I used to run these tractors on the Palouse side hills. We tried adding a turbo, and it overheated. Put in a bigger expansion tank, and cracked the cast iron head. I miss running those in my youth. I like the International red, and have no clue, why people want to paint them Caterpillar yellow. Same with the Allis Chalmers orange. That, is my favorite shade of orange. Sad, to see yours neglected so bad. Paint, is not that expensive, and would extend it's life even more. The fact, that it still runs, is testament to quality craftsmanship, from an earlier era.

The flapper on the injector pump is where you fill the pump with lubricating oil not where you bleed it. The injector pump should have oil in it but it is not circulated through the engine

Army had these at Camp McCoy WS in 1969, my eng unit the 615th lt. Equipment Co. Was on temporary duty (TDY) clearing fire breaks around impact areas. Ran good but they had cable blades.

The little flap on the injection pump is for adding oil, the pump is not lubricated by engine oil pressure, it has its own oil sump, if you look there is a drain plug on the bottom of the pump, and then a oil level check plug on the side, pump oil should be changed every oil change

TD20 was an upgrade of the TD18, made by International Harvester about 1960. This machine was made about 1961 or so. Definatley not 1953. This dozer weighed about 15 tons. Not 20 tons. All International diesels were gas to diesel start since about 1944. After 1962, all International disels went to direct start. Dresser bought IH then Dressda Poland (Komatsu)bought the line.

Can you please give some information about TD 15
@Jono.3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for all the extra information. Super cool machine regardless. I also did not know Rolls Royce even made Diesel engines let alone put them in heavy machinery. Do you happen to know the engine model? I am also curious - does the hydraulic pump just run off the crankshaft?

Great video. Many thanks for posting. I imagine the carburettor butterfly is linked to the compression control lever to stop gasoline being burned when running on diesel. Would you be able to confirm this or explain how this is done otherwise please?

There is a lever that holds up the float in the back of the carburetor. I have at 1959 TD-15 with the same decompression lever setup. This lever controls so many things to change from gas start to diesel run. For example there is a contact switch on the end of the manifold that is connected to butterflies that reduce the intake by 1/2. The switch turns on and off the power to the coil. So the gas and spark and gas combustion chamber is shut off by the decompression lever.

I've worked on a 50's Adams road grader that used a similar gas / diesel engine.

We bought one for our farm about 25 years ago. Damn county didn't think it was their responsibility to grade and plow the County road that we lived on so we bought a grader because we were tired of being snowed in and having massive ruts. Very handy machine and quite amazing what they can do.

This machine was built between 1955 and 1960 or so. It had about 120 hp. No where near 180 hp. The English TD20's had Rolls Royce Diesels, much smoother running.

I don't think that flip flap on the pump is not diesel it's oil some of those older pumps needed to be filled with oil might be a level plug on the side should find out before you fuck it up
