0:14-0:27:- If you have crowded teeth,spaces between teeth(Diastema), Proclination of upper teeth/Class 2 malocclusion and underbite /Class 3 malocclusion , or you dislike your overall smile and want to get it treated at clinic, then these conditions can be corrected through braces. 0:28- 0:58:- In many cases, people have straight teeth,but either the upper jaw is set further in relation to lower jaw( retrognathic jaw) or the lower jaw is set relatively further in relation to upper jaw (prognathic jaw). This can either be congenital due to any trauma. If this condition is not orthodontically corrected, it might even lead to further more complications, For instance, if your teeth are overly crowded then you would not be able to clean them properly.This might lead to caries, periodontal problems, and might also lead to tooth loss. Malocclusion might cause further problems in speech and mastication (chewing), might lead to Jaw pain and also cause Dental Attrition (mechanical wearing of occlusal or incisal surface of teeth). 0:59-1:13:- 🌟When you book an appointment with your Dentist , they would do the following : •They would take your medical history asking a few health related questions. • They would conduct a medical examination • They would evaluate tooth size and tooth size discrepancy. •They would take an X-Ray: (OPG,Cephalogram etc.) Radiographs. •They would take Intra-oral and Extra-oral photographs. -Your Dentist would collect and study all this data to come up with the best possible treatment plan for you. 1:14-1:17:- Sending a photograph to your Dentist via Whatsapp or Instagram won't help your Dentist to plan the right treatment for you. For proper Treatment Plan , you need to visit your Dentist. 1:18-1:25:- # Some Easy Cases: Retainers: 1) Removable retainers: these retainers must be worn for some hours everyday or as per the instructions of the dentist. In some cases, this would be sufficient for the purpose of straightening teeth. 1:26-1:30:- # Severe Cases Orthognathic Surgery: In some severe cases, the mandible is relatively set further, Orthognathic Surgery is performed to reposition the jaw bone for proper jaw alignment. 1:31-1:33:- # Most Cases: In normal cases Braces are sufficient. 1:34-1:36:- 🌟Braces actually help the teeth in achieving a more aligned position. 1:38- 1:56:- # Benefits of Orthodontic treatment: •You look good : Once the teeth achieve their newly aligned and straightened position ,they appear aesthetically more pleasing. •Easily cleanable: The teeth after gaining a proper aligned and straightened position becomes more easily cleanable, this helps prevention of further dental problems. (The difficulty in cleaning crowded teeth might increase the risk of dental caries and periodontal disease). •Eat well: Proper alignment and Occlusion of all teeth would help you to eat properly,as equal pressure is being exerted on every tooth, not just only one or a few tooth. 1:58-2:07:- # Types of Braces:- 1) Metal Braces: (stainless steel brackets) 2) Ceramic Braces: tooth coloured (ceramic brackets) 3) Lingual Braces: attached to the lingual side (inner side) of teeth. 4) Transparent Braces. Out of these the one that is suitable in your case will be suggested by your Dentist. 2:08-2:26:- # HOW DO BRACES WORK? -Brackets and wires are attached to the teeth and are then secured by elastic ties. -Your dentist would do the tightening and adjustment of these elastic ties and wires. This exerts pressure on the tooth onto which these brackets are attached and orthodontic tooth movement inside the bone takes place, bringing the tooth in the desired position . 2:28-2:54:- # DO TEETH HAVE TO BE REMOVED FOR TREATMENT? -If the jaw is relatively shorter in size, then it won't be able to accommodate each and every tooth aligned in their correct position onto the alveolar arch. This is the reason why crowding takes place,and in order to correct this condition, your Dentist might suggest for the tooth extraction to create the extra space such that every single tooth can be accommodated in their correct position in the arch. 2:55-3:19:- # HOW LONG DOES THE TREATMENT TAKE? -It varies from person to person depending upon how difficult is their case, whether the jaw would be able to accommodate space for all tooth, whether the patient follows the instructions of his dentist properly. -On an average, it takes around 1-3 years for the completion of this treatment. After Removal of braces, your dentist will give you a retainer that you are required to wear all the time for a period of 6 month. Afterwards, you will be instructed by your Dentist to wear these retainers only at night for a few more years. 3:20-3:42:- # HOW MANY TIMES WILL YOU GO TO THE DENTIST? Your Dentist would schedule an appointment for you; once in every month, during the entire course of treatment. During these appointments, the Dentist would: •change the rubber bands. •change the arch wire and adjust the new wire. This is done because once the tooth is brought into the new aligned position, the wires to needs to be changed. New wires are placed for providing Tension in order to move the next tooth at the desired position. -And if required your dentist would also do cleaning of your teeth. 3:44-4:02:- # IS TREATMENT WITH BRACES HURTFUL? The brackets and wires can sometimes irritate gums and lips. Also during initial phase of treatment and at the time of each appointment after changing or tightening of the wire, a moderate pain can be experienced by patients which might last for 1-3 days and can be treated by taking Panadol or any painkiller. 4:04-4:12:- # WHEN CAN YOU GET BRACES? The best time to get your braces treatment done is during childhood years. This is because bones are in their growth phase during childhood , desired modification can be done taking into consideration the growth spurts. But the treatment can even be done in young adults. 4:13 -4:25:- # ANY SIDE EFFECTS OF THE TREATMENT:- shortening of the root during the treatment might occur, This however, does not make any difference in the condition of your teeth, ie; they would still remain healthy. 4:26-4:37:- If the treatment is not done properly , it might damage your teeth,alveolar bone, jaw bone and gums permanently. A trained, experienced dentist or specialist (Orthodontist) won't let this happen. 4:39-5:00:- # TAKING CARE OF BRACES AND TEETH: -Because of wires and brackets attached onto your teeth, a lot of food debris and food lodgement might take place on the tooth surfaces. -This means that after taking meals, you need to clean your teeth properly. Otherwise, this might increase the chances of dental caries. -Also, you need to be very careful while cleaning your teeth. Brushing your teeth too vigorously might cause your Braces to fall off or break, i.e, the brackets themselves may become loose and fall off, causing the wiring to come down with it. -You must avoid consuming hard and sticky food items. 5:01-5:21:- # WHAT HAPPENS WHEN BRACES ARE REMOVED? Your Dentist would: •Do the cleaning of your teeth. •Would do the extraction of wisdom tooth. It takes a long time for the crooked to teeth to get into the desired aligned position, an erupting wisdom tooth might again cause the aligned teeth to get back to its original position . 5:22-5:40:- -After removal of braces, your Dentist will give a Retainer, which would help your teeth to maintain and hold its new position. -There are 2 types of retainers: # Fixed Retainers: these are placed onto the lingual surface (inner side of teeth). # Removable Retainers: These are of 2 types •Hawley's retainer/metal retainer. •Clear retainer/Plastic retainer. 5:41-6:14:- # IS THIS TREATMENT PERMANENT? The reason why the straightened teeth might become crooked again after removal of braces is because of a simple reason. The sole purpose of braces treatment is to bring the teeth in a proper position. However, this position is not entirely stable. When the wires which brought the teeth into its new position are removed, the teeth tends to move back to its original position. This is why Dentists recommend you to wear retainers, till the time your teeth settles permanently it's new position. Because people get tired of wearing retainers(1-2 years) and the because the retainer they get is removable type. So, they generally do not wear these Retainers. And the teeth which tends to move back to its original position, would again become crooked. 6:15-6:46:- Braces helps in teeth,bite and smile correction. But, firstly you need to discuss each and every aspect of this treatment with your Dentist. -It might be that you are not the right candidate for this treatment and you require some treatment other than braces, which might solve your problem. If your Dentist says that you need to get braces. Then, no need to worry. This treatment is quite successful, provided you stay committed, follow the instructions of your Dentist and visit the clinic at each scheduled appointment or else duration of the treatment would increase. 6:47-7:00:- # WHO CAN GIVE YOU THE TREATMENT? -Both General Dentist and Orthodontist is the one who specialises in providing this treatment, i.e, for correcting occlusion,bite, crooked teeth and other jaw related disorders. - An experienced and skilled General Dentist can provide treatment for normal to moderate cases. Whereas, an Orthodontist usually provides treatment for severe cases. 7:01-7:20:- - Not everyone is born with a perfect smile, but through treatment you can get a beautiful and healthy smile. If he was an Orthodontist, which is a Specialist of Braces in simple words, then trust whatever he says. Usually this statement is true. You let the growth finish first and then get braces, unless it is a very severe case.
