Super smart idea for the masking tape. I’ve spent hours cutting squares into the covers and sometimes (horribly) through the canvas with a razor pen…. This is a much better solution.

I found in the winter in Canada I live on the west coast. I find that the glue on the sticker cover it very finicky and will not stick well. Usually I need a heating on to get them to stick.. the poured glue I don’t have that issue. Summer time seems to be the best time to DP. I have done two poured glue ones with no issues and I use tape to make squares section so that I can preserve the rest of the canvas while working on it. My first time was a disaster with pealing back and not doing sections at a time. The glue becomes less sticky over time! I am so glad I found these tips it has made DP so much easier!!!! And if you need to put it a way for awhile it’s still really good the glue! And I don’t use parchment because I find it degrades the glue. Makes it les sticky. Lol. Just keep your squared off sheet and use that. Sorry this is so long. Love you videos!

Thanks so much, Zinnia! These are fantastic tips! It's nice to hear that I'm not the only person who has issues with glue related to climate. I've had so many people tell me that their canvases are just fine that I was starting to doubt myself! That is super interesting about the stickiness of your covers relating to the cold. Thanks for sharing this information and your tips!

Seeing you use masking tape in your previous videos is the reason why I am also using the same to section my canvas. I only use washi as a border. Personally, I also find it more practical and economical.👌🏻😍 Seeing the washi getting thrown along with the plastic cover in an instant just breaks my heart.😆

Oh my goodness, this canvas is gorgeous! I play violin and I need to get this one, it's perfect! 🎻💖 With double sided adhesive I cut off randomly sized sections, depending how organised I feel. Sometimes they may actually be similar in size or I just cut as big a section as I want on the day, depending how I feel and how much time I have to work on my WIP. And with poured glue I'm very lazy - I just lift the cover and place the drills where I feel like... 😁

I like your idea of using masking tape because I have the same issue with washi tape on clear covers of it just curling. Washi is fun to use over the sticky edge though, so pretty! I have found release papers on Amazon in bundles of 50 or 100. So far, in the past year I have yet to find an issue with release papers. I have enjoyed using the release papers in an advent or random fashion. Rebecca from 4kids@147 started an advent calendar in 2020 diamond painting event and after that started using a number generator to have it pick which numbered off section to do. I have tried this and had fun with it as well. It can be done with a sectioned off clear with tape as well. It does add some fun random dimension to diamond painting.

I tend to peel back the plastic covers leaving the whole because I have long haired dogs. I want my canvas to be covered as much as possible until it's done. I might have to use several cover minders but that's OK. I like to follow the shapes in the paintings and go where they take me. I think I'm slower this way but it's a fun process for me. The paper covers are easier but their glue isn't! I like your masking tape idea, that is my thing with washi tape, it's pretty but expensive to just throw out. As usual, you give great tips and hints!

Great demo, Jessica! I find myself working with a lot of double sided tape and generally work in about 4” rows cut with my trusty exacto across the whole canvas. Each time I start a new “session” I estimate how big a section I want to do, make a vertical cut with the exacto and remove the cover sheet for the whole section. I’ve been doing DP long enough to estimate pretty accurately but if something comes up and I have to pause for a couple hours or more, I just put a temporary cover on the section and come back later. I’ve been doing a few more with poured glue and find the masking tape grid works for me, but I use an exacto again and remove the section completely. I’ve never needed to use a coverminder but they sure are cute…maybe I just need a couple for canvas “jewelry” 😁 thanks again!

I use tape on my clear cover too, but I never thought to cut right through the tape! I usually cut a small part of the cover then start tearing it along the edge of the tape so it tears cleanly in a straight line. Can't tell how well I explained that but it's helpful especially if I sectioned off parts where you can see that certain colors start or stop.

I like to section my canvas with 3mm washi tape I got on Amazon. I don't mind throwing it away. Plus, I like that since it is thin, it does not cover a lot of rows on the canvas. I find with thicker washi tape and masking tape, you have more in the next section to do because they cover up multiple rows. I am one of the ones who does measure my sections, lol. I don't like sectioning with release papers, because I like to see the canvas while I'm working on it. Plus, I don't like how it does not stick to your canvas after you've started a section. I'ver never used parchment paper. I have seen people have issues with their canvas not being sticky anymore after leaving parchment paper on it for a while. So if you are going to put it aside for a while you might not want to use parchment paper. Today is my birthday. My lovely husband got me some beautiful flowers and a DIYMoon Shop gift card. I also got a DIYMoon Shop gift card from my parents. Getting to see your video is another bonus.

Will try release papers some day and wonder once you cover your canvas and you have to roll it up some, if the release papers stay in place.

Another inexpensive tape option is the invisible cellophane tape. It doesn't stick too hard to the covers but works really well around the edges especially if you have a strip of extra glue. You can leave it on forever even when framing and it won't show.

Hi, Brittany! Your question made me realize that I am not very adventurous! I actually only work along edges, but if I were to do a middle section I would likely use an exacto for the paper cover. I think I would be inclined to still use scissors with the tape/clear cover, since the scissors seem to glide pretty well, but I will have to experiment! :)

I don't think there's a timeline per se, but the canvas does accumulate dirt and lint from the air when it's left uncovered. This causes it to lose its tack over time. I don't usually get up without covering my working section back up. :)

They can be. The larger the piece the heavier they are generally. I have quite a few hanging in my house, and the largest I've actually framed and hung is 60x80 cm.
