This is awesome! I’ve been in child care for 24 years, but spent 15 years as a director and opened my licensed home 2 years ago. I’ve had younger children most of that time and now have some preschoolers and was looking for something to do with them that would still fit into my play based program, but also feel like I’m teaching something the parents will see as “teaching” instead of them being pulled to go to prek at the school.

we use small baskets on the tables when cutting too. we call them "tidy tubs" :)

I can't find all the colors I need for the journals! Do you think it would be OK to use folders with paper in between?

That could work. I would teach the students how to treat them gently since they won't be quite as sturdy. You could also grab some colored duct tape and cover the front cover to make it the color you need.

Is this recommended for 3 year olds, or should we wait until they are 4?

I use it with 3, 4, and 5 year old! Obviously, that looks differently for a 3 year old than what I would do with a 5 year old but fine motor journals are great for all ages.
