I used to have a curved sopranino made by Orsi from Italy. I’m not sure exactly when it was made but judging by the keywork it’s a vintage horn.

Beautiful playing!

I like that you setup the analogy with the Ab clarinet which I feel fulfill the original same function (pierce well above the orchestra). It use to not be rare in military marching bands and traditional italian and austrian music. Eventually you see the displacement of some clarinets for what Sax intended for the saxophone.

Anthony Braxton and Vinny Golia also play the sopranino saxophone.

interesting video, I'd recommend normalising the audio though. boost the volume when you're talking and lower it when playing!

If i had better video editing software, I'd definitely do that.

@@BretNewtonComposer I think you could try "Levelator". I don't use it often since I don't edit often, but if my memory serves correct you can drag a '.wav' file of your video audio into the program and it will 'level' the valleys & peaks in the audio for you. It's just a little bit more work, but it's a fairly easy thing that would improve your videos. www.conversationsnetwork.org/levelator If you don't trust the link or whatever, you can just search up "Levelator" on Google. But hey! Aside from the fact that my volume is at 100%, you make very good & informative videos! Keep up the great work! :)

@@BretNewtonComposer I recommend DaVinci Resolve. Great program and can't beat the price. Bit of a learning curve though.

@@BretNewtonComposer You can use the free Audacity for the audio: if you don't use 'normalize' but the 'compressor': it reduces the dynamic differences. Already the default settings would help a lot.

That alto almost looks identical to my Martin saxophone

idk how much different the nino is from the soprano, but on the soprano in regards to intonation and control, a good mouthpiece with a compatible reed goes a very long way.

Are you seeing that the Sopranino is more popular than the Mezzo-soprano Sax in F? I added a 20s era C Melody (horrible ergonomics compared to a modern horn) to my arsenal last year... looking to add another voice to the collection this winter. Thanks!

The last F Altos of any kind were made about 90 years ago whereas Sopraninos are easy to find today.

You got a nice sound out of that horn, being a clone! What model/chinese brand is it; and mouthpiece did you use? I got a Chinese clone of a Soprano sax not too long ago, and with a change of mouthpiece I got the tone and intonation a lot better, and also with just standard practice.

What's the reason for some sopranos being straight, while others are curved? Is one a more mellow sound or something similar?
@waltavious39842 жыл бұрын
If you play an overtone you can achieve notes higher than your saxophones range limit

The 'Cutoff' for that reed instrument range surely can't be universal for all the instruments?
@austinmoore85813 жыл бұрын
I'd say it can. It does sound odd but since they all use reeds, that's where the sound is coming from along with air, making it vibrate is important. I think reed size would matter too. In words of what how much the instrument itself would affect how high...I'd say just a little.

I could be wrong, apologies if I am. But that's my take on it.

Your conclusion about the C-Soprano-Saxophon in the Video kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5ibZJp9lNFjidk is not correct! You can't compare an old C-Soprano with a new Bb-Soprano! The older instruments are all sounding smoother and nicer! Also an old Bb-Soprano! (I play a Buescher from 1926). And: Strauss does not use the C-Soprano because of its more beautiful sound, but because Adolphe Sax invented the C-Instruments for symphonic Orchestras because its easier to play Oboe, Flute and Violin-Parts.

I don’t know if you are relating the range or parts of the instruments together but Alto Saxophone is more relatable to Alto Clarinet in terms of part and range. Bb Clarinet cannot play in bass clef but Alto Saxophone and Alto Clarinet can play in bass clef. Alto Saxophone and Alto Clarinet also usually play the melody or offbeats 1 octave below Bb Clarinets. Sopranino Saxophone and Eb Clarinet are more relatable to each other because they both play on the same octave and they would most likely play a similar high part. Both Sopranino and Eb were made to play the higher melodies that would be difficult (or impossible) to play on Soprano or Bb.
