany for a number of reasons (including the fact that I have more left over at the end of the month) and better infrastructure, there are lots of lakes for sailing and swimming and cities, and in 45 mins I can go skiing (by car, but that's ok). I also have German friends here and there are lots of German doctors here.

Why every foreigner visiting Poland wants to go to Warsaw? This is one of the most boring cities here. The only upsides would be the number of shops and food options. So, if you want to shop at Louis Vuitton you would go to Warsaw, but if you want nice architecture, history etc. you would go to places like Kraków, Wrocław, Gdańsk or maybe some smaller cities.

The thing is that Spain is in the same time zone as the eastern parts of Europe, which is very weird when it comes to daylight, because sun rises so late there, like 7-8 am, while it's like 5-6 in central or eastern Europe. That also means it sets later in the evening.

Do not underestimate the Vatican City. Its museums have got one of the most important and biggest collections in the world. St. Peter is a very massive church with pillars of 70 m circumference. Normally, a visit to the Vatican is a highlight of a trip to Rome. Thanks for your reaction!

I'm from the Czech Republic. We have 4 weeks of paid holidays by the law. You also have some sick days, but if you are sick, you go to the doctor and he'll give you a certificate of incapacity for work. The first 15 days it's like temporary sickness and it's paid by your employer, if it's longer than 15 days, the goverment pays you and it's about 60-70% of your average salary. Hope it makes sence.

Putting Vatican city last is wild. It's just basically a giant museum with some of the most important artworks in history. It is also the size of a large university campus and the reason why people don't live there is that you don't live on campus if you're not a student or faculty member either. And if you want to visit, there's plenty of hotels, hostels and air bnb's in Rome and you can just take a metro and walk to the Vatican. The cue to get in will take more time then going there.

England has 8 public holidays and always on Mondays (except Xmas, boxing day and new year) spain has 14 and often the public holiday falls on Tuesday and Thursday, so they have something they call meaning the day in the middle between the public holiday and the weekend is off work too. Spanish we are kings of holidays😅, if we don't have them we invent them.

@@MrPickyIt isn't "a myth". I suppose that people who are born there have adapted to it but, for someone used to "normal" days and nights, that can be a little disruptive. I remember my flight from France to NY: we were "following the sun" ... it was sunny in the cabin at 1, 3, 4, 5 ... European AM. Of course, that was just during the flight but I couldn't sleep and the jetlag somewhat ruined my first 2 days on the American Continent.

Having lived through the poverty of the 1970s and the not much better in the 1980s I think Irish people don't see where the money enters, and without it we would notice a big difference. Our country can just hand out 800 euro last year for electric and 600 this year. thats pretty handy. We have a very high life expentancy, so despite its problems the health system isn't so bad. The main problem is homelessness, and they really do need to put more money into that, which can be done i'm sure.

23:00 I find it strange how all Americans react to the paid holidays that exist in Europe. We don't even count them as days off. We simply don't work on those days, necessarily, and at the end of the month we receive the same, whether there are holidays or not, whether the month has 28, 30 or 31 days, or the working days are 20, or even 23. Holidays are a something different, we can choose when to take them off (in agreement with the employer, of course)

In Finland on top of the normal salary during the holidays we get the bonus holiday pay which is half of the normal salary. It's a nice bonus to start your vacation or in some cases you get it when you return to work after spending all your money. We also have around 10 paid bank holidays during the year on top of the annual 5 weeks paid holiday. When you turn 50 or 60 that's also paid day off work if it happens during the weekdays.

Dear Joel, I would say that in Europe all people your age can speak English. So it is no problem for you to travel through Europe. In Scandinavia, Hollywood films are not dubbed into the native language, so everyone there speaks almost perfect English. I live in Munich, which is roughly the same latitude as Seattle. But our weather is much better. In summer it is until 10 p.m. bright and pleasantly warm, so you can sit nicely in the beer garden.Last year I went on vacation to Spain and before that I was in Portugal. You can also have a wonderful time there. However, it can get very hot in midsummer. France is also beautiful, both the north and the south. We owe a lot to the Romans, who left many traces in Europe. Most of them can of course be seen in Italy. So, If you come to Europe, look for hostels and in Germany for youth hostels (= Jugendherberge), they are not that expensive.

I must add that in Portugal foreign films are also not dubbed. The Portuguese have always had this tendency to respect the original. The fact of appreciating and preserving culture in its own territory and in the territory of others shows exactly the type of freedom it offers, (it was the first country to abolish slavery and was also the first to end the death penalty) and in Deep down, what we all want is to be free to make choices and live with their consequences. To conclude, I will say that only experience, as something practical, conscious and familiar and therefore different for everyone, can show what is appropriate.

Where I live in Spain, it snows in winter and spring and we never reach 40 degrees, maybe the hottest day of the year is 35 degrees. That's not the reason for the break, that's the reason for the long vacation time in summer, however in my autonomous community we don't have that problem. The true reason is that we value the time to prepare a good meal with your family members if it's the case or have a break eating and chatting with your coworkers. It's basically to have a break in which you can actually disconect from work and do something that we value a lot, eating without stress. In Spain, the lunch is the most important meal in the day, so a lot of works have a break from 14:00 to 16:00 for eating. Not everyone does but at least there's practically always one hour from 14:00 to 15:00 or in some places even three from 13:30 to 16:30 but that's too much. Anyways, normal jobs have one hour and a half for eating.

Hi from Ireland. Having travelled extensively I have come to the conclusion that my own country, Ireland, is The Best Place on the planet. A little biased, I know😊, but truly it is full of charm, blending the ancient with the new seamlessly. The scenery is amazing as is the food and culture. Galway, (the city of the tribes) is unique and a city for young people. You can do a whole route called the wild Atlantic way, from Donegal, in the North right down the west coast, all the way to Cork n the south, and experience some of the most magical scenery and culture that you will ever meet. Or you can do The Ancient East route taking you through ancient sites like New Grange, older than the pyramids and Stone Henge or Glendalough, an ancient monastic ruins of a city with magnificent scenery. Visit The Skelligs, where Star Wars was filmed, or do The game of Thrones studio tour. Great hostels with great adventure centres are all over the country. Sure, like every other country you will come across bad things, but overall, Ireland is a country not to be missed. Cead Mile Failte {a hundred thousand welcomes) if you decide to come.

Romania is considered one of the richest countries in Europe for a reason or otherwise it wouldn't been invaded so many times throughout history and why it lost a lot of land throughout the centuries. A lot of gold and salt which are the highest in Europe among with agriculture and best biodiversity in Europe at the Danube delta. A lot of geniuses were born in Romania who invented and contributed a lot into society from science to aviation, auto industries and even health sector. Don't forget the real founder of cybernetic was from Romania. We also had the longest history with the first civilization being the Cucuteni-Trypillia in modern day Romania, Moldova and Ukraine which is highly debated among with the founders of sedentary life thanks to advance farming of their time especially practiced by the Dacians. The Dacians were among the most courageous and even feared by the Romans not just because of their falx but because they were highly disciplined. The only disease as one friend of mine put it is betrayal and lack of unity that holds Romania and especially Moldova back since we are one people. I am not sure if some Moldovans would agree but truly sharing a lot in common and Moldova is Romania. And corruption continues because of betrayal of the government which needs to be stopped ASAP.

I'd say every government is corrupt. As if any ruling body would put the needs of the people in front of their own power fantasies. They just act like it while f*cking us all from behind in secret. The only difference is how much they hide it - the countries with "no corruption" literally don't exist in my book they're just countries with well hidden corruption in actuality. If you keep people happy they won't notice everything but power corrupts so imho there isn't a government in any shape or form (democracy, monarchy, dictatorship you name it) without corruption.

Hi there! As a Spaniard, I can confirm one month of paid summer vacation, and we also have 14 holidays (also paid) throughout the year. Normally stores and shpoping mall close from 14h to 16h but not for "siesta", or maybe yes,😉 but it is because some stores close around 19h-20h. In Spain we have dinner around 21:30 - 10h. We also have public health care and when you get sick, you still get paid, this is long and complicated to explain, but even if you have cancer, the treatment is given by the public health care. I don't know much about the others, but our health care system is one of the best. As for the salary issue, it depends on your job and category. But yes, maybe are lower than in other countries, but maybe our cost of living is also cheaper than in other countries. It would have to be studied. As for the language, I think that in the Nordic countries you will have no problems, in the Netherlands they speak English as a second language. In France, Italy, Spain and Portugal, it depends on each person. In the Vatican City there is a lot of art and history.

While I currently live in Australia I was born in Finland, and I think the number 6 on this list is accurate or couple of spots too low. I would definitely recommend that you visit Finland. It is expensive but worth the visit. Unless you specifically want to see the northern lights I would recommend to visit in late June to early August timeframe. It is a beautiful country. A lot of forests, lakes (about 300,000), beautiful archipelago and what I miss the most, the white nights in the summer time when sun sets around 11 pm and rises at 2 am and there is a twilight in between, but it never gets dark. More in common than with other nations on the planet earth... As it is stated in the English Wikipedia "sometime used as a synonym" but unfortunately this is actually a "false" synonym. It is written like this in the English language because some English/American writers/scholars probably put it there because Iceland at that time was under the Kingdom of Denmark (or may even go back to the Kalmar Union). STILL it doesn't make Iceland Scandinavian or part of Scandinavia. The language is North Germanic and out of that it is West-Nordic. I'd suggest something if I may? I'm from Croatia and depending on what you're looking for in Europe, you might want to visit Czech, Poland, Hungary, Austria, Greece, and our country when it comes to Eastern Europe. Why? We have more historical places, we're more peaceful but still a lot of bloody history to explore. I myself have visited all these countries except Poland. Been to Italy, France, Spain, and UK. Netherlands is one of the places I'd like to visit next. I see you've been to Croatia, as a kid, but nevertheless. Visiting Warsaw is a really great idea. And Vienna. You'll learn a lot about our culture. If you're studying sociology and/or philosophy these are great places to visit, too. Cheers!

Dutchie here. At the company I work for I get 30 days paid holiday p.a. plus 3 extra "old age" days. I'm going on 60 ;-) Last year I wasn't able to take all my allocated leave for the year, so now I have 50 plus days to try and find time for. LOL! The problem is that there's no one able to fill in for me when I'm not in the office. Whatever doesn't get done will be waiting for me. All foreign movies and TV programmes, etc. have subtitles instead of being dubbed. English is taught at school from a young age. The Dutch are also well travelled. So, all in all, the Dutch are very familiar with how English sounds and how it is spoken with intonation and rhythm. On top of that the Dutch aren't shy to try. Generally speaking, of course.

Hi Joel,I am British,though have been living in Spain for the last 28years. I live in Gran Canaria,one of the Canary Islands,(Spain),off the coast of West Africa in the Atlantic.I work only 20 hours a week,and am still entitled to my 30 days holiday plus 14 public holidays a year. Also in Spain financial year is 14 months pay. An extra months pay in Summer,to enjoy Summer holidays,and an extra month at Christmas to help out. Though now this is normally incorporated,added to each month's pay,rather than 2 extra months. Work/life balance excellent,sunshine all year and no heating bills,because it's warm all year here. Interesting video, Europe is really something special. I do feel like Serbia deserved better than number 38, but then again we have Vatican at number 50 an Ireland at number 2 which is also a bit weird. Still it was nice to hear about some of the countries that I dont know much about.

Ive lived in Ireland all my life and i have travelled to numerous countries around the world. Ive never been to a country I'd prefer to live in than Ireland. However if you do visit , make sure you go outside of dublin as the countryside is amazing , even though i have lived in dublin all my life.

I watched this the other day. The order is all over the place, but it's subjective so whatever. As a Hungarian who hates the current government with every fiber of my being, I have to say that the 20 percent inflation he mentioned, while self-inflicted, is a one-off and not 'every year', like he said. Big difference. Anyway, if you take this video as a rando's opinion, it's fine. But I encourage you to do your own research. Because some of the other countries he had an unreasonably high opinion in my view.

My girlfriend is from Hungary (from close to Szeged), I'm German, and we live in Switzerland and she likes it much better than her home country (as far as income and life-quality goes and I like it better than Germany). She even has made some Hungarian friends here! Szép napot!

Hello! The video in question is not entirely accurate but not completely wrong as well. Context matters and in such a short video is hard to explain all the things that matter. I personally would put tiers on the countries for tourist or living there where highest tier would go to Western European (developed and famous) countries while below them would be other European Union members - while under the Western countries in terms of economic stability are still completely fine to visit or live. Expats videos covering those countries are much more detailed on many aspects and would suggest searching (and JP can even react to such video) for additional information. Then there are the non-EU members which vary a lot. Turkey and the other countries on the Balkans (non-EU members) are great to visit but not to live in general while not terrible. Also, customs and crime vary, and any tourist should be aware of the 'no-no' places or actions before visiting. Russia is actually not that bad but would not recommend living there unless you know what you are doing. Visiting the tourist destinations is completely safe as long as a person don't do political or social stunts. Some countries which are still under the Russian influence are a hard 'pass' for living but are O.K.-ish for tourism if you are aware of the dangers as laws and crime can be equally dangerous for oblivious visitors.

The creator actually picked a very balanced system of ranking them. And it is quite easy to replicate yourself - which makes it very transparent and easy to understand why. All of this utilizes the top famous and official lists and avoids all disputed or strange alternative rankings. And all individual ranks for a country are dealt with equally. So there is no weighting for specific factors or cherry picking of specific traits. Yes, there are factors, that are not taken into consideration, sure. But most of them (or all of them, as far as I can tell) are borderline / edgy with personal opinions and preferences (like climate, weather, sunlight hours per day, etc.). Of course, you should add your own preferences for yourself, but nobody should make a decission to pick a country to live there, just based on such lists anyway. This ranking is actually what you will get, when throwing all statistics (economy, GDP, growth rate, unemployment rate, happiness, safety, crime statistics, health statistics, corruption, debt, digitalization, internet speed (you could easily skip the last two, if this doesn't matter to you, but the creator decided to include them as well), etc. If you skip those, the list will be a bit different, but not too much (surprisingly).

@@dnocturn84 Actually a lot of the statistics if taken for face value are a terrible way to take. Just as an example - countries (doesn't matter if in the list or just in general over the world) with limited freedom (be it dictatorship or some other sort of limitations for picking the government and/or leaders) have always manipulate those statistics in their advantage. Would tell you most comfortably that all countries in the EU or European Economic Zone and Schengen are far better than those outside in any single metric. Yet the rankings put some of them after others). Another example is Turkey which great for visiting or living in by the European side, can become quite different in its far south-eastern border. Obviously same can be said for Russia and its different regions. A lot of the countries are quite close to each other and that is also not mentioned, so grouping them would make a lot more sense. One more point is how 'crime' is depicted and put down. Due to differences of reporting and grouping even in similar-level countries can sound or be completely different in terms of classification. Wealthy European countries often count petty crimes (like pickpocketing or scams) which sometimes boost their crime rates. Other countries put pickpockets and murders in the same table. Some don't count any of them and have 'low' or 'no' crimes (back to my previous statement).

@@dtibvgz8441 True, some of those metrics are hard to translate into numbers. Such as "freedom" or "happiness" or even "corruption" for example. I can only agree with you on that one. Yet, those statistics exist for some reason and are frequently refered to. They have to be interpreted with a grain of salt for sure. But this ranking uses them as well as any other ranking video. If you're criticizing it for this (which is a fair thing to do) video, you have to criticize it for any other video out there as well. But if you remove those metrics and re-do the ranking yourself, only based on hard facts, the list will only shift around slightly and won't result in any major difference, because some of those variables effect other areas as well, such as economy, unemployment, crime and health. The biggest difference will propably hit the nordic nations, due to them propably losing the top spots on this list. Regarding crime statistics: well there are lists out there, that try to evaluate different crime statistics on an even playground, to fairly judge this on a general basis. This ranking is based on one of those - as far as I can tell. So this should be a very fair and truely representative result here. The biggest problem obviously occurs, when countries don't register certain crimes and therefore alter their own numbers, as some troublesome nations tend to do (as well as report fully cosmetic numbers as well). This issue is hard to come by. But again, this should also have the same effect on any other ranking video out there, as there is no good way to compensate for this otherwise. You can of course correct this yourself, punish nations that do this in your own ranking, based on your opinion, but then it again will be a list including your personal opinion, which this source video tries not to do.

Albania wont be a popular tourist destiantion anymore within 5 years. Like this happens everywhere. Some little hype waters down within some years leaving the local population with higher prices. Bulgaria and ''popular'' doesnt go along in 1 sentence. Montenegro; the scenery have lots of potential without all the nasty dirt which literally cannot be unseen. Prices are definitely lower for a reason.

many people don't understand that before 1989 eastern europe was not willingly communist, this was occupation. Many older people told me that even worse than german. That causes people to think that people there are bad and they are like 3rd world countries because of western propaganda. There is no one to blame, you obviously will say to your people that your enemy is bad but after soviets lost no one changed this, still in western schools almost nothing is told about countries east from germany and this story of 3rd world communists continues. I can say that this story is not true today, some of eastern european countries already catched up with the west and the rest is working on it, firms such as for example google are opening research and development sites, their own businesses are growing (for example some of the biggest players in game industry are from there) and their specialists are working almost everywhere in the world. Eastern europe is great place to visit, for the first time Poland is probably the best choice, they are the biggest eastern country in european union and they are they are most similar to the west. Eastern europe, especially balkans have a lot of different cultures which are worth seeing

Tax reasons? Lol It's clear he knows nothing about Italian history. Also, the Vatican Museums (54 galleries comprised of 1400 rooms) are the second most-visited museum complex in the world after the Louvre, so there's plenty of interesting stuff to see there if you're not a moron.

If you visit Sweden, its beautiful in the north where you can see the northern lights, reindeers, moose, deer and many more. Lots of snow in the Winter if you like to dog sledding or skiing etc. If you prefer out capital Stockholm, there are so much so see and in the summer you can Take Nice boats out to all the different Islands where people even live all year around. So its a lot to see. Enjoy Europe🙂

Although I am glad to be a European/British person there is one thing that I think Europe should do and that is put more of it's wealth into NATO. For too long we have leaned too much on the USA's vast resources in military capabilities. My own part of Europe, the UK does spend its share of 3%GDP, but only barely, however it's plain from the video that Europe could shoulder its share of the burden, especially those countries at the top which afford such comfortable living standards.
