I remember my first few months of having a saltwater tank I happened to see one on my glass and freaked thinking it was one of those bad hitch hikers I've heard about. I managed to catch it in a small plastic cup and brought it into my lfs. I still remember the guy at the counter was like, bruh.

This just happened to me, but I knew that one of the pet shop plant tanks had them, so I realized it must have been introduced through that. At first I thought they might be a planarian and panicked

When you said that copepods convert sun’s energy into food, do any of them open a restaurant under the sea named the Chum bucket?

In my experience I cultivate without knowing and they multiply as 🚀 I used shrimp and I left it in my tank to cycle few weeks later the shrimp discomposed and a little animal start colonized the complete tank , my first fish was a clown fish which have a lots of food to survive now I have a lots variety of fish but I don’t see many of copépodos.. some know what food I can give them?

Hi 😀. I got a jar with water from a river close to me and within a month I found lots of copepods. Can I add them to my freshwater aquarium and if they are safe for shrimp's eggs , new hatched shrimps and guppy fry ? Thank you in advance 🤗

Great episode! I already have one mandarin and can't imagine her depleting my copepod population as they're everywhere. Was thinking about getting the psychedelic mandarin in addition. Wonder if the copepod population would be depleted if I choose to have two mandarins in a 50 gallon? I mean there's a lot!

I breed copepods in buckets with tank water from water changes, no lights, no air pump, no heater, I drop a little piece of Hikari algae wafer in the buckets every 3 days. Been doing this for 2 years and never killed the population even with temperature going as low as 5 degrees celsius and salinity going as high as 1.030

I been in the hobby for like idk 10-15 years and I just learned about copepods a few months back interesting little critters. I've always done a fowlr setup with aggressive fish I'm sure I would have learned about them doing a reef aquarium anyway I'm going to start looking I have never noticed any. Thanks good informational video

Great video man. I've always wondered two things when it comes to copepods. 1: Can i put in too many? (I usually put two bottles of Tigger pods into my 180 with 20 gallon refugium bi-weekly) I was told by other hobbyist, that dead copepods can drive up nitrate levels and 2: Will i lose a good portion of copepods by placing them in a refugium with a protein skimmer? ( It seems to me that would be the case after acclimation.) What do you think about these two questions? Happy Holidays.....

The pods once established should be reproducing enough to maintain themselves. Put something in there for them to hide and reproduce in. I haven’t put any pods in my tank in years but there are hundreds of pods in my filter floss everytime I change it. I let them move into the new floss I use before throwing it away. If they aren’t reproducing there probably isn’t enough in the tank to keep them safe.

Having too many won’t cause issues with your fish and corals but it can cause a depletion of available food. So I’d definitely recommend some phyto feast just to make sure they were eating enough to continue reproducing. If you can put enough coverage like macro algae or filter pads in the refugium they should still be able to reproduce

I noticed you have the two types of mandarines,are they aggressive towards each other ?
@BrockLeonard
@BrockLeonard 9 ай бұрын
Nope, never had any aggression issues. Main thing to remember is keeping enough pods in the tank for both of them.

@@BrockLeonard I just bought one today cuz I traded my aggressive aptasia eatin file fish for store credit. Since it had the skin design like a file fish I decided to give it a shot but there’s not a lot of care videos on the internet about it.

I found the freshwater copepods in my shrimp tank recently after I added sand with triops eggs, that means that maybe copepod eggs were in the sand too, or in the water that my shrimp came in as I added that water from their bag into my aquarium to acclimate them faster.

2mm is more than enough to crearly identify them without a microscope. Feed your fish with live food and your aquarium will be a way more cleaner 😎.

My gsp is not open. What do i do.
@BrockLeonard
@BrockLeonard 9 ай бұрын
First step for me is always checking salinity, and water parameters. Nitrate and ammonia can be a real kicker. After that, I’d check what’s around the gsp, is there another coral stinging? After that, how long are you running your lights?
