Mike, a "pond scoop" is a must have for older tractors without a FEL...in the old days...a "pond scoop" was pulled by miles to clean mud from shallow ponds... thanks for always providing education for all tractors..use, safety and more

Tractor Mike.....you are doing a good job of stirring me away from Green. But then, the 3-speed grear range in most other small tractors other than Green is very, very.....did I say, "VERY".....compeling also! My needs for precisely controlling speed for some of my spray applications at different stages of grapevine growth is HUGE!!! In other words....Time, Speed and Distance controls are essential!

Mike, I'm sorry but I have to correct you! When you mentioned scoop so harshly, and I don't blame you, I giggled at you like the dealer you mentioned would a customer. Here a "Scoop" is actually a commonly used implement around me, but not for a loader. Scoops are used typically on the 3pt and are really good at digging and carrying, in my opinion better then a loader. Scoops are usually no wider then 3ft unless you are into some pretty big tractors. Some will hold up to a cubic yard of material and only require lifting and lowering of the 3pt. I ran one once that was fancy and the scoop was hydraulically tilted to adjust the bite and for dumping / spreading.

A Level flat spot or concrete slab works well to remove loader and hook back up, all must be level, or head aches are inevitable! Good point made Mike!

I hear you, Mike! I have a Deere that I just purchased a few months ago. It is my second Deere. My first one was 16 years old and I ain’t getting any younger so I decided to go to just little more HP so I bought a little bigger tractor. Yes I got a loader quick detach! I have taken that loader off and on at least 6/7 times since I bought it. Oh it’s a JD 2038. I have never had any trouble putting the loader on or off. I don’t have a need for pallet forks but as I move a lot of dirt, I’ve never taken the bucket off. You are right about attachments for my Deere. They got you. There are several companies that make attachments to fit JD but they are as high as JD attachments. As far as the loader goes, you are stuck with Deere. Don’t get me wrong I’m sure people have trouble taking loaders off and on! I’m just saying that so far I have not had one problem.

I’m sorry for your bad luck but you should have naught your deere with the standard skidsteer quick attach. Your salesman probably didn’t tell you that you could. You can still convert it to a skid steer quick attach, and you will have the full array of loader attachments available to you. John Deere literally sells skid steer quick attach on new tractors. So much ignorance out there on this topic. I highly recommend you change it out if you ever decide to purchase more loader attachments!

I regularly remove and reinstall my Kubota L3830 loader with no problems. I’ve always done it on level concrete and it takes only a few minutes for each task. I can easily see problems if you try this in the field. Keep the videos coming, Mike.

Mike - reason to take the loader off and not just the bucket - I was new to this last year, got a new Kubota, and took the bucket off to mow my new-to-me and full-of-obstacles property. I proceeded to cram one of the unprotected loader arms into a tree; wasn't good judging distances on this new machine with parts sticking out. I bent the whole front of the loader frame on my 1 week old tractor, and of course was beyond disbelief. So be very careful with those quick attach arms sticking out unprotected. Instead just practice a time or two - doing this was totally new to me and now I can go and off with the loader with no sweat in moments.

Mike - Thanks for the excellent videos. I have a JD 1025R with the quick attach loader and it's really no big deal getting on and off the tractor. The hydraulic lines are sometimes a pain, but alignment and connections of the loader to the tractor is really easy. Also, there are adapters to go from JD quick attach bucket to skid steer quick attach buckets etc. While it is true that Deere has gone rogue in this area, they do work very well and are very easy to use. Thanks again and keep up the great work!

Some good reasons for taking off a loader. I have to remove the loader on my JD 2025R to keep from rutting up my lawn/pasture areas that are slow draining in the Spring. The extra weight of the loader is also hard on septic systems too. I can install my JD loader in 1 and a half minutes. A minute to hook up hydraulics and 30 seconds to put the loader on without getting out of my seat. I really believe that a quick attach loader is an important consideration when choosing a tractor.

Ålö, the number one non-tractor FEL manufacturer (and they do OEM for several brands) in the world (quite sure of that) use Euro as standard for bigger loaders. In Sweden a combo of Euro and SMS (Swedish standard) is probably the most delivered one. We also use hydraulic locking of the implement. The biggest of Ålö's Quicke loaders can come with ISO 23727 which is one developed by Volvo for wheel loaders.

Mike, I have taken my quick attach front loader off of my Kioti CK4010 and I had no trouble putting it back on. However, I did it on a flat cement floor inside my shed. I think if the the frame has guides to feed it in like the ck4010 has, it is not very difficult and it is quick. (Less than 10 minutes). I know that is off the subject from front loaders but there are times that I like to do work in the yard when it is softer and have more flotation from the tires (like fertilizing and tree planting). It also has made maintenance and cleaning a ton easier. There are some hard to reach grease fittings that I got to with the FEL off. You may want to rethink that with your newer NH as compared to an older tractor with a supposed "quick" attach loader.

Hi from England! Over here in England nearly every loader now, from 35hp up really, they are nearly all Euro 8 quick attach! Only a few compact tractors ive seen have Skid loader QA on them - i think thats largely because the skid loader market over here is much less than the US! All the best

I should have gotten a FEL on my first tractor, but didn't and just accepted the regular attachments which the dealer included in the package deal since I didn't think I would need it. After having my tractor for awhile I saw that it would have been helpful and the second tractor did include one and I was glad to have it.

While I can understand that removing a loader from a larger tractor might be a pain but with todays compact and sub-compact machines removing the loader is a snap. The key is a hard level area to remove the FEL so that when reinstalling everything lines up. I remove my loader for finish lawn mowing around the house all the time and can do it in minutes. With the trees and shrubs around my buildings my loader would just be in the way and not to mention the extra weight hanging off the front of my tractor when installing my drive over mid-mount mowing deck. Then only time I've ever had an issue is when I chose a poor location to drop my loader. The ground was uneven and soft so it was a chore getting it back on. Always use a hard level surface and you'll not have issues.

Another great informative video, and another reason not to buy a Green tractor ;). I don't own a tractor, and never have....err well a lawn tractor LOL. Anyhow, I would never have known that John Deere's implements wouldn't fit other brands....good to know and a great reason to go with another brand tractor, I'd rather have a huge variety of available attachments to easily swap out than be stuck with a dealer only attachment that may not exist and/or be extremely expensive as a result of being a proprietary brand attachment.

You can buy a John Deere with skidsteer quick attach. But there’s just a myth out there that you can’t. They certainly do have their own style quick attach BUT it’s not the only way. Now I run a business and we’ve had them all. There’s a reason why deere has been around for over 100 years and continues to be the world leader in tractors and ag. You can buy a deere with a SSQA and have the same loader attachment as anything else. And as for the rear, 3 point hitches are the industry standard. Just helping kill the rumors that go around a lot of people just don’t know.

Hi Mike! I’m guessing when you took the loader off it was on uneven ground, which guarantees a bad time putting it back on. I only take mine off when I have major maintenance to do on the tractor. But when I do take it off, I do it on flat concrete, so it goes back on with no trouble. I also have a quick attach bucket and taken it off for more maneuverability when needed instead of taking the loader. BTW, I have an L3901 with the same loader as the tractor in your video and just posted a video on removing and installing the loader. A few people commented about your advice about leaving it on so I looked up your video. I’ve been a subscriber of yours for a good long while so I’m surprised I missed this one. Thanks for sharing your wisdom and tractor know-how! You’ve taught me a lot about the care and feeding of tractors!

I've taken my loader off once to service the tractor (makes it easy to reach the oil filter). It is a John Deere sub-compact tractor and actually removing and installing both took hardly any effort or time. I spent more time disconnecting/reconnecting the hydraulic lines. I can't imagine taking the loader off to use the tractor for anything unless I had a belly mower on it.

I remove and reinstall the loader on my MF1531 twice a year to switch to the frame mounted plow. It's really not a problem at all. The tractor hydraulics are used to move and lift everything. However, I do it in the garage on a nice flat slab. I suppose doing it on less than level ground might be tougher.

John Deere also offers the Euro QA (they call it the global carrier) as a standard QA. You also have the option to get the Skid Steer QA, if you want it. Lol- they offer a bewildering array of options for loaders etc in their build my tractor function on the website. (to be fair, my interest is mainly in the AG tractors, not the compacts, but I have looked into them.)

Actually, there are in fact "Dirt Scoops" that attach to the 3-point hitch. They were quite popular back in the day with older tractors like the Ford 9N and 8N when having a loader was rare. They attach to the 3PH and you "scoop up" dirt while moving forward and then pull a lever and they will dump. You can still buy new ones today from various sources. So it's not impossible that someone with an older tractor might come in to the implement dealer and in fact ask for a "Scoop". :-)

"Scoop" could be valid tractor terminology if you're talking about a 3ph scoop pan, but you're right, that's definitely not right for a loader. I take my loader off all the time to have more room to turn around while doing field work. Sometimes I have trouble getting lined back up perfectly but I can get it sorted out in a few minutes. Driving around without a bucket or other attachment on might not be a great idea because the bucket adds rigidity and without it on you can easily tweak the loader if you hit something.

It sounds like you removed your quick attach loader on an uneven surface. Doing so can make you hate life. However, if you remove the loader on a level surface it goes back on just as easy as it came off. My experience is mainly JD and I take my loader on and off all the time. It takes less than 5-minutes. In fact, I need to remove the loader to attach my front snow blower. On the newest model tractors from Deere and Kubota you don't even need to leave the seat to install/remove the loader. You pull a lever and disengage the single point hydraulic coupler and back away from the loader. Reinstalling is just as easy.
