I don't think you have to worry so much about drawing from references. Professionals do this. Classic painters used to study each other's works. Many ppl whose hobby is art draw from photos. It's good if you can combine several references, etc., etc., however, there is literally nothing bad in using other pictures to draw something for personal use, especially when you don't claim it's 100% original. All in all, everything is good :) nice journal, btw :)

Thank you! And you’re absolutely right about references, I just need to remind myself that it’s okay every once in a while, there’s nothing wrong with learning 💕

Yah the only ppl who care about “tracing” or “cheating” are the Artists online. My animation professor had us trace from Disney lol
@gamewrit00589 ай бұрын
In addition to using multiple references, I think that most classic and professional artists do studies of other works, photos, or subjects, and a personal character journal is a great place for that.

Ahhh please make this a series! This is so incredibly extra and I love it. It’s looks so amazing and the amount of effort you put in really shows! While I get that legibility is important, more chaos almost seems to fit the vibes? This is so gorgeous

I love watching other people work on their D&D journals when I need some inspo for mine and this is absolutely gorgeous and I would love to see more!! Mine is personally half functional, half ⭐aesthetic⭐ lol. Maybe I'll make a video about mine someday, you've inspired me ☺

Ah! So fun! Ive been meaning to make a journal for a character at some point, it’s so fun seeing what people do with theirs. I already make lil Panthlets for my Ttrpg character sheets, so it’s not a too far off step!

That’s super cute! Definitely making a physical prop for my character whether that’s Eenkashti’s journal or Io’s outfit, it’s made me feel a lot closer to my character. I’ve definitely considered making little flyers to hand out while dressed as Jester Lavorre too, but never got around to it haha

Ahhh I love looking at journals like that so much! It's beautiful! Everytime I see those journals I want to make them myself, it does look like so much fun! Maybe once I get the chance to start playing in a campaign I shall oblige to the urge to stick everything I can find and think of in a notebook haha Also there really is no problem in using references like that. Traditional landscape drawing theoretical isn't anything but using reference, you're still the one drawing it c; Also I love the way you did the writing! I cannot for the life of me change the way my handwriting looks- All the little stickers and textures are so cute and nice to look at. I can feel the serotonin it must give to hold in your hands! Ohhh and the black light looks so cool! I love the idea and I'm always here for "that faintest touch of horror"! Did you apply the invisible ink before or after the other black pen? I could imagine that could smear less that way but if you did it that way I don't know sadly- Very important addition: Thank you for cat paws! Very good T^T 💖 I almost forgot to add: I would love to see more journal videos, I love everything you do that you find joy in! It reminds me a bit these "draw with me" type of videos, if you want to make them into a series maybe something like that can be nice. (I don't quite know what categorizes these videos)

I’m so glad you like the idea of continuing the journal as a series! It’s really helped me get a much better feel for both Eenkashti and the campaign as a whole, since our D&D group has a lot of scheduling conflicts (as D&D does unfortunately). It’s such a good tactile thing too, with the bits of fabric and stickers and different paper textures. My only regret is starting so late in fall on it, I wish I had a bunch of actual pressed flowers to glue into the book, I think it would make a huge difference at least texture wise lol. I just like a good texture. The secret with the handwriting is that if i really squish and stretch out my normal handwriting, it kinda looks like that anyways, but it did definitely take a couple brain cells to focus on maintaining the look haha. 💕

Love the library drawing and the story that came with it. It reminded me my grade school library, all the books were wrapped in gray paper and lacked any organization - perfect entropy. And yet I found there my J. Verne books, love of my childhood ❤

This was a crazy amount of effort in the best way possible, and I love it! I have a few questions (for anyone if they care to answer): How do you find the confidence to talk about your character in such a detailed way? (I get super nervous and shy when even those close to me ask about my ideas.) And, how do you stick to one character idea at a time? (I find I am constantly making new ones even thought they probably won't ever be played.)
@LadySplitChin10 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! I actually do get nervous talking about my character to people I am close to-- to be honest sometimes it's easier talking about them to strangers on the internet haha. Characters can hold so much heart and soul. BUT in general, I would hope that if someone asks me about my characters, they are expressing a genuine interest, so I try to give them the most honest and genuine response. Your ideas are worth sharing, and those that ask care about them! As for ONE character at a time, I may have a few characters that I have grown to love and that get a lot of screentime on my channel and in my art-- but I also have a much more secret stash of characters I keep in the notes for possible future NPCs, art designs, or even D&D characters. There is certainly no shame in having tons of characters at all. Becoming a DM (or working towards building a campaign) has helped me vent all of those character ideas somewhere that isn't just the void and my sketchbook though! You are so kind, I appreciate your comment very much, hopefully my honesty helped :))

0:30 LOL, I'm supposedly working on laundry and getting myself lunch, but your talk of unfinished projects made me think, oh, now is a good, quiet time to pull out my birdhouse painting project. 😂 I shall refrain - at least until after I've eaten.

Thank you! I've definitely seen books of the same/similar brand and paper quality sold with spiral binding, and I'd love to see if I can do some decorating to make a spiral bound notebook look more fantsy-tome-esque, I'm sure it would make just as lovely of a journal! And thank you so much for the subscription, it truly means the world to me!

Thank you so much for the sub, I really appreciate it! :)) I definitely encourage making a character journal, it helped me organize my chicken scratch notes and also it definitely has helped me get a better feel for what my character might be thinking through in her down time when she's not talking to other players. Plus it's just a fun little hobby and a good excuse to buy cool stickers haha

Wow!
