After finishing the video I'd say that's pretty much dead on. They just scream for screamings sake, if you just have one you can at least kind of teach them different calls for attention. My bird was never once afraid of my cats, they're afraid if him. So yeah big bird personality for sure. I need to watch your video on getting them to play with toys again, Gordon is stuck closer than cling wrap with this quarantine. Which is bad since now he's jealous of any attention I pay the cats. I really love how you explain things. You are very thoughtful and aware of your viewers whether they are experts or beginners with birds. If you have time and could point me in the right direction, i would absolutely love that: I brought home a male Cockatiel two days ago and i have been researching endlessly to get all of this right. The first thing i am focussing on is to not be too overbearing these first few days towards him. I have (for the most part) done everything else right for example, pop him in a relatively high spot, in a corner so he feels safe, good cage setup, diet, different natural size perches, etc. If i ever go near him, he starts endlessly pacing, climbing up and down his cage, sometimes smacking his beak on his cage. He has never ever hissed or bit me. I am not sure if he is anxious of me or if he is desperate to get out and fly. The first day i brought him home i made the mistake of giving him a taste of flying out of his cage in the room and i think he enjoyed it. The problem is, he is not hand tamed and hasn't even become fully used to his cage so it is a struggle to get him back in. I haven't even considered target training him yet just because his energy levels skyrocket when i go near his cage. Would target practise be the first thing to teach him even before hand feeding and getting him to step up? The most progress i have made with him is when he does settle down and im sitting near his cage, he is comfortable enough to eat his food within close proximity to me. I walk past his room daily and whistle and say hello to establish a connection and relationship from afar, but i really dont know how else to go about it. He is extremely silent all day and i assume thats because its all new to him but im not too sure. If i can tell he is going crazy to get out of his cage, should i use this to my ability and open his cage and sit infront of it to see if he approaches me? Or should i leave him inside until he is hand tamed and able to understand when he needs to go back into the cage? Another side note is he is not interested in millet spray, toys or anything else at the current moment. Ive paid attention to his food bowls and he does love sunflower seeds. Im thinking that when i switch him over to pellets and fruit/veg, i will remove the sunflower seeds slowly and use that as a treat to get him to come to me, step up etc. If you read all of this, thank you so much. I do appreciate it.

@OcalaKitty4 жыл бұрын
Please, take a deep breath & let him fly indoors. My sun was the most special of all my birds. He was allowed to fly from the kitchen to a small screen enclosed porch. Yes, I did clip his long flight feathers. Yes, he did have to work a little harder to fly. But that worked in his favor because our apartment was very small. He never screamed from boredom & he was very social. He didn't bite. Over a very short time, he learned to go to a perch to relieve himself. Ever since I has Pebbles, I realized how to have birds in a house. It's not about the cage, or the petting, or the food. It's all of it with as much freedom as you can allow.
@kiwi46094 жыл бұрын
Keep him in his cage for the first week. Then in the second week, complete checkpoint training in the cage, if you're still scared then have a piece of fruit on a stick and complete the training, help the bird know that you are friend not foe. Don't look at it with both eyes as it can cause the bird to be scared as humans may look like predators because we have our eyes on the front of our head. Just let it be calm, as it can be very skiddish when young. So just wait it out and let them fly around and give them space. Just ignore then in week one, in week 2 let them out of their cage and let them fly in your house.

I have a Sun Conure I have had her for seventeen years now, she is spoiled rotten I didn’t train her for anything special just to be my family and to know she is loved . Her cage door is mostly open . The only time it is closed is for her own safety. Her diet consist of Zupreem pellets , fruit, flavored , pasta, and original. She has her own jar of peanut butter, she has grapes, real pasta, peanuts, and dehydrated fruit anything she wants kind of lol ! I am 72 years old now and would rest easy knowing if something happened to me my Squeakers would have a good home is there a possibility
