I just want to say thank you for all the content you put out! I've been researching preschool curriculum options for my preschool aged kiddo and your channel has been so helpful in helping me lay out my options. My kids are just a tad behind yours in age, so it's been so awesome finding someone close to the same stages we are in, with recent content that hasn't aged yet.

Awesome review! I have both curriculums but I personally lean toward All About Reading because is approved by The Science of Reading and Orton Gillingham Method. Lots of science (brain MRI , studies and proof ) behind The Science of Reading and the fact that AAR is approved by them, gives me a huge peace of mind. Also, I’ve never seen my kid read and comprehend as much as he does now with All About Reading. Amazing curriculum! ALSO! Is not only about reading , there’s a lot of ELA in the workbook. Story order, Expressive Language comprehension , there’s way more than just reading . The student workbook teaches your kid wayyyy more than just reading. Amazing curriculum!

Such a good review! My 6 yr old started out in 2020 with TGTB level K, I quickly realized it was too much at first. So we stopped, started AAR level one. We are getting close to finishing it up, but we was getting too stressed out with it. So now we are taking a break from AAR and back to TGTB. For him, he’s doing good switching back and forth when one gets tough. I’m so glad to see I’m not the only switcher. 🤣

@@rebekahp741 I've actually been looking it a lot. I find it goes at a good pace, not too slow not too fast, and it presents the information in a fun and interesting way. This program also includes math concepts, but we do add another math program along side this. The teacher's guide includes a lot of science and interesting information, so I feel we are covering a lot of subjects with the R2R. That being said, I haven't used any other program that's intention was specific to teaching reading so it's hard to compare, but I have been overall happy with it, and my 6 year old has been catching on quite well. Hope that helps!

Loved this video. What a great review. TGATB just didnt work for us. My daughter cried nearly everyday when we did it. My kiddo isnt the type to just take instruction at face value - she wanted an explanation for everything. TGATB didnt offer that and when there was an exception to a rule, I just had to tell her that I didnt know why. AAR leaves zero gaps. There is an explanation for EVERYTHING, which I appreciated. I loved the art work in TGATB but that was about it. 🥺

I had heard that TGATB was a bit advanced so I’ve been going through “how to teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons”. Even though he has been getting bored of that format, he seems to be picking up reading quite nicely. So I feel he with be fine with TGATB. With that said, I did purchase the 3 readers from all about reading today! It is always nice to have more practice material on hand and they looked beautiful. I don’t know if you’ve checked out TGATB’s new language arts curriculum but they just released “my first nature readers” and they are bound like the all about reading readers and are so beautifully illustrated. I think that teaching my kids to read is such a privilege and a joy. It’s such a special milestone, like learning to walk.

Hello from Canada :) It was great to watch your review as we have tried both curriculums as well. My son is going to be 8 in November and last year, the Level 1 program was too much for him, so we just did phonics practice and Ready to Read from Gather Round. His reading has taken off..he went from not being able to sound out any letters last September to reading at a grade 2/3 level now AND not crying when he sees a book or a pencil :D We are currently finishing up All About Spelling Level 1 and will be moving onto All About Spelling Level 2. I am thinking about switching back and forth between my Learning Language Arts Through Literature Gr. 2 (Which we love- teaches LA through read alouds and poems), and TGATB Level 2, to change things up and get some more grammar practice. I love what you mentioned in another video how the curriculum has to work for your family . I have watched many videos that have been critical of various curriculums because people used them as prescribed and it didn't work. I like to pull from multiple sources that will match my kids' learning styles and interests. We are new to homeschooling- just started our 2nd year. I finally gave myself permission to adapt curriculum to suit our needs and it has led to sooo much less frustration and tears all around. Good luck with your year! NZ is on my bucket list to visit one day :D

I so wished TGAB would have worked for our kids. My youngest needed reading intervention so we switched to Logic of English for him. My oldest reads at a HS level but needed help with grammar rules. He tested grammar wise in 4th and they recommended we start there. He reads C.S. Lewis so the readers were babyish for him. I wish they had some flexibility in levels for kids like my son. It is a beatiful, well thought out curriculum though. Wish we could use the LA.

I have another question as well (sorry). When it comes to curriculum I mainly let my son decide and he loves them both. TGTB makes him laugh due to their videos, especially the "up" one and he enjoys the lady who did that one. He also loves AAR because of the letter tiles & activity book. He says to me, "mummy, I want to do TGTB because it's good & it's beautiful" then when we weren't doing AAR he asked me, "mumma, where's Sam?" So my question would be, is it possible to do both? I thought he was struggling with reading but I was at fault for not teaching him how to blend properly (I learnt how to read via memorizing). AAR helped me with that and now he's off like wild fire. If it is possible to do both, what would you recommend starting off with & how many days in a week? I know you said to do TGTB after AAR but I don't think he's really going to accept that, lol.

Yes, I would agree with this. Jack will have completed TGTB K and AAR level 1 at the end of the year and will then be moving on to TGTB Level 1. :)

What do you recommend for preschool? We are switching from TGATB kindergarten to AAR level 1. I want a more phonics based lesson for her until she’s a great reader and we loved the preschool curriculum for TGATB. I’m wondering if I should start my son on AAR preschool or just do good and the beautiful and then switch.

Both use phonics to teach reading, so you can’t go wrong there. If TGTB is working well for you then I’d probably just continue with it.

@@ThisHomeschoolHouse he heard some say TGATB isn’t as much and it got me worried, maybe because there are so many sight words?
